BJ Kuntz Named WIAA Assistant Director

RENTON, Wash. – The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association has hired BJ Kuntz as its newest Assistant Director, the Association announce Monday. Kuntz will replace John Miller who is retiring from the position after 11 years with the WIAA.

Kuntz has gained a wealth of experience from her time at Wenatchee where she served in multiple roles since 1996. She was named the Dean of Students at WHS in 2014 after 12 years of Athletic Director experience for the Wenatchee School District, holding the position from 2002-2014. She began her career as a teacher and a coach for 10 years before moving into an administrative roll, first at Rogers (Puyallup) High School where she coached softball and volleyball before moving on to WHS in 2002 where she continued to coach volleyball.

Kuntz is familiar with the WIAA in a number of capacities, serving as the WIAA District 6 Director since 2015, managing the operations and finances of District events. In the position, she also gained experience collaborating with District Directors from around the state and participated in the WIAA eligibility appeals process.

A graduate of Gonzaga University, Kuntz earned a Bachelor of Arts in Health and Physical Education with teacher certification. She later earned a Masters of Education from City University.

“We are incredibly excited to have BJ join our team,” said incoming WIAA Executive Director Mick Hoffman. “With John Miller’s retirement and Brian Smith taking a position with the Kent School District, the WIAA will be fortunate to have BJ’s talents and experiences.”
