Dele Gunnerson began his extensive career as an educator, coach and interscholastic impactor in 1963 at Goodman Middle School in the Peninsula School District.
From Goodman, Gunnerson moved onto teaching and coaching at Peninsula High School, where he eventually stepped into the role of Assistant Principal and Director of Extended Education. Gunnerson also served as Principal for the Treatment Center School, an education program through the Washington State Prison for Women.
In the same year, Gunnerson transitioned into the role of Principal at Peninsula High School. Gunnerson served in this position for close to 20 years (1974-1992). During this time, Gunnerson was involved in multiple organizations and groups surrounding education advocacy and interscholastic activities. He sat as President of the Seamount League (1979-80), President of the Board, West Central District, WIAA (1984-85), President of the Pierce County League (1985-86), Member of the WIAA Representative Assembly (1981-92), Chairman of Committees to Develop Education Specifications for Building Programs at Peninsula High School (1979-91), as well as numerous years served as a Consultant to different school districts around the state (2003-2009).
Most recently, Gunnerson has served as Assistant Executive Director for the WIAA (1997-2000) and continues to serve as the Eligibility Hearing Officer for the WIAA, a role in which he stepped into in 2006.
