Position: Varsity Boys Basketball Assistant Coach

Description Varsity Boys Basketball Assistant Coach

The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to roughly 500 students in grades 6 through 12, including 80 international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory. a) Have a strong technical and strategic understanding of the game
b) Know how to teach skills, constructively motivate players, and how to build a tight-knit, supportive, and competitively fearless team culture
c) Relate well with players and build rapport
d) Model excellent character and live the high expectations they have for athletes

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with and assist the Varsity Head Coach in planning, organizing, coaching, and developing the program and players.
Demonstrate the ability to teach skills and strategies associated with the game at this level.
Model and effectively inspire essential team concepts of dedication, responsibility, teamwork, and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
Generate enthusiasm and pride among students in the program.
Engage with student-athletes, colleagues, parents, opponents, referees, etc. with respect and positivity.
Philosophical alignment with striving to win while promoting the bigger picture of character, commitment, and team supportiveness.
Proactively attend clinics and seek out materials to develop professional coaching expertise and effectiveness.
Work as a collaborative member of the program and Northwest School community.
Know and adhere to Northwest School, Emerald City League, and WIAA policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
Passion, expertise, and experience coaching basketball, preferably at the high school level or above.
First Aid, CPR and head injury training is current.
Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
Washington State Background check is clear.

Compensation/Details: Competitive coaching stipend, based on experience.
This is a stipend only position. Season starts November 13th and ends in late February or early March.

Availability: Monday-Saturday
