Cindy has been involved with officiating for over 35 years. As the daughter of a sports official, she learned to love sports and officiating at an early age.
In 1980, Cindy began officiating junior high, high school, and college volleyball in Southwest Washington. Two years later, she became a member of the WOA Representative Assembly from the SW Boards. The following year, she became the assigning secretary.
Since 1985 Cindy has been the WOA representative for District 2 and is the former WOA Board President (2007-11). Cindy has been a leader and mentor for hundreds of sports officials. She has been involved with the Greater Seattle Volleyball Officials (GSVO) for 30 years. She received the Washington State Official of the Year Award (1999), the WOA Meritorious Service Award (2004), and the GSVO 25-year Service Award in (2010). In 2013 she was inducted into the WOA Hall of Fame and the R.A. Long High School Hall of Fame as a member of the 1971 Lumberjill Swim Team that went undefeated.
She has officiated multiple classifications of State Volleyball Tournaments. Since 1995, she has been the state clinician for volleyball and the official’s coordinator for multi-classification State Volleyball tournaments. She has served on the GSVO Board in every capacity, including President for multiple terms, for a total of 12 years.
Cindy’s father was a lifetime official, and a huge influence on Cindy’s decision to become a referee herself. In 2007, she trained as a football official in order to work with her father on the field. With the GSVO, she has had opportunities to officiate with both of her daughters and continue the family legacy in the officiating world.
