Zach Bowman of Jenkins Junior High (Chewelah, Wash.) was selected as the male Middle Level Star Student of the Month for November. Bowman is in eighth grade and competes in football, basketball, baseball and track and field.

In addition to being a four-sport athlete at Jenkins, Bowman volunteers his time to coach and umpire Little League baseball games. He is touted as a dedicated individual and a natural leader, always willing to do something to help his peers.

“He holds an incredible balance of excellence and humility and it is expressed as a quiet respect that he pays to everyone he works with,” said Sheena Rancourt, a social studies teacher at Jenkins MS. “Zach is the type of person who adults and kids are drawn to, simply because he is so kind and calm and easy to work with. He asks for nothing but the best of himself.”

Misa McKenna of Northwood Middle School (Spokane, Wash.) was named the female Middle Level Star Student of the month for November. McKenna is an eighth-grade student who participates in cross country.

McKenna battled through an injury during the fall season and went through physical therapy so she could compete with the team in its final two weeks. Misa was sidelined, but made a large impact through her spirit while she continued to attend practice and build the confidence of her teammates. Through both her competition and encouragement, McKenna helped Northwood win an All-City Title.

McKenna carries a busy load at school, where she is a member of the Civil Air Patrol and also serves as ASB president. She has done all this while carrying a 4.0 GPA.

“Misa exemplifies character, leadership and the student athlete,” said Athletic Director Parick Round. “She is a conscientious, dependable and committed team member.”
