Assistant Novice Rowing Coach

Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for an assistant novice rowing coach for its Upper School rowing program for the spring 2017 season. The spring season has begun, so this appointment will be immediate. The season concludes on Monday, May 22. Practices are Monday through Friday, 3:15-6:15 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00-11:00 a.m.

The assistant novice coach, reporting to the rowing program heads, will join an athletics program that includes 23 varsity teams, most of which have both sub-varsity and middle-school counterparts. The crew program generally includes four squads (girls varsity, boys varsity, girls novice, boys novice) at the Upper School, as well as a coed learn-to-row program at the Middle School. The coach is directly responsible for coaching various boats in the assigned programs as well as other duties within the program as assigned by the crew program heads. Specific responsibilities include:
• Compliance with all Lakeside School and USRowing policies and procedures;
• Supervision and instruction of rowing student-athletes during all team activities;
• Maintenance and inventory of team equipment and apparel;
• Attendance at required crew program and interscholastic athletics program meetings;
• Support of multi-sport participation for student-athletes;
• Promotion of balanced achievement in all areas of school life for student-athletes; and
• Potentially, driving student-athletes from the campus to the boathouse each day using a school-owned vehicle.

Requirements and Qualifications
Successful candidates must be 19 years of age and possess a valid Washington State driver’s license. They must also be available for all practices and competitions from 3:00 p.m. daily during their coaching season with availability on weekends as required. Experience coaching crew at the club, high school or college level is strongly preferred, but not required. Additionally, candidates must satisfactorily complete a nationwide criminal background check, a Washington State Patrol background check and must possess or obtain prior to the start of their season current First Aid, CPR, and boater certification.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a stipend schedule that compares favorably with those of peer schools and clubs both locally and nationwide. Coaching stipends are paid in monthly installments during the primary competition season. Other benefits include Lakeside Athletics apparel and access to funds for professional development.
