The WIAA is pleased to announce Chase Middle School's Bailey Warnica and Freeman Middle School’s Luke Ruby as the November “Give Me 5” Star Students of the Month.
Warnica is an eighth grader from Chase Middle School in Spokane, WA. She is a three-sport athlete, participating in cross country, basketball and track. Warnica is also a member of Chase’s ASB/Leadership group where she demonstrates the core values of athletics both at school and on the field.
Highly respected by her peers and faculty, Warnica is outstanding both academically and athletically. Along with her three school sports, Warnica participates in club soccer and basketball all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
The Chase coaching staff says of Warnica, “Bailey is a team leader who pushes herself to be the best. She is a hard worker at every practice and demonstrates teamwork and sportsmanship.”
Ruby is an eighth grader from Freeman Middle School in Rockford, WA. Ruby is a four-sport athlete, participating in football, wrestling, basketball and track.
Coach Chad Ripke explained that although he only sees Ruby at practice, Ruby’s impact on the 8th grade football team has not gone unnoticed. Ruby displays great character, intelligence and follows up on all the little things that count.
“Luke does a great job of treating each kid as an individual and making them feel like part of the team,” Ripke said.
“Luke exemplifies the quote of ‘it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog’,” said Freeman athletic director Brian Parisotto.
“Luke, although small in stature, plays, acts and leads like a big dog.”
The students will be featured on the Activities Matter and the Middle Level websites. The monthly campaign is dedicated to highlighting two middle school students that demonstrate the core principles of the program: honor, sportsmanship, courage, respect, and citizenship. |
