Moses Lake HS Football, Wrestling

Dan Strode made his mark early at Moses Lake High School, lettering three years in both football and wrestling. As a football team captain, he earned All-Conference honors in 1968, but it was on the wrestling mat that Strode truly excelled. Over three seasons, he suffered just a single loss—to a senior from Oregon during his sophomore year—and in 1968, he became the first wrestler in Washington state history to claim three state championships.

Following high school, Strode continued his dual-sport success at Grays Harbor Community College, where he earned two varsity letters in football and wrestling. In 1969 and 1970, he went undefeated and captured the Community College State Wrestling Championship both years, earning a full scholarship to Oklahoma State University.

Strode’s extraordinary high school wrestling career, marked by 65 wins, a single loss, and three state championships, was formally recognized in 2003 with his induction into the Moses Lake High School Hall of Fame. His legacy stands as a testament to dedication, skill, and the lasting impact of a true pioneer in Washington wrestling.
