COINS FOR A CAUSE

The L.E.A.P. Committee is committed to promoting and supporting the goals and core values of the WIAA through student leadership.  The Coins for a Cause program was established in 2009 by the L.E.A.P. Committee and is designed to help raise funds for local non-profit organizations.

The L.E.A.P. Committee is responsible for organizing activities at the State Championship events that create awareness of the appropriate non-profit organization that is being benefitted and the L.E.A.P. Committee.

At the 2009 3A State Basketball Championships, the L.E.A.P. Committee organized a coin collection during the half time of each game where the schools competed to see who could raise the most money.  Fans donated pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and dollar bills.  After half time, the L.E.A.P. Committee members counted the donations and determined which school collected the most coins.  An announcement was made during the second half of every game informing the audience of how much each school donated and thanking them for their donations.  They were able to help raise over $1,000 for the Special Olympics Washington.

The Coins for a Cause program continued at the 2009 Gridiron Classic.  The L.E.A.P. Committee was able to help raise over $3,000 for the Special Olympics of Washington.
