Amendments
The WIAA Winter Coalition is an annual meeting of the members of the WIAA Representative Assembly, league presidents, district directors, executive board members and staff. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss amendments that have been proposed by the WIAA member schools and executive board, and in some cases, to modify the proposed amendments.
An amendment is a proposed change to the current rules and regulations. The WIAA Representative Assembly members return in April for their annual meeting to vote on the proposed amendments. Amendments receiving 60% favorable votes of approval go into effect on August 1 of the following school year unless otherwise noted.
The proposed amendments for the 2010 Representative Assembly can be found here.
The amendment summary/position template can be found here.

New Bat Rule For Baseball to Take Effect on January 2, 2012
A change to Rule 1-3-2 regarding baseball bat specifications will be effective January 1, 2012, stating that the bat should be a “smooth cylinder implement from the top of the cap to the top of the knob.” The change will also require that all non-wood bats meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard, which is the standard used by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The new rule also states that non-wood bats must be labeled with a rectangular certification mark “a minimum of a half-inch on each side and located on the barrel of the bat in any contrasting color.” The new standard ensures that performances by non-wood bats are more comparable to those of wood bats. It’s also expected to minimize risk, improve play and increase teaching opportunities.
Although the new rule does not go into effect until the spring season in 2012, it is important that any bats purchased in the future meet the new standard. Coaches, players and parents need to be wary of sporting goods stores and/or manufacturers attempting to clear their inventory of bats that will not be legal after January 2, 2012. |

Baden Volleyball Information
Please be aware that the Baden Perfection Elite volleyball, the official ball of the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Volleyball Championships, will be branded the “Baden Perfection 15-0” for 2010. This is just a branding change.
Multi-colored volleyballs, appropriately branded with the NFHS logo, will be legal for all levels of play in Washington beginning with the 2010 fall season. If opposing team coaches agree to play with a colored ball, the home team will provide the ball and home team colors will be allowed. If opposing team coaches do not agree, then a white ball will be used.
During the state volleyball championships, blue, gray and white paneled balls, as well as all white balls, will be provided.
Please contact Cindy Adsit if you have any questions regarding the use of multi-colored balls in volleyball. |
