Winter Eligibility Committee Report – Mike Ritch
1. Winter Hearings – 29
cases that involved 17 hearings and one special hearing.
2. Eight (of 11) denials were appealed
to WIAA; 5 were granted by WIAA.. Mike
Colbrese goes over the results with Mike Ritch when a case is overturned. The primary reasons for overturning a case
is additional information that families don’t share with the committee at the
time of the hearing, but do present at the WIAA level.
3. Hearings included 10 seasons
limitations cases; 9 transfer or residence cases and six exchange students.
4. Mike expressed appreciation for all
those who willingly serve on the Eligibility Committees. He is grateful for their service and proud
of their expertise and caring nature on our committees.
B.
WIAA – Cindy Adsit
1. Private school coaches’ regulations…Coaches
may work with high school aged students who are not members of their team
during the “out-of-season” time period.
Like all state coaches, they may not coach their own athletes. Private school coaches may not work with 7-8th
grade students out of season as those are “potential” squad members.
2. Sportsmanship – Cindy talked about
the importance of sportsmanship and the national problems at all levels. WIAA during post season will provide a
handout that keys in on sportsmanship expectations of behavior for all athletes
and student from participating schools.
3. Mark Cullen asked about the state
A/B track site and construction that obstructs the view of one of the
handoffs. Mike will take a look when he
goes over to Spokane.

Committee Report – Metro/Kingco. Gill
reported that the Metro/Kingco AD’s met today to work on communication and
relationships. The group decided that
the spring sport AD’s from each league will get together to work out some
details for their sports. The leagues
will discuss proposals for playoffs between the leagues in all sports, but in
particularly in football, soccer, and baseball. The two leagues will meet again in May. Art Kuehn is the new AD at Interlake. Issaquah AD position is still open at this time.

Tri-District B Meeting Report – Bob Dowding. Bob
reported that the tri-district basketball tournament will be at Chief Leschi
this year. They are excited about
hosting the tournament.
G.
Dance/Drill District Tournament. We are
looking for a volunteer to host the multi-classification tournament. The tourney is set for Saturday, Feb.
26. Craig Olson requested that Mercer
Island be allowed to go to another district to qualify. The date is during Winter break and they
will not have students available. The
question that arises then is that other schools may make the same request. We would have to respond to those requests
as well. The motion that Mercer Island
be allowed to participate in another district tournament: M/S/F.
H. Fall District Tournament/Play-Off Financial Report. Marilyn reported on fall district tournaments. Most are complete; we are still waiting for results from several fall tourneys in other districts. At the 3A level, Boys golf and cross country showed losses as they have no income. Football is incomplete, but will show a profit in the $16K-$17K Range. Girls soccer, girls swimming, and volleyball all showed small profits in the fall. At the A/B level, soccer is in the black. Volleyball is not reported yet because we have not yet received the official’s bills. B football provided some income while B volleyball lost a small amount of money.
