Position: Director of Athletics
Location Eastside Preparatory School
Description Position Summary:
The Director of Athletics is responsible for all aspects of the 5 – 12 athletic program including strategic planning, budgeting, personnel management, and campus and community relations. S/he is responsible for developing and maintaining a program that reflects the mission and culture of Eastside Prep, supports athletic success, demands a high level of integrity from student athletes and from colleagues, and fosters the academic achievement of student athletes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Leads by example, to develop, organize, supervise and evaluate the entire program of intramural and
interscholastic athletics for all students, 5 – 12,
Ensures that all coaches are performing their duties at the very highest level of professionalism
Ensures that all genders have equal opportunities to engage in athletic events
Ensures that all coaching positions are filled with coaches who are knowledgeable and experienced in their sport, show personal interest and care about the growth of each athlete, and are properly trained in all organizational and philosophical aspects of the athletic program
Provides feedback on the performance of all coaches, including paths toward improvement and strengths observed
Responsible for sourcing and overseeing the athletic trainer
Ensures the proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment athletic facilities, fields and courts, working in coordination with the Facilities Manager
Organizes (and submits to the Director of Institutional Advancement) regular information on the various programs for public recognition of athletic achievements
Prepares, submits and administers a budget each year to fund the athletic programs of the school, including the Physical Education program
Provides the scheduling of all athletic contests, arranges for athletic transportation and hires game officials
Ensures that all athletic practices and games are scheduled without conflicts with other teams
Represents the school at various local, state, regional and/or national athletic associations
Maintains records of team and individual accomplishments and submits copies of these records to the
Head of School’s office for historical purposes
Maintains and revises the coaches’ manual each year
Provides orientation for all coaches prior to their interaction with EPS students
Organizes and coordinates off-campus athletic programs
Oversees the distribution, collection, cleaning, repair and storage of all athletic uniforms and equipment
Ensures the health and safety of all students in the athletic program
Willing to communicate with parents, Student Government, and the student body regarding important athletic information (practice, games, special events, etc.)
Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge in interscholastic sports and athletics rules/regulations
Demonstrated ability and willingness to collaborate with diverse constituencies
Willingness to be highly visible at sporting events and practices
High level of integrity and sportsmanship
Proven experience overseeing and developing a coaching staff
Willing to learn the specific guidelines outlined by the Emerald City League regarding each sport that EPS is involved in
Passionate about sports and the life experiences offered by athletics
Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing

Credentials and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree; masters in athletic administration or related field preferred;
Minimum of five years of progressive experience in athletics administration and/or coaching; preferably in independent schools
Equivalent combination of education and experience
