Interscholastic athletics shall supplement the secondary curricular program and provide students with educational experiences and learning outcomes that contribute toward the development of attributes of good citizenship. This can be accomplished only when emphasis is placed upon teaching "through school athletics". Interscholastic athletics can be justified only when this is the primary philosophy and purpose.
Being one of the most recongnizable representatives of a school, Dance-Drill Team members are in a position of influence; therefore high standards of conduct are essential. Positive personal behavior and team cohesiveness demonstrate these standards. Appropriate behavior will help earn the respect of the student body which is the core of developing effective school spirit and student involvement.
THE PURPOSE OF
DANCE-DRILL TEAMS INCLUDES:
A. Dance-Drill teams perform and compete as
athletes. Members must condition,
practice and warm up the same as other athletes in preparation for a
performance.
B. Dance-Drill Team competition/conferences
requires the development of physical skills, performed in a choreographed
routine. The purpose of this activity
is to provide a basis for competition in which the teams performance is
judged. Dance-Drill Team competition is
approved as a part of the school activities, and a part of the total
educational program. Dance-Drill Team
competition should serve to develop leadership, confidence and skill.
C. Dance-Drill Teams serve as a support group
for the interscholastic athletic program within the school. Each team strives to boost school spirit,
promote good sportsmanship and help student participants achieve the most
worhwhile educational objectives of the
interscholastic program.
D. Dance-Drill Teams role will be one of
entertainment. Dance-Drill Team
activities should be focused on:
creating a cooperative spirit among members and other groups within the
schools, contributing to school spirit through performances and promoting good
sportsmanship.
