Bob Regan has been the defining voice of boys’ and girls’ high school swimming in the state of Washington. He began announcing at the state championships in 1947 and has served as the Meet Manager since 1977, becoming an enduring presence at the WIAA State Championships.
Regan’s leadership and vision helped drive the development of the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, built for the 1990 Goodwill Games. Since then, the center has hosted the WIAA State Championships and is widely regarded as one of the premier swimming and diving facilities in the United States.
Since 1967, Regan has published The Wash and The Washette, newsletters sponsored by the Washington Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association (WISCA). These publications have provided an invaluable resource to coaches across the state, serving as both a reference and a connection point for high school swimming programs.
In recognition of his decades of commitment, Regan received the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Achievement Award in 1991 and was the inaugural recipient of the Special Commendation Award from the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association of America in 2008. His dedication to high school swimming has left an indelible mark on the sport in Washington.
