LEAP Committee Helps Raise Over $1,800 for InvestED at the 2014 Gridiron Classic

For the fifth straight year, the WIAA's LEAP Committee (student leadership group) organized the "Coins for a Cause" fundraiser at the Gridrion Classic.  This year's effort raised over $1,800 for InvestED, a statewide nonprofit organization that partners with over 650 schools to provide immediate help to individual students in need with things like athletic fees, choir robes, eyeglasses, or graduation expenses.

During halftime of all six championship football games December 5-6, 2014, LEAP representatives recruited student participants from each school to collect coins among their respective fan sections to benefit InvestED. Fans from Neah Bay, Liberty Christian, Okanogan, Napavine, Cascade Christian, Colville, Lynden, Sedro-Woolley, Bellevue, Eastside Catholic, Chiawana and Bothell all contributed to the cause.  The Cascade Christian fans raised the most money of any other school with a total of $291.85.

Coins for a Cause was started in 2009 as a way to raise money for local non-profit organizations at WIAA State Championships.
Coins for a Cause has become an annual feature of the Gridiron Classic (State Football) and the Hardwood Classic (State Basketball).  As of the fall of 2014, Coins for a Cause has raised over $31,000 for organizations such as InvestED, Special Olympics Washington and Northwest Harvest.
