Position: Director of Athletics & Activities
Location South Kitsap High School
Description Summary: The DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES will provide leadership and support over the district athletic and activities programs. This position will work closely with District Leadership to ensure alignment of athletic programs and compliance with all state and federal mandates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide leadership and guidance for the athletics program;
Demonstrate a collaborative leadership style;
Be an effective leader and strong advocate for the District’s goals and vision;
Operate with genuine concern for the welfare of all students, staff, parents, and the community;
Participate in the selection, supervision, and evaluation of all coaching staff;
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with coaches, advisors, and those staff responsible for implementing or supervising student athletic programs;
Be willing to work a flexible and extended schedule to provide for supervision of after school and weekend athletic programs;
Subscribe to a shared decision-making model;
Commit to building partnerships with parents and the community;
Maintain an open-door policy for parents, students, staff, and community.
Effectively represent the District, students, and staff at the state, league and district level
Schedules and leads bi-weekly meetings with all athletic representatives in the effort to create consistent communication and alignment between all secondary schools;
Coordinates transportation and scheduling of district athletic events;
Collaborates with the Superintendent and Executive Team, along with District stakeholders to respond to diverse community interests and needs;
Develops and maintains effective relationships with District leadership, colleagues, parents/guardians, students, and the community of South Kitsap;
Attends and presents on behalf of the District at Board meetings, community meetings, and others;
Other related duties as assigned.

Promote and model a positive student-centered learning environment;
Be a skilled communicator and foster effective communication among staff, parents, and community;
Participate and support professional shared decision making;
Implement requirements of Title IX and other federal, state, and local laws and regulations that affect student athletic programs;
Will work with the Risk Management Pool to identify any areas of risk. Will attend trainings to ensure District compliance over athletic programs is being met, while also establishing and implementing protocols to mitigate any areas of risk identified.
Work cooperatively and effectively to provide access to school facilities for community use in a timely and organized manner, including the scheduling of school sites for community athletic use;
Provide support to all district athletic programs, including those at the Middle School level;
Be willing to work a flexible and extended schedule to provide for supervision of after school and weekend athletic programs and/or events;
Manage the district athletic budget;
Monitor and comply with WIAA regulations and coaching standards;
Actively supervise athletic events.
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education;

Five years of secondary school teaching and coaching experience;
Five years of experience as a school district or high school athletic director preferred;
NIAAA Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) Certification;
Valid Washington State Administrative Certificate;
Experience in public K-12 academic leadership

Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.


Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license and automobile insurance, when using a personal vehicle for District business).
First Aid and CPR Certification may be required after hiring.
