Sehome High School’s women’s gymnastics program is one of the most dominant in the history of Washington and national high school sports. Under the legendary leadership of Coach Nola Ayres, the program amassed an extraordinary dual meet record of 384-1 over 25 years and an overall record of 402-8 at one point in its history.
Sehome holds the NFHS national record for the most team state gymnastics championships (23) as well as the record for the most consecutive team state championships (13, from 1973–1985). After their first state loss in 1986, the program rebounded with seven consecutive state titles from 1987–1993, ranking sixth in the nation for consecutive championships. The program went on to win four more state championships, bringing the total to 23.
Sehome gymnasts have earned 32 individual state championships, including three vault titles, eight uneven bar titles, four balance beam titles, ten floor exercise titles, and seven All-Around titles. The Mariners’ commitment to excellence in gymnastics has set the standard for the state and established Sehome as a national powerhouse in the sport.
