A. Teresa Fisher and Andy Barnes are new to the staff this fall. Thanks to the WIAA board for their support in adding a position and filling Terry Cavender’s position. Simon Hirsch replaced Andy in the production department.
B. Rep Assembly Action: The executive board is being increased in size. Four additional (total of 13) members were selected this fall – Chris Bigelow (Northshore), Wendy Malich (Franklin Pierce), George Juarez (Othello), Michelle Webb (Ephrata). Mike and the board were encouraged by the number of applicants who applied for the position.
C. The Rep assembly also put in an Aug. 1 “no contact” date for the summer contact – begins next fall.
D. Football participation numbers were increased.
E. Football and Soccer draw criteria were approved again. There is a proposal for soccer to have four regional sites for the first two rounds of the state tourney. Those games would be held on a Fri/Sat similarly to the state tourney. It may or may not pass, but the board needs input for the executive board.
F. Regional wrestling alignments are being discussed.
G. Mike reviewed the appeal hearings held this summer at the July board meeting.
H. The state legislature changed the role of the state board of Education. The WIAA was removed from the responsibility to report to the State Board of Ed. As a result, a new level of appeal board was added to the WIAA . The District Directors are now an appeals body in matters dealing with Classification issues prior to the WIAA Board. Other issues such as eligibility rules may also be appealed through this body.
I. Mike will ask the board to put all our rules on a 3 year review schedule. This year they will look at the scholastic and transfer rules.
J. On-line Clinics are now available for coaches. Head HS coaches are required to take the test. Assistants may take the test. Those who take the test will be granted Clock Hours for their effort.
K. Mike also wanted to emphasize roles. Craig is now the longest serving board member. It is vital that he hear from our district so that he has the most accurate and critical information from our district. Jan represents us to the Interscholastic Activities Association from the state directors group; her voice is important in sharing information and helping the school directors understand what we are doing and so that we have a better understanding of the school directors’ roles. The league representatives are critical in not only representing their league, but in communicating effectively in both directions to enhance our ability to work with each other. Rep Assembly members keep us moving forward through making necessary changes in our constitution.
L. Mike
responded to questions from the District Board.
A.
Kingco again requested up to $1000 for the 2nd
Annual Coaches School in October at Woodinville HS. M/S/P. Kingco also
requested that schools advertise and promote this event in their leagues and
schools.
A. There was a request from the Golf coaches to review the Amateur rules for golf. The board will review it for all sports.
B. Craig asked for input for the soccer bracket change to a Fri/Sat. regional format. Issues brought up included the finances of it, the home site issues, the attendance issues, and the physical concerns of playing back-to-back contests. The general feeling of the of the board with the information we have now is to not make this change.

distribute these funds.
F.

3
week window will determine the allocations.
For now, we need to wait till they are approved by the WIAA Board. The 1A/B leagues will have to meet with our
compatriots from Dist. 1, 3 to decide on district/bi-district/tri-district
formats.
G.
Fall District Tournament Dates, Sites & Managers.
H.
2006-2007 Sea-King Dist. 2 Committees.
Marilyn
asked for a committee to meet with her to review the compensation for workers
at our tourneys. Presently the
Metro/Kingco 3A have a joint meeting to go over issues that concern both
leagues. Football, soccer, and baseball
combinations were discussed as well as the other district level tournaments. It is a great opportunity to get to know
each other better.
I.
2006-2007 Sea-King Dist. 2 Annual Goals. Suggestions
for goals include: Sam asked
that we continue to monitor the 1A Boys Soccer changes. John raised the issue of the high-profile
recruiting and how the issues get addressed.
How do we talk to each other about violations and/or recruiting? The Metro League is going to have a
discussion about how students get into and eligible at each of the public and
private schools. Ken made a suggestion
to work with the press to understand the significant, positive things going on
in athletics today rather than focusing on the negative. Several members asked the WIAA to help by
laying out what is appropriate and what is inappropriate in responding to
questions from parents and athletes requesting a change of schools.
J. Review Sea-King District Documents.
