ROBERT LEVINSON
COACH
CLASS OF 2004 INDUCTEE
Bellarmine HS & Stadium HS Basketball, Football, Track & Field
Robert Levinson began his coaching career in 1938 at Bellarmine High School as the head basketball coach and assistant football coach. In 1945, he returned to his alma mater, Stadium High School, where he served as an assistant coach before being named head football and track coach in 1947.
As head football coach, Levinson captured eight league championships and orchestrated some of Tacoma prep football’s most memorable victories, including a 1955 Thanksgiving Day win over No. 1 ranked Lincoln, an undefeated 9-0 season in 1965, and Stadium’s legendary 7-0 upset of Mt. Tahoma in 1967—widely regarded as one of the greatest upsets in local history.
Levinson’s track teams were equally impressive. His squads won the state championship in 1954 and achieved multiple top-four state finishes: 4th in 1948, 2nd in 1957, 4th in 1959, and 3rd in 1963. Between 1954 and 1957, Stadium Track & Field compiled a remarkable 31-2 record, winning three West Central District championships.
Renowned for his leadership, strategic acumen, and dedication to student-athletes, Robert Levinson left a lasting mark on Washington high school athletics in both football and track.
