RENTON, Wash. – The WIAA Kickoff Classic and Volleyball Invitational Presented by Farmers Insurance feature new names, locations and logos for 2012.
Due to the University of Washington Football team playing their home games at CenturyLink Field while Husky Stadium is being renovated, the Kickoff Classic, formerly the Emerald City Kickoff Classic (ECKC), will move to Roos Field on the campus of Eastern Washington, Saturday, Sept. 1.
Also moving to eastern Washington, the Volleyball Invitational, formerly Emerald City Volleyball Invitational (ECKC), will showcase a new format at Cheney High School with junior varsity and c-squad teams participating alongside their varsity teams. The Volleyball Invitational will be played at the CHS Main Gymnasium and Hatch Gymnasium, Friday, Aug. 31.
“The Association has enjoyed giving students-athletes the opportunity to play in some great facilities,” Executive Director Mike Colbrese said. “The opportunity to showcase our schools in Eastern Washington and to play on the 'Inferno' and at Cheney High School is very exciting for everyone involved.“
In keeping with the theme, the Kickoff Classic and the Volleyball Invitational Logos have been redesigned in honor of Roos Field’s trademarked Inferno red turf.
Also new to 2012, each of the four football games will be shown live on the WIAA Network courtesy of the WIAA, PlayOn! Sports and SWX. At halftime of each of the football games, a highlight package of the Volleyball Invitational will be shown.
Tickets for the Kickoff Classic can be purchased through participating schools or at the gate the day of the event. Adults are $15 each, students (with valid ASB card) and seniors (62 and over) are $10 each, and children under the age of five are free. Admission into the Volleyball Invitational is free.
Doors open at 9 a.m. and tickets are good for the entire day
