WIAA Position Opening: Full-Time, Paid Internship


Position Description:

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association is seeking applications for a full-time, 12-month position, September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022. This position has been created as the result of grant funding from the Susan Crown Exchange. The WIAA was one of ten recipients across the nation to be awarded the grant, which is focused on developing and disseminating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum to youth athletic coaches in addition to identifying and growing the number of female youth athletic coaches in Washington. The grant is funded for three years.  This is a one-year position that has the potential for up to three years.

Stipend of $2,500 per month.  Average work week consists of 30-40 hours and will include some evenings, weekends and attendance at WIAA events.  This is an internship position and is not eligible for medical or retirement benefits.  Cell phone stipend and State Championship passes included.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or actively working toward and nearing the completion of degree)
  • Seeking a career in athletics administration or similar field
  • Able to learn new technology and adapt quickly
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Thorough understanding of social media and social media analytics
  • Knowledge of and support for high school and middle school sports and activities
  • Demonstrated ability to execute assigned projects in a timely and professional manner

Skills and Interests:

  • Attentive to details, well-organized, self-motivated
  • Comfortable working with data sets and producing visuals to demonstrate patterns/trends
  • Ability to collaborate and work closely with a team that values accountability, inclusivity and innovation
  • Passionate about the impact and importance of education-based athletics and activities
  • Passionate about intentionally working to diversify spaces
  • Experience and/or interest in working at, managing and coordinating events

Responsibilities and Duties:
In all operational matters, the intern will report directly to the Assistant Executive Director responsible for coach education and is responsible to assist the WIAA staff as follows:

General Expectations:

  • Provide a consistent standard of excellence in presentation of all written material
  • Be creative and innovative
  • Be accountable and self-motivated

Educational Offerings:

  • Support the ongoing development of the WIAA’s technology platforms to provide educational offerings
  • Utilize educational materials to create engaging online educational modules
  • Execute programming  related to registration, data collection and communication
  • Access and evaluate data and prepare reports as directed


  • Create and execute social media content and general communication as it relates to the WIAA
  • Contribute to WIAA projects as a writer in both storytelling and instructional formats


  • Organize, schedule and oversee educational events
  • Learn about and support WIAA events and tournaments
  • Contribute to a variety of event-related projects:
    • Assist with the production of State Championship and other publications
    • Provide marketing support
    • Edit content on the WIAA website and contribute to WIAA social media platforms
  • Attend various meetings, WIAA events and State Championships with WIAA staff
  • Other duties as assigned
