Media Advisory Committee Meeting Summary |  Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011

Media Members Present: 
Sandy Ringer (Seattle Times), Bob Akamian(PlayOn! Sports), Paul Beattie (Eli Sports)
MediaMembers Present via Teleconference:  StevenSmith (Grant County Journal), Nathan Joyce (Kitsap Sun) WIAA Staff Present:  ConorLaffey, Cindy Adsit, John Miller   

Introductions: 
Conor gave a briefoverall of the Fall State Championships and acknowledged attendance hasincreased for the fall events by roughly 2,000 spectators.  He also Commented on the new online portal,
www.WIAANetwork.com and addressed the newSocial Media efforts by the Association.
Media Go Around:
Members of the committee discussed current issues going on in their specific areas.

Classifications:
John Miller spoke to thegroup and talked about classification numbers. He explained the numbers were sent out to the member schools and wouldnot be finalized until the WIAA Executive Board approved them in January.  The media will receive those breakdowns oncethey are approved.

Fall State Championships:
The group talked aboutmedia policy and procedures at state football. Doug Pacey of the Tacoma News Tribune raised concern about not beingallowed onto the field until the game is completed.  He has requested the WIAA look into allowingprint media onto the field in the remaining minutes of the game.

Cindy Adsit touched on StateVolleyball and reviewed the 2011 State Championships.  The highlights included better attendance andatmosphere at Evergreen State College and Saint Martin’s.  Issues included limited seating at each ofthe three facility, scheduling and court structure at the SunDome.

Winter State Championships:
Conor addressed thegroup to alert them of changes occurring at State Wrestling.  Passwords will be distributed to SportsEditors of every media outlet to register their respective staffs for allfuture State Championships.  In addition,high visibility vests will be passed out to photographers to help tournamentmanagers view the approved media photographers. Also, tables will be set-up for the media to work at during the final’smatches.  No concerns for the remainingState Championships were raised by the committee.

Future Meetings:
The next meeting isscheduled for March 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the WIAA office.
