Position: Head Athletic Trainer
Location Seattle, WA
Description Lakeside School, an independent coeducational day school located in North Seattle, is currently recruiting for a head athletic trainer to join the athletics team. With eight full-time athletics staff members and around 100 coaches, Lakeside’s interscholastic athletics program includes 23 varsity teams, most of which have both sub-varsity and middle-school counterparts.

At its core, Lakeside Athletics focuses on teaching students to become the best version of themselves through competition, hard work, team work, and attention to caring for their physical and emotional health. One of the main roles of the head athletic trainer is to create a positive, healthy and safe environment for all student-athletes to thrive. The head athletic trainer will build positive relationships with coaches, athletics staff, student-athletes, parents/guardians, and peer schools to ensure that the athletics office is viewed as a resource and a safe place.

This is a full-time, extended school year, non-exempt position. The head athletic trainer will report to the director of athletics.


-Handle emergency management of student-athlete injuries.

-Respond to First Aid/CPR emergencies while on campus.

-Supervise and work in the training room during peak hours, treating injuries and developing preventative programs to minimize sports-related injuries and issues.

-Create and manage the coverage calendar for athletics events for head and assistant ATCs.

-Manage supplies and monitor all training room equipment, including med kits and ice packs for school groups.

-Maintain a system of record keeping for each student-athlete who is treated.

-Hold open office hours to evaluate new injuries and to provide extensive rehabilitation.

-Initiate and sustain communications between injured student-athlete’s family, teachers, and administrators.

-Maintain a broad referral base of health care practitioners for injured student-athletes and their families.

-Educate coaches about health care topics and the role of ATCs in supporting teams.

-Read all medical information on student-athletes and communicate vital information to coaches.

-Serve as a member of the program heads group to develop and implement policies and procedures to improve Lakeside Athletics.

-Serve as a member of the Student Support Team, a group of administrators that meets regularly to discuss students who have special circumstances that require additional support (“Return to Learn” and “Return to Play” protocols, for instance).

Other duties as assigned by the director of athletics.

Requirements and Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree.

-Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association and maintain this certification through regular attainment of CEUs.

-Licensed as an athletic trainer through the state of Washington.

-Display professionalism, enthusiasm, creativity, and flexibility.

-Work effectively with all constituents at Lakeside: students, faculty, staff, administrators, coaches, parents and guardians.

-Strong written and verbal communication skills.

-Able to assist with or transfer athletes of various heights/weights.

-Able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility skills, and be able to walk long distances.

-At least five years of experience in independent schools, high school athletics, or collegiate athletics.

-Possess a valid Washington State driver’s license with a clean driving record.

-Satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.
