Makenzie Ritchie of Northwest Christian (Colbert, Wash.) was named the WIAA Girls Middle Level Star Student of the month for December. Mackenzie is an eighth-grade student who participates in softball, basketball, volleyball, theater and speed roller skating.
Ritchie is coming off a softball season in which she played any position the team needed her. She saw time at catcher, pitcher, first base, third base and shortstop. No matter where she was playing in the field, she was always swinging the bat well, finishing the season with a .833 batting average and five home runs.
“Makenzie has a glowing presence amongst her peers,” said her softball coach, Renee Stewart. “ Her fun personality, combined with her grace-filled attitude make her a friend to all. Her work ethic helps her to excel and she is a responsible student who staff can depend on.”
“Dillon was typically one of the first players on the field and the last to leave after practice,” said Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Steve Homfeldt. “He conducted himself with class, both on the field of play and in the classroom. It was my great honor to be his coach!”
Sherling was a leader for his football team in the fall and will continue his involvement in extracurricular activities throughout the year. He serves as the school’s yearbook editor and is involved in helping with audio and video needs at school assemblies.
