The following was adopted by the Washington State Coaches Association in 1985.

                    The WSCA Executive Board goes on record as encouraging student-athletes to participate in the total school program and to experience as many activities as the school makes available.  Specifically, the three sport WIAA calendar provides such an opportunity, whereby each season has a specific length for which an athlete can participate.  The WSCA discourages coaches from elongating any season by encouraging an athlete to continue to work and compete in that specific sport rather than participate in another sport season.  Should an athlete desire to excel in one specific sport by participating outside of the season, regimented practice or competition should not come from the specific sport coach.
