Position: Athletic Director and Women's Basketball Coach

About the Position:
Northwest Yeshiva High School, a small Jewish Private School on Mercer Island, seeks an Athletic Director (AD) to begin July 1, 2017. The NYHS Athletic Director shall oversee all NYHS athletic programs, including supervision of all coaches, in developing and maintaining a viable athletics program. In addition to the AD responsibilities, the ideal candidate would be able to serve as the coach of the women’s basketball team.

NYHS currently offers the following team sports: Coed Cross Country, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Coed Golf. Over 50% of our student’s participate in team sports. In addition to team sports, NYHS is piloting an independent study PE program where students participate in physical activities off-campus to earn credit.

NYHS is a member of the WIAA.

An ideal Candidate will have the following skills:
• Ability to work and cooperate with other NYHS staff, parents and students.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Possess administrative skills and convey leadership qualities.
• Self-motivated and well organized.
• Knowledge of:
o Operational characteristics, services and activities of a school district athletics and activities program.
o Methods and techniques of athletic program supervision.
o Athletic equipment manufacturers, equipment safety considerations and quality of goods.

• Planning and Scheduling
o Plan NYHS programs for the entire school year in relation to WIAA regulations and the NYHS annual school calendar.
o Approve NYHS coach’s scheduling of athletic events.
o Participate with other WIAA league athletic directors in planning, coordinating and implementing league games, events and activities.
• Staffing and Supervision
o In collaboration with the NYHS Assistant Head of School, makes recommendations for the hiring of NYHS head coaches.
o Assist NYHS head coaches in the selection of assistant coaches and volunteers.
o Provide orientation, direction and training of NYHS coaches.
o Help all coaches succeed in their programs.
o Arrange all NYHS game gate attendants – manage and deposit gate money with NYHS Business Manager.
• Administration
o In collaboration with NYHS coaches from each sport – provide the NYHS Assistant Head of School a yearly program budget.
o Compile, verify and send all WIAA eligibility reports including all hardship requests for eligibility to WIAA.
o Remain current on all rule and eligibility changes within the WIAA organization and keeping all NYHS coaches informed.
o Maintain file of NYHS student athlete records such as physical examination forms, rosters, eligibility forms, accomplishments and awards.
o Plan and provide for all officials for NYHS athletic events.
o Management of all NYHS athletic gear, schedule practices and competition facilities and location, maintain athletic equipment and recommend purchase and replacements.
o Coordinate and assist visiting teams and arrange for needed services.
• Communications
o Serve as the spokesperson and promoter of all NYHS athletic programs.
o Work closely with the administrative assistant in the NYHS main office – ensuring all NYHS related athletic events are on the master school calendar.
