The
2003-04 school year is Kevin’s fourth year serving as one of the
Assistant Executive Directors of the WIAA. Griffin has been the
driving force behind a number of recently developed student and school
focused programs/events, as well as innovative marketing and development
ventures. Griffin
has spearheaded the Association’s efforts by creating and managing the
Emerald City Kickoff Classic, Scholastic Cup, WIAA Hall of Fame and Hall
of Champions, WIAA/Seattle Times State Athlete of the Week, Miniature
State Championship Trophy program and the new WIAA sports specific
branding and identity marks and logos. Aside
from the marketing and development responsibilities, Griffin serves as the
Association’s chief liaison for the sports of cross country, gymnastics,
swimming and diving, and track and field. He also oversees the
organization’s special events, state championship branding/merchandising
and licensing program, state championship souvenir programs, radio and
television broadcasting contracts and media relations. He currently serves
on the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS)
Football Rules and Hall of Fame Committees. Griffin
was named one of the WIAA’s assistant executive directors on July 1,
2000. At the time he was the youngest assistant executive
director/commissioner at any of the 51 state association offices. Prior to
working with the WIAA, Griffin worked in marketing and sales on the
Federal Services account at US West and later as the Washington State
marketing director for an Internet division of Host Communications Inc.
While in college Griffin working as an intern with The Ohio State ICA
department and he has served as an assistant Track & Field Coach at
Juanita High School and an Assistant football coach at Eastside Catholic
in Bellevue. Griffin
received a degree in journalism (public relations) from The Ohio State
University in 1998. While at Ohio State, Griffin displayed leadership
skills in the classroom, in the Columbus community and as a member of the
football team where he served as the special teams captain his junior and
senior seasons. Griffin received the Ike Kelley award in 1996 as the
outstanding special teams player for the Rose Bowl Champion Buckeyes and
in 1997 he was selected to represent The Ohio State University as a
student delegate at the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA)
first annual state leadership conference. The following year in
1998, Griffin received the Alex Shumate Award for his work with the
“Majority of One” program and outstanding student leadership on the
OSU campus. A graduate of Juanita High School in Kirkland, Kevin and his wife, Farrah, a graduate of Newport High School, are both active in the community. Farrah, a five-time state gymnastics champion (1992-95) and former Ohio State gymnast, coaches club gymnastics at Gymnastics East in Bellevue while Kevin coaches USA Youth Track & Field for Eastside Track Club.
