20.0.0      ATHLETIC AWARDS

PHILOSOPHY OF ATHLETIC AWARDS: The Association is committed to the concept that the amateur athlete is one who engages in athletics for the physical, mental, social and educational benefits derived therefrom and not for financial or quantitative rewards.  AFFIRMATION OF GOALS # 1 AND 9 OF THE ASSOCIATION.  THEREFORE:

20.1.0        AWARDS THAT ARE PERMITTED - Awards to athletic teams or to individual members of such teams under the jurisdiction of the Association may be made by a member school in the form of letters, insignias, certificates, medals, and/or trophies as are customarily emblematic of athletic competition and whose intrinsic values are insignificant.

                   20.1.1                 Awards from Outside - Awards of any type presented by persons or organizations outside the school system to a school or its student team members in consideration of athletic achievement may not be accepted until approved by the WIAA Executive Board.

                   20.1.2                 Once the WIAA Executive Board approves an award, no future approval is necessary unless conditions of the award are changed.

                   20.1.3                 All League/District/State - High school team members and coaches may participate in the selection of all-league/district/state teams after the date of the last league game.  Newspapers may use such lists in their selection of "all-star" and "all-State" teams.
