Mukilteo SD
Brian Steves has distinguished himself as a premier music educator in the Mukilteo School District for over two decades. Beginning his career at Olympic View Junior High, Steves quickly made his mark as an inspiring band and choir instructor. In 1993, he became the inaugural band teacher at Kamiak High School, where his leadership has transformed the school’s music programs into award-winning ensembles.
Under Steves’ direction, the 200-member Kamiak High Show Band has performed at high-profile events around the world, including the 1997 presidential inaugural parade for Bill Clinton in Washington, D.C., the 2000 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland, and, in 2003, becoming the first Washington band to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. In addition to band, Steves serves as Director of Orchestras at Kamiak, guiding 140 string students and 70 wind and percussion students to consistent success at state and regional competitions, including the Northwest Orchestra Festival.
Beyond his classroom and rehearsal hall achievements, Steves has served as a clinician, festival adjudicator, and manager at state conferences. He has held leadership roles in the Snohomish-King Music Educators Association (SKMEA) as vice president, president, and past president, and in 2008 was recognized as the SKMEA Music Educator of the Year. He also served as president of the Washington Music Educators Association for the Snohomish-King County Region from 1996 to 2000.
Brian Steves’ dedication to excellence, innovation, and student success has made a lasting impact on the musical and educational community, earning him a well-deserved place among Washington’s finest music educators.
