Washington Interscholastic Nutrition Forum (WINForum) Marks 10th Anniversary
A Nutrition Information Source for High School Athletes, Their Parents and Coaches

The Washington Interscholastic Nutrition Forum (WINForum) project and its www.WINForum.org web site were launched in 2003 to provide independent, science-based nutrition information to high school coaches, trainers, student athletes and their parents.
The project filled a need for coaches and trainers to learn how a balanced, healthy diet fuels peak athletic and scholastic performance.  WINForum dietary recommendations conform to USDA’s MyPlate guidelines for a meal plan based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, proteins and low-fat or fat-free dairy foods.  It highlights the importance of eating breakfast, eating to promote bone health and using protein- and carbohydrate-rich foods to recover from exercise.   The WINForum web site links to plenty of recipes that help athletes put its recommendations into food on the table.
Independent WINForum sports dietitians provide in-person clinics for coaches and trainers attending the WIAA’s annual Coaches School; at Coaches School Express sessions at various locations throughout the state; as well as conducting clinics for other high school sports organizations.  WINForum nutrition experts come from UW Medicine and UW Athletics, Central Washington University, Providence Sacred Heart Hospital (Spokane) and Harborview Medical Center (Seattle).
Content and feedback from WINForum clinics are used to refresh the WINForum web site and fuel social media channels.  Clinics are digitally recorded, edited and produced into short instructional videos that are available from YouTube and embedded on the WINForum website.
The WINForum Sports Nutrition Game Plan, WINForum Quick Tip Card, Game Day Meal Order Form and ‘Sports Nutrition 101: Just the Facts’ primer are available for download from the WINForum website; as are downloads of complete WINForum session presentations.  WINForum Mini-Posters are also available to download for use by coaches and educators in the locker room or classroom.
In the past decade, the WINForum has evolved into a respected nutrition resource, attracting hundreds of coaches, trainers and student athletes to WINForum clinics and a steady flow of visitors to the WINForum web site.
Coaches and student athletes can also access its science-based nutrition information through social media by visiting the WINForum on Facebook, the WINForum  blog and WINForum on Twitter.
The WINForum program is supported by UW Medicine, Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, Washington Youth Soccer, Spokane Hoopfest, Washington Oral Health Foundation and the Washington Dairy Products Commission.
