Position: Track & Field Throws Coach
Location The Northwest School (Seattle)
Description Track & Field Assistant Coach – Throws

The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to roughly 500 students in grades 6-12, including 80 international students, many of whom live in our campus dormitory. a) Have a strong technical and strategic understanding of their sport
b) Know how to teach skills, constructively motivate athletes, and how to build a tight-knit, supportive, and competitively fearless team culture
c) Relate well and build rapport with athletes
d) Model excellent character and live the high expectations they have for athletes

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the head coach in all aspects of coaching the team and program.
Teach fundamentals, techniques, and skills, utilizing positive and developmentally-appropriate methods.
Prioritize the health and safety of the athletes.
Generate enthusiasm, commitment, and teamwork among students for the program.
Model respectful interaction and sportsmanship with athletes, opponents, colleagues, and parents, and emphasize sportsmanship and leadership with athletes.
Philosophical alignment with striving to win while promoting the bigger picture of character, commitment, and team supportiveness.
Attend clinics and conferences to maintain coaching standards and develop coaching expertise.
Work cooperatively with NWS colleagues.
Understand and adhere to sport rules and regulations.
Be an energetic self-starter.

Minimum Qualifications:
Expertise and experience coaching the sport at the high school or collegiate level.
Current training in First Aid, CPR, concussion management, and sudden cardiac arrest.
Clear Washington State Background check.

Compensation/Details: Competitive coaching stipend, based on experience.
This is a stipend only position. Season officially starts February 26th and ends May 26th; there will be several coaches’ meetings prior to the season as well.

Availability: Monday-Saturday.
