EXAMPLE PROJEKT

Nearly 70 percent of persons with intellectual disabilities have the capacity to function at much higher levels than society’s perceptions allow or encourage.
An intellectual disability is not a disease.  Most children with an intellectual disability can learn to do many things – it just takes them more time and effort than other children
An estimated 6.3 million Americans have an intellectual or developmental disability – roughly 1.5% to 2.5% of the total general population
According to the CDC, 1 in 6 U.S. children are diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disability
1 in 10 children who need special education have some form of intellectual disability – nearly 14,000 students in Washington State
Many people with intellectual disabilities need long-term services or care.  The average cost for one person is estimated to be more than  $1 million - over and above those experienced by an person who does not have a disability).
