Mount Vernon HS Tennis, Basketball, Baseball

One of the finest multi-sport athletes to emerge from Washington, Mark Hendrickson of Mount Vernon High School excelled in tennis, basketball, and baseball. A three-sport standout, his high school career was defined by championships, leadership, and all-around athletic excellence.

As a sophomore, Hendrickson helped lead Mount Vernon to a state championship in baseball and a runner-up finish in basketball. The following year, he guided the Bulldogs to the state basketball title, earning recognition as the tournament’s co-MVP while also serving as team captain and team MVP. That same year, he was named to both the All-Area and All-State teams, qualified for state in tennis, and earned All-Area honors in baseball.

His senior year was even more remarkable. Hendrickson captained Mount Vernon to a second straight state basketball championship, where he was named tournament MVP. He earned All-Area and All-State honors once again, was recognized as the Gatorade State Player of the Year, and was named the Skagit Valley Herald Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. He also added another baseball state championship and a state tennis qualification to his résumé.

Hendrickson went on to play basketball at Washington State University, where he was named to the Pac-10 All-Rookie team as a freshman. He later became a two-time team MVP, a team captain, and a two-time First Team All-Pac-10 selection. By the end of his career, he ranked among the top six in WSU history in five statistical categories.

In 1997, Hendrickson was selected 31st overall in the NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. After four seasons in the NBA, he transitioned to professional baseball, becoming one of the rare athletes to play at the highest level in two professional sports.
