Each week, the WIAA and Gesa Credit Union will recognize WIAA student-athletes for outstanding performances and impactful contributions in their communities. Selections are based on nominations. To nominate a student-athlete for consideration, please fill out the following form.

All students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the Athlete of the Week Award. Students may win the award once during any given academic year.

2023-2024 WINNERS

Oak-Harbor-Wildcats JAYDEN BOYLES – Oak Harbor Track & Field (SR)

Oak Harbor senior Jayden Boyles placed first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.85. He then proceeded to break the Wildcats’ 30-year-old school record for the 200 meter dash with time of 21.61. He capped his day by anchoring the 4×100 relay team that also took first place in the NWC Tri-Meet.

Liberty Christian (Walla Walla) Patriots HANNAH BUTCHER – Liberty Christian Fastpitch Softball (SR)

Hannah Butcher is the starting pitcher for the Liberty Christian Patriots. She has had to step up and cover all critical pitching due to a recent injury to the team’s second pitcher. Buthcer has pitched over 53 innings in 11 games, throwing 957 pitches. She’s had 126 strikeouts, 43 of which have caught batters looking. Over the past four wins, Butcher has pitched 23 1/3 innings, with 104 batters faced, 420 pitches, and 59 strikeouts. She is a leader on and off the field. On the field she’s the team captain of both the softball and volleyball teams; off the field, she’s the senior class president. She is an FCA (Fellow Christian Athlete) leader and is heavily involved with raising and showing animals with FFA (Future Farmers of America), all while carrying a 3.9 GPA. Butcher has committed to Arizona Christian University for softball.

Toppenish-Wildcats JADEN DIAZ – Toppenish Tennis (SR)

Toppenish senior Jaden Diaz remains unbeaten at #1 singles, dropping only four games total to his league opponents thus far. He won both of his league matches, 6-0, 6-0, and beat a 4A non-league opponent in straight sets this past week. Diaz qualified for state in 1A doubles last year as a junior and looks to do the same in singles this year.

R.-A.-Long-Lumberjacks AYLA FOREMAN – R.A. Long Tennis (SR)

R.A. Long senior Ayla Foreman is perfect at number three singles and is currently 10-0 on the season. Last year, she played mostly on the JV team, but she has really stepped up this season. Foreman is mentally tough and has won her tie-breakers and several three-set matches. Last Friday, she played a girl for the second time around in league. In the first match, Foreman prevailed in three sets, but this time she won easily in straight sets. She maintains a 3.6 GPA, was Homecoming Queen, and also acts as the manager on the boys tennis team.

Grandview-Greyhounds TITUS JEFFREY – Grandview Track & Field (JR)

After throwing the shot put 58′ 2″ at the Prosser Invite on April 19, Titus Jeffrey has the fifth-best mark in Yakima Valley history and the best mark for a junior. He also holds the Grandview High School record. Jeffrey leads the state in shot put and sits third in the discus. Last Saturday, he hit an all-time personal record, extending the previous school record that he set on March 16 by a foot, going from 54’ 6″ to 55’ 6″, before throwing 58′ 2″ in Prosser. He also broke the school record in the discus during the same meet in Cheney, throwing 163’ 10″.

SAMI POTVIN – Olympia Fastpitch Softball (SR)

Olympia High School senior Sami Potvin threw a no-hitter this past week, striking out 15 against Graham-Kapowsin. She also blasted three homers in the game, accounting for six RBI in the Bears’ 9-0 win. Potvin is batting .595 (25-for-42) with six homers and 25 RBI in 12 games. On the bump, she has thrown 52 innings with 116 strikeouts and only seven walks. She is 5-0 this season for the 11-1 Bears.

Tonasket-Tigers BRADON PROCK – Tonasket Baseball (JR)

Last weekend, during a doubleheader against Okanogan High School, Tonasket junior Bradon Prock went a combined 4-for-6 at the plate. He scored two runs, drew a walk, and knocked in the game-winning run in walk-off fashion in the second game. In the team’s next game against Lake Roosevelt this past Tuesday, Prock pitched all five innings. He allowed just one run on two hits and a walk, striking out 11 batters in a 14-1 victory for the Tigers.

Freeman-Scotties KAYLEE RIPKE – Freeman Fastpitch Softball (SO)

Over the past week, sophomore Kaylee Ripke has hit .500 with a double, four home runs, 15 RBIs, nine runs scored, and seven stolen bases. On the mound she had a record of 4-2, giving up only 7 earned runs and striking out 66.

Stanwood-Spartans KATHLEEN ROBBINS – Stanwood Golf (JR)

Kathleen Robbins is a junior on the Stanwood High School girls golf team. She has been an All-Wesco performer and varsity athlete since her freshman year. Recently, Robbins placed 15th out of 116 girls at the Burlington-Edison Invitational Tournament at Skagit Valley Country Club. She then shot a 43 at the Mid-Season League Tournament and was the top overall medalist.

Lind-Ritzville-Broncos DAMON SCHILLING – Lind-Ritzville Track & Field (SO)

Sophomore Damon Schilling has been an extremely hard worker for the Lind-Ritzville track team this season. He has been improving not only his time, but also his friends’ times in relays. Last week at the Moscow invite, he broke the school record and took first in the 400 with a time of 48.9.

Jackson-Timberwolves YANINA SHERWOOD – Jackson Fastpitch Softball (SR)

Jackson’s Yanina Sherwood pitched two complete-game shutouts last week. First, in an 11-0 win over Roosevelt, Sherwood only allowed one hit. She also hit a three-run home run from the batter’s box. Sherwood followed this up the next day with a two-hit shutout of fourth-ranked Lake Stevens. She had 13 strikeouts against Lake Stevens and also went 2-for-4 at the plate, blasting a three-run bomb and driving in four runs. For the week, Sherwood was 2-0 in the circle, allowing 0 runs; at the plate, she hit two home runs and had seven runs batted in.

Summit-Classical-Christian-Archers WILL SIMON – Summit Classical Christian Golf (JR)

After leading his basketball team to State Spokane Arena this winter, junior Will Simon has been tearing up the golf course this spring. He has been the medalist in two of three league matches and shot a 34 at Gold Mountain in Bremerton to finish last week’s Sea Tac League outing, posting an impressive two-under par.

Northport-Mustangs DAWSON BARIBAULT – Northport Baseball (JR)

Northport junior pitcher Dawson Baribault has started his season with a 3-0 record, throwing a perfect game, a no-hitter, and a one-hitter in each of his first three starts. He has struck out 55 of 57 batters he’s faced. Baribault also has three immaculate innings thus far this year. From the plate, he’s hitting .471 with a .756 on base percentage. He also carries a 4.0 GPA this year and serves as Northport’s ASB president.”

Ellensburg-Bulldogs CHARLES BENNETT – Ellensburg Track & Field (JR)

Junior Charles Bennett threw 55′ 1/4″” at the Pasco Invite to break Ellensburg High School’s all-time shot put record, set in 1960. Bennett has been at the cusp of a breakout all season, and this past wek he set a new personal record by three feet. He works hard every day at practice and is a dedicated teammate.

Kennewick-Lions JACKSON BURNS – Kennewick Track & Field (SR)

Jackson Burns placed first in the 110 hurdles at the Pasco Invite with a time of 14.22 and placed second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 39.05. He was also part of Kennewick High School’s boys 4×100 relay team, which finished in a time of 42.84, placing them second in the state by .01 seconds. All of these times beat current Kennewick school records. In the 110 hurdles final, Burns raced against the top five hurdlers in the state and helped four of them PR with his performance. This is all after competing three days earlier in the MCC meet where he won both of his hurdle races as well, helping his team win the meet.

Toutle-Lake-Fighting-Ducks CONNOR COX – Toutle Lake Baseball (SR)

In four games this past week, Toutle Lake senior Connor Cox went 6-for-10 with three Homeruns and one double. He had 11 RBIs and scored nine runs. He was the starting pitcher in one of those games, earning a win and striking out seven batters.

Sedro-Woolley-Cubs KASANDRA GONZALEZ – Sedro-Woolley Fastpitch Softball (SO)

Sedro-Woolley sophomore Kasandra Gonzalez picked up two wins on the mound this past weekend against two state-ranked teams (#5 Lynden and #7 Cascade). On the mound, she pitched 12.0 innings, only allowing four hits and two runs, walking only one batter while striking out 19. She lowered her ERA to 1.17 on the season, with opponents hitting just .104 against her. In addition to her success on the mound, Gonzalez helped the Cubs offensively, going 3-for-8 with a double, home run, three walks, four RBIs, and six runs scored, generating a .500 on-base percentage and .875 slugging-percentage.

Liberty-(Spangle)-Lancers JORDYN JESKE – Liberty Fastpitch Softball (SO)

Sophomore Jordyn Jeske recorded her 400th career strikeout against Lind-Ritzville-Sprague this past week, as the Lancers swept the Broncos in two games by scores of 5-4 and 4-3. Jeske recorded 21 and 16 strikeouts respectively, reaching 104 for the 2024 season. She has a .795 ERA over 44 innings pitched. From the plate, she went 2-for-3 in the first game with a double and homerun. Jeske actually leads the team in homeruns with seven so far this season. She has a season batting average of 706 and on-base percentage of .800.

Camas-Papermakers JACINDA LEE – Camas Golf (SR)

Senior Jacinda Lee continues to lead the team and program with integrity, dedication, and academic excellence. This past week, Lee led her team to victory at the Pasco Invite. Not only did she match the course record of 65, but the Camas coaching staff also had several coaches also approach them with compliments about her character.

Mead-Panthers ALEXIS MATTOX – Mead Tennis (SO)

Alexis Matox, sophomore tennis player for the Panthers of Mead High School, put together a record of 3-0 at number one singles this week, improving her season record to 11-0. Mattox defeated the GSL reigning MVP this week 7-5, 7-5, which was also the first loss that player has taken to another GSL opponent in three seasons. She ended the week playing first doubles at the Tri-Cities Invite, which had 20 schools participating. Mattox and her partner, Josie Kellogg, won the tournament, only dropping eight total games in three matches on day two. They won the championship 6-1, 6-0 to cap off an amazing week. She is also known as a kind competitor,. One opponent said she wanted to be upset at losing to Mattox but couldn’t because she is so nice! On and off the court, Mattox is the type of athlete every coach wishes to have on their team.

Cascade-Christian-Cougars NOAH MITTON – Cascade Christian Track & Field (SR)

Senior Noah Mitton set a new Cascade Christian school record time of 10:07 in the 3200 this past week. He leads the distance team as captain, holds a 4.0 GPA, and is enrolled in all advanced placement classes. After his performance in the 3200, Mitton now holds school records in the 800, 1600, and 3200, also participating as a member of the 4×400 relay. He recently took 10 days off to go mentor and serve others in Guatemala, all while maintaining his fitness and coming back to set new school records

Richland-Bombers MATTHEW MORRISON – Richland Tennis (SR)

Richland tennis player Matthew Morrison went undefeated at the Tri-City Invite, dropping only five games. A senior, Morrison is currently 14-0 on the season. He went 6-0, 6-0 against Kennewick, finishing one point shy of a golden set in each set.

Almira-Coulee-Hartline-Warriors BETH OKAMOTO – Almira-Coulee-Hartline Fastpitch Softball (SR)

Beth Okamoto is a well-rounded player, but, more than that, she is a well-rounded person. She is always ready to work hard on the field and is a strong leader for the Almira-Coulee-Hartline fastpitch softball team. She is humble on and off the field, and even though she is obviously amazing at everything she does, she never showboats and is always focused on moving the team forward. Okamoto has been an outstanding player this year. She is the starting pitcher and number two batter on her team. When she is not pitching, she plays shortstop, too. Right now, Okamoto’s batting average is .882. Her slugging percent is 1.136, and she has seven doubles and 28 stolen bases. As a pitcher, she has a total of 59 strikeouts and has only walked four batters, maintaining a fielding percentage of 1.000. Whether she is in the field playing shortstop, hitting, running the bases, or pitching, she always gets the job done.

Elma-Eagles AALEIGHA WELD – Elma Fastpitch Softball (SR)

The Elma High School fastpitch softball team played five games in five days this past week, including two games against two top teams in the state. Senior Aaleigha Weld hit two home runs — the first of her career — and batted .583 with eight RBIs in that stretch. She had zero errors playing left field, throwing out multiple players at home plate. She has been the best teammate and a great leader for an Elma team that is ranked #5 in RPI.

Hanford-Falcons LANDRY ALLEN – Hanford Track & Field (JR)

Landry Allen, a junior for the Falcons track team competed at the nationally ranked Arcadia Invitational in Arcadia California where he jumped the state leading mark of 12’9 and placed 5th in the pole vault.

Omak-Pioneers KAMDIN CARLTON – Omak Track & Field (FR)

Kamdin Carlton of Omak HS had a big season opener as a freshman in the high jump, reaching 5-2 to place first, which was just one inch off of her personal best of 5-3. Carlton also finished 10th in the triple jump with a mark of 30-7.

Cle-Elum-Roslyn-Warriors MAX DEARING – Cle Elum-Roslyn Baseball (SR)

Max Dearing has put up impressive numbers over the past week. Against Tenino, Dearing had 10 strikeouts and 2 walks. This season to date, Dearing has 50 strikeouts and 3 earned runs with a .789 whip. Dearing posts a 6-1 record on the season.

Asotin-Panthers IZZY DOUGAN – Asotin Fastpitch Softball (JR)

With her team trailing 9-0 to Kettle Falls in the 5th inning Izzy Dougan came up to bat with the bases loaded and 2 outs. Dougan hit the first pitch over the right center fence for a grandslam homerun. In the 6th inning, Dougan came back up to the plate with bases loaded again. With 2 outs and a 2-2 count, Dougan easily cleared the right center fence to tie the game. Asotin went on to win the game, 13-12.

Skyview-Storm DAPHNE EVENSON – Skyview Track & Field (JR)

Daphne Evenson, a junior places second at the Arcadia Invitational in her heat of the 800, coming in at 2:14.97. Evenson currently owns league and region leading times in the 800, 1600, and 3200.

Timberline-Blazers NOEL FERNANDEZ – Timberline Soccer (SO)

Timberline Sophomore Noel Fernandez has contributed to his team’s success early on in the season. On April 2nd, Fernandez scored a hat-trick and recorded 1 assist in a 5-2 win over Peninsula High School. Two days later, Fernandez scored another goal and was relentless all over the field as Timberline defeated inner-city rival North Thurston High school 3-0. Fernandez has led the way with 10 goals, 2 assists and creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities in a positive start to the season for the Timberline Blazers Boys’ Soccer team; currently 2nd in 3A South Sound Conference at 6-1-0 and 7-1-1 overall.

St.-John-Endicott-Eagles BRODY FLEMING – St. John-Endicott-Lacrosse Track & Field (FR)

Brody Fleming placed first in all four of his events during the District 9 1B track meet. His events are 100, 200, javelin and long jump. Brody is a multi-sport athlete who also excels in the classroom.

East-Valley-(Yakima)-Red-Devils ISAAC FORD – East Valley (Yakima) Track & FIeld (SR)

In 3 meets so far this season, Isaac Ford has placed first in each individual event he’s participated in, with one 3rd place. These events are the 100 (11.0), 200 (21.96), and long jump (22′-1.75″”). He has also led off on our school record setting 4×100 relay (42.25) and 4×400 relay team (3:30.91) which have placed first, first, second, third, and fifth at 3 invitationals this season.

Walla-Walla-Blue-Devils WHITNEY GRIFFITH – Walla Walla Track & Field (SR)

Whitney Griffith won the Eastmont Invitational in the Discus with a new meet record and a new school record with a throw of 145′ 2″” She is currently the State of Washington overall leader and ranked #44 in the country

Mark-Morris-Monarchs MAKENZIE HENTHORN – Mark Morris Fastpitch Softball (SO)

On Friday March 29th, Makenzie Henthorn pitched a No Hitter with 12 strikeouts and no walks against R A Long high school resulting in a 13-0 win in 6 innings. This season, Henthorn has pitched 70 strikeouts in 34 innings pitched with only 5 walks.

Cedar-Park-Christian-Eagles JOSIAH JAQUITH – Cedar Park Christian Track & Field (SR)

Josiah Jaquith is off to a great senior season. He set our school record in the 2k steeple this week with a time of 6:08.73 which gave him a 1st place finish. He also placed 6th in the 3200m with a personal record time of 9:51.32. Jaquith is a great teammate who always encourages others.

Yakama-Nation-Eagles MA-LENA MCCLELLAN – Yakama Nation Track & Field (JR)

Ma-Lena Mcclellan has overcome a few obstacles in just the beginning of this season. She is up for honor rolls every quarter, leads and uplifts her team of throwers, and even runners with a positive attitude on and off the track/pit. For 3 seasons, not counting this 2024 season, Ma-Lena has been the only Native American to compete in throwing events, and the only girl from the Yakama Nation Tribal School. Yet she has successfully made it to regionals twice for shotput, and once for discus. 

Saint-George's-Dragons BRAYDON BAYLESS – Saint George’s Track & Field (JR)

Braydon Bayless set three person records on his way to winning three separate events at the Glenn Wolff Invitational track meet this past week. The junior leapt 21′ 10.5″” to win the long jump, took first with a 23.13 time in the 200, and helped Saint George’s pull off another win in the 4×100 relay. Bayless currently leads the 2B classification in five events.

Meridian-Trojans DANIEL BLANKENBURG – Meridian Golf (JR)

Meridian junior Daniel Blankenburg placed first in the Joe Lenberg Classic at Apple Tree Golf Course this past week, shooting a 2-under-par 70. The event included 125 golfers from 26 different schools. He also placed third in a Northwest Conference League Match at Swinomish Golf Course, shooting a 1-under-par 70.

Pateros-Billy-Goats GISELLE CENICEROS – Pateros Track & Field (JR)

Pateros junior Giselle Ceniceros is a prime example of what it means to be a student-athlete. She excels in the classroom, maintaining a GPA over 3.7, while also being a member of ASB leadership. She is a respectful and genuine student that every teacher wishes they had in their classroom. After school, she attends track practice, where she has looked special in her first year in the program. She is just so eager to learn and feeds off of competition, as her results have shown. At the Ray Cross Invitational in Ephrata, Ceniceros competed with girls from higher classifications and ran a blistering 13.51 in the 100 and 28.24 in the 200, looking like a natural in her second-ever track meet.

Brewster-Bears CORT GEBBERS – Brewster Track & Field (SR)

Cort Gebbers set school records in the shot put and discus at the Ray Cross Invitational track and field meet in Ephrata on Saturday, March 23. In the shot put, his 56′ 3″” throw set a new personal and meet record, ranking him as the top shot put athlete in the state of Washington, regardless of classification. His discus throw of 168’ 10” also set a new personal record and currently places him second in all classifications across the WIAA. A senior this season, Gebbers won the shot put at the 2B State Championships last year as a junior with a throw of 50’ 6″.

Othello-Huskies FELIPE HARO – Othello Soccer (SR)

Othello senior midfielder Felipe Haro has demonstrated his leadership skills this season and has earned the right to be team captain. He has 4 goals and 5 assists this spring and continues to improve each day. On March 26, Haro scored two goals against Davis High School, one of the top three teams in the state in 4A. He shows his leadership and skills in the soccer field as well as in the classroom, as he never misses a practice and is always in school. Haro is very humble and a great leader.

West-Valley-(Yakima)-Rams JUNE JACKY – West Valley Tennis (JR)

June Jacky’s performance in her most recent tennis match exemplified the epitome of sportsmanship, strategy, and determination. Throughout the intense three-hour encounter, Jacky showcased remarkable restraint, poise, and control, distinguishing herself as a formidable competitor deserving of recognition. One of her standout qualities is her keen ability to assess her opponent’s strengths and weaknesses, effectively leveraging this insight to her advantage. This strategic acumen was evident as she navigated the match, making calculated decisions that ultimately contributed to her success. Despite facing a challenging three-hour battle, Jacky remained unwavering in her commitment to her game plan and maintained her composure even when her opponent faltered. While some may have urged her to adopt a more aggressive approach, her astute assessment of her opponent’s game and her reasons for sticking to her strategy demonstrated her maturity and confidence in her abilities. Moreover, she displayed steadfast resilience, weathering the frustrations of spectators and the heightened emotions of her opponent. Undeterred by external pressures, she stayed focused and determined, never faltering in her pursuit of victory. In the end, Jacky’s unwavering resolve and exceptional performance paid off as she emerged triumphant. Her dedication, sportsmanship, and exemplary display of skill make her a deserving candidate for Athlete of the Week nomination. Through her outstanding achievements on the court, Jacky has undoubtedly earned the admiration and respect of her peers and fans alike.

Hanford-Falcons COLE KAIP – Hanford Soccer (JR)

Junior Cole Kaip scored both a game-tying and game-winning goal in a shoot-out to help the Hanford boys soccer team win its first game of the week. The Falcons ended the week with another victory, as Kaip assisted his teammates in a 2-1 win. He had a hand in three of the goals scored this week, including his game-winning penalty kick. Hanford soccer has not had someone put those numbers up within a week in years. Cole Kaip is a stud on the pitch but also a great student in the classroom who leads by example.

Lakewood-Cougars KATIE KRUEGER – Lakewood Fastpitch SOFTBALL (JR)

Last week, Lakewood pitcher Katie Krueger healped lead the Cougars to two victories. She pitched a 14-6 victory on Tuesday, striking out 12. She followed that up Thursday with a perfect game, striking out 8 in a 5-inning run-ruled game. On offense, the junior was 4-for-5 with 2 triples and an .875 OBP, scoring 6 runs. So far this season, she is 5-2, pitching all 43 innings with 43 strikeouts, giving up 46 hits and 11 walks. Opponents are hitting .138 so far in four league games. She leads her team in OBP, triples, walks and runs-scored on offense, ranking second in hits and batting average. Krueger is a strong leader and was named captain by her teammates. Academically, she strives to perform and is a 4.0 student. She also plays alto sax in the band and is the junior drum major.

Moses-Lake-Mavericks PAIGE RICHARDSON – Moses Lake Fastpitch Softball (JR)

In the past week, junior Paige Richardson has three victories from the circle with two no-hitters. On March 22 against Sunnyside, she struck out 11 in her first no-hitter, facing one hitter over the minimum while going 2-for-3 from the plate with a double. On the 29th against Eisenhowe, she threw another no-hitter, striking out 6, once again facing just one hitter over the minimum. She also hit a home run at the plate, going 2-for-3 for the game. On March 30 against Glacier Peak, she had 6 strikeouts and only allowed 2 earned runs in a 7-3 victory.

Mercer-Island-Islanders  SOPHIA RODRIGUEZ – Mercer Island Track & Field (FR)

Freshman Sophia Rodriguez ran the fastest 1600 in the state across all classifications at the Lake Washington vs. Mercer Island dual meet on Tuesday evening. She ran a 4:48, breaking a 44-year-old school record in the process. The freshman followed that up with a 2:17 time in the 800, which ranks third in 3A. This all took place after Rodriguez set two freshman national records this winter in both the 2-mile and 5k at the Nike Indoor Nationals.

Auburn-Mountainview-Lions GINO TRIPPY JR. – Auburn Mountainview Baseball (SR)

Gino Trippy Jr. pitched a 7-inning complete game no-hitter this past Tuesday against Todd Beamer, striking out 16 batters. Auburn Mountainview won 7-0 in a game that was tight until the bottom of the sixth inning. Trippy Jr. also went 2-for-4 at the plate, with 2 RBIs and a stolen base. He followed Tuesday’s performance with another 2-for-4 day at the plate on Thursday, tacking on 4 more RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Trippy Jr’s weekly totals include a 7-inning no-hitter with 16 strikeouts from the mound and a 4-for-8 showing with 6 RBIs and 4 stolen bases in the batter’s box.

Sound-Christian-Lions KELLEN WEEDON – Sound Christian Academy Baseball (JR)

Kellen Weedon has started his baseball season off strong. He has led Sound Christian Aacdemy to a 2-1 record behind some amazing pitching outings to start the season. In the first two Sea-Tac 1B League matchups, Weedon has pitched 2 complete games, including a no-hitter. In 10 innings of work from the mound, he’s allowed just one hit, striking out 24 of the 33 batters he’s faced, with 0 walks. Royal High School sophomore Jill Allred started the season off strong on both offense and defense, helping the Knights to a 3-0 record this past week to kick off the spring. She tallied 33 strikeouts in 20 innings, averaging 1.65 strike outs per inning, with 15 against Deer Park on Saturday and 12 in a one-hitter against Selah. Her ERA is 1.40, with opponents hitting just .178 batting against her. Allred is a force to be reckoned with on offense also. This week, she hit .700 in 10 at-bats with 4 RBI. In the week prior, she started the season with a homerun in her first at-bat. She’s also a great teammate and leader; as a sophomore, she was voted as one of the team captains this year for Royal.

Pasco-Bulldogs MADISON CHAMBERLAIN – Pasco Dance/Drill (SR)

In her second year as team captain, Madison Chamberlain led the Pasco Bulldogs to an undefeated season in both Hip Hop and Show. Her team finished as District Champions in Hip Hop, Pom, and Show before pulling off a three-peat in all three of those categories at the State Championships in Yakima this past weekend.

Colfax-Bulldogs ZACHARY COOPER – Colfax Track & Field (JR)

Colfax junior Zachary Cooper competed at the Hawk Invitational this past weekend in Walla Walla, winning the 100m, 200m, and Pole Vault. Also helping the Bulldogs to a second-place finish in the 4×100 relay, Cooper won the meet award for most individual points scored with 38.

DeSales-Fighting-Irish KATE DUNHAM – DeSales Fastpitch Softball (SR)

Senior Kate Dunham had a monster doubleheader, leading the DeSales Irish to a sweep of Columbia Burbank with victories of 12-4 and 22-3. In two games, she went 6-for-6 and hit for the cycle, finishing the day with a double, a triple, two homeruns, three walks, four stolen bases, six runs scored, and nine RBIs. She also pitched one game, allowing two hits in seven innings while striking out 14 batters.

Battle-Ground-Tigers HAILEY FERGUSON – Battle Ground Fastpitch Softball (SR)

Battle Ground senior Hailey Ferguson continues to perform on the softball field and in the classroom. Last week, she reached base 14 times, piling up 9 hits, 5 homeruns, 14 RBIs, and 6 runs scored as a switch-hitter. She’s also a great student, taking running start classes on top of her athletic workload.

Shorewood-Stormrays DZANAN FIKIC – Shorewood Soccer (SR)

Shorewood senior Dzanan Fikic had an incredible week last week, scoring some absolutely amazing goals off set pieces and providing another awesome assist. He helped his team to two wins, knocking off their opponents 6-0 and 3-0. In the 3-0 win, Fikic had a hand in all three goals, scoring two top-left free-kick goals in the span of two minutes and assisting on the third goal.

Cedarcrest-Red-Wolves LAINE McKENZIE – Cedarcrest Track & Field (SO)

Cedarcrest sophomore Laine McKenzie won three events in a double-duel track meet against Kamiak and Mountlake Terrace this past week, winning the high jump, long jump, and 200m dash. Her 200m time shot her up to first place 2A State rankings. She also sits in the top five in the 100m, 200m, high jump, and long jump.

Port-Angeles-Roughriders COLTON ROMERO – Port Angeles Baseball (SR)

Port Angeles senior Colton Romero has thrown two no-hitters in his first two starts this season, striking out 19 hitters in nine straight innings. He also maintains a season batting average of .333 on offense.

Soap-Lake-Eagles JOCSAN SANCHEZ-CRUZ – Soap Lake Tennis (SO)

Jocsan Sanchez-Cruz is a leader and an example for others both on and off the courts. He has consistently maintained a 3.4 GPA or higher this season while juggling school, tennis, and assisting with Soap Lake High School’s gear-up program. Additionally, Sanchez-Cruz has been nominated as his team’s captain for always being a mentor and an example for all student-athletes. This year, as a sophomore, he’s earned a spot on Soap Lake’s top doubles team, battling his way up the team ladder. In two matches played so far this season, Sanchez-Cruz has two victories in doubles matches against two very tough teams from larger classifications. In his latest match, he was dominant at the net, putting away volleys to secure the win. Not only was this a big win for Sanchez-Cruz and his doubles partner, but it also helped the boys team secure a win, improving their record to 2-0 on the young season. Following his own personal match, Sanchez-Cruz made sure to support his teammates during the remaining matches and cheer each of them on, showing his true leadership as team captain. He has been a crucial player this year with his talents on the court and his natural leadership abilities.

Winlock-Cardinals VICTORIA SANCHO – Winlock Track & Field (SO)

Victoria Sancho, sophomore track and field athlete at Winlock High School, competed at the Stanwood Freshman/Sophomore Invite on March 23, winning the 100m, 400m, and long jump. The 400m and long jump were both new events for Sancho, who competed and succeeded against athletes from 2A, 3A, and 4A schools.

River-Ridge-Hawks JAYLAH SOK-VANDERGRIFF – River Ridge Fastpitch Softball (SO)

Last week, Jaylah Sok-Vandergriff, sophomore pitcher for the River Ridge fastpitch team, threw 9 innings of shut out ball (0.00 ERA) across two games, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 18. She also hit .380 from the plate over this span. She also manages to maintain a 3.75 GPA.

Cashmere-Bulldogs CAED WILKINSON – Cashmere Baseball (SR)

Senior Caed Wilkinson hit for the cycle in Cashmere High School’s non-league game against the Tonasket Tigers last week, driving in 7 of his team’s 10 total runs in the process. The senior also pitched pitched four innings, recording 4 strikeouts while allowing just one hit and no earned runs.

Blaine-Borderites EMERSYN BAKKER – Blaine Fastpitch Softball (SR)

Last year, Emersyn Bakker ended the season with 237 strikeouts, giving her about an average of 13 per game. During Blaine’s first game of the 2024 season, she lead the Borderites to a 9-4 victory with 16 strikeouts. Her coaching staff and team is excited to see where this season takes her and what goals she sets and achieves.

Kamiakin-Braves KOBEY BATES – Kamiakin Golf (JR)

Kobey Bates is a junior playing varsity golf at 4A Kamiakin High School in Kennewick, Washington. He is in his third year of varsity golf, qualifying for the State Championships each year and finishing 28th last year as a sophomore. Bates earned medalist honors by finishing first place in back-to-back invitational tournaments last week. On March 7 at Sun Willows Golf Course, in Pasco, Washington, he finished at 2-under-par 70 and finished the next day on March 8 at Zintel Creek Golf Course in Kennewick, Washington, with a 1-under-par 65. He has demonstrated outstanding and consistent play against 37 schools and 185 players from all over Eastern Washington.

Dayton-Bulldogs PEYTON BENAVIDES – Dayton Fastpitch Softball (FR)

Over four games this past week, Dayton freshman Peyton Benavides went 16-for-18 at the plate with 9 RBI. In the field, she had a perfect fielding percentage, starting two games at first base and two more as the starting pitcher. In her two starts on the mound, she gave up only 6 hits over 10 innings and struck out 18, leading the Bulldogs to a 3-1 start to the season.

Gig-Harbor-Tides COLE FLOWERS – Gig Harbor Baseball (SR)

Gig Harbor senior pitcher Cole Flowers took a no-hitter into the seventh and final inning on Saturday against Mercer Island. He finished the game with four strikeouts, three walks, and just one hit over six innings pitched.

Ocosta-Wildcats JESSIE GILBERT – Ocosta Fastpitch Softball (JR)

In Ocosta’s first game of the fastpitch softball season, junior pitcher Jessie Gilbert had 15 strikeouts from the mound. On the other side of the plate, she added a double and a walk, driving in two RBIs in the process.

Selah-Vikings CLARA HOLMES – Selah Track & Field (SR)

On Friday, March 15th, senior Clara Holmes accomplished one of her long-term goals, pole vaulting 11 feet to break the Selah High School record by 5 inches. As a result, she is currently ranked 1st in 2A in pole vault, and tied for the second-highest vault in all divisions in Washington. Aside from a great performance, Holmes is a leader on her team and an advocate for pole vault. She helps her competitors and teammates improve through encouragement, form analysis, and her wealth of pole vault knowledge. She is always seeking to improve herself as well. She is a great teammate, role model, and person.

North-Beach-Hyaks TYRELL HOVLAND – North Beach Track & Field (SR)

Tyrell Hovland recently competed in the Rainier Icebreaker Invitational at Rainier, WA, as well as an opening Pacific League meet at Raymond, WA. During those meets, Tyrell had times of 11.85 in the 100, 23.79 in the 200, and 6’0″” in the high jump. Those marks have him ranked #8 in the 100, #3 in the 200, and #2 in the high jump in the entirety of the 2B classification. He is also a member of the 4×100 relay that is ranked #7. He has all-around talent, and he is going to be a huge asset for the North Beach track & field team this year!

Republic-Tigers DAVID JACKSON – Republic Track & Field (SO)

Sophomore David Jackson started the track season with a bang at the Fischer Jamboree at Colville High School on Saturday, winning both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Jackson recorded a 12.06 time in the 100, which ranks him at 7th in the state 1B division, and he posted a time of 24.27 in the 200, which is good enough to rank him 2nd in the state 1B division for Washington.

Chiawana-Riverhawks MICHAL KRESSE – Chiawana Dance/Drill (SR)

Michal Kresse made the Varsity Dance team, the Chiawana Flight Crew, as a freshman. Now a senior, Kresse has danced on varsity all four years, ending her high school career as her team’s captain. She is humble, hard-working, trustworthy, and kind. Kresse is also involved in our Advanced Leadership class that helps plan events, assemblies, and dances. She isn’t a class officer, but she often takes the lead on big projects. She is also an active member of National Honor Society and volunteers weekly in an elementary school. She is an amazing young lady who goes above and beyond in every aspect.

Ephrata-Tigers HAYDEN ROBERTS – Ephrata Track & Field (SR)

Ephrata senior Hayden Roberts had two first-place finishes at the Papa Wells Invitational Track Meet in Yakima this past week. Both performances also set meet records for their respective event. Roberts ran a 2A state-leading 4:18.0 in the 1600m run and a 1:57.6 in the 800m, which currently ranks third in 2A.

Montesano-Bulldogs CRISTOFER TOBAR – Montesano Soccer (SO)

Montesano sophomore Cristofer Tobar has become an exemplary student-athlete. He has been named team captain and contributed to his team’s success early on in the season. This past Wednesday, on March 13, Tobar recorded a hat trick against Eatonville, helping the Bulldogs secure a 5-0 win. He continues to be a great teammate to others and is always looking for ways to improve in the classroom and on the soccer pitch.

Auburn-Riverside-Ravens KAYLEE WALKER – Auburn Riverside Fastpitch Softball (SR)

Last week, during the first two games of the season for the Auburn Riverside Fastpitch Softball Season, Kaylee Walker was 4-for-4 with three home runs, including two home runs in an inning, with one being a grand slam. She also scored 7 runs, had 4 walks, and drove in 11 RBI, sporting an .889 on-base percentage, with her only out being a sacrifice fly.

Mary Walker senior Charlee Zollman is a natural-born leader. She has raised her own funds to learn and train from a pitching coach. A skilled competitor at a small school, Zollman has become accustomed to pitching complete-game double-headers with a smile on her face. In fact, she’s earned herself the nickname, “The Smiling Pitcher,” across the league. She never displays frustration, maintaining her composure very well. The team looks to her for guidance, as she is a prominent voice on the field, directing the team from the mound. Her pitching isn’t the only thing that she is amazing at, as she is also quite the hitter. As one of Mary Walker’s lead-off batters, she is quick and almost always gets on base. Most importantly, Zollman acts as a role model for the younger girls. She is sharing her abilities and talents by teaching younger girls correct form, motions, and pitching techniques. “

Lynden senior Anthony Canales has been a standout member of the boys basketball team his whole career. In the 2A State Championship Final this past Saturday, he showed off his skill and versatility, scoring 29 points, securing 8 rebounds, and maintaining perfect accuracy from the free-throw line, going 4-for-4. Canales’s performance helped deliver the third-consecutive State Title to the Lynden community

Eastside-Catholic-Crusaders JACOB COFIE – Eastside Catholic Basketball (SR)

In an electrifying performance that will be remembered for years to come, 3A Boys Tournament MVP and future Virginia Cavalier Jacob Cofie led the Eastside Catholic Crusaders to their first State Title in program history. Over the course of three wins, he averaged an impressive 18.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.7 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. His all-around gameplay and leadership were instrumental in securing the Championship, marking a historic achievement for the Crusaders.

Nooksack-Valley-Pioneers DEVIN COPPINGER – Nooksack Valley Basketball (SR)

Nooksack Valley senior Devin Coppinger scored 27 points in the Pioneers’ 1A State Championship victory over the Lady Stags of Deer Park. Coppinger, who has committed to play basketball for the University of Washington Huskies next year, also put up 19 points and 8 rebounds in the Semifinals and connected on 24 of her 27 free throw attempts throughout the Tournament.

Garfield Logo KATIE FISO – Garfield Basketball (SR)

Garfield senior Katie Fiso left her mark on the 3A Girls State Basketball Tournament last week, earning MVP honors for the second-straight season. In the Championship game, Fiso showcased her dominance on the court with an outstanding 29 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals, leading Garfield to victory. Her unanimous selection by media members as Tournament MVP came as no surprise, as she averaged 26 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.3 steals across three wins, guiding Garfield to its fourth-consecutive State Title. Fiso plans to continue her athletic and academic career at the University of Oregon next season.

Camas-PapermakersADDISON HARRIS – Camas Basketball (SR)

Addison Harris, a senior forward for the Papermakers of Camas High School, played a pivotal role in securing the program’s first State Title this past weekend. In the words of Tacoma Dome spectator and WIAA great Bryn Langrock, “Harris’ performance was ‘remarkable.’ She led her team with a combination of skill and determination.” Harris averaged 17 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.7 steals across three games, all of which were won by double digits. Trevor Hennig, standout leader of Mount Si’s star-studded syndicate of hoopers, helped the Wildcats reclaim glory in the 4A State Championship Tournament last week. SETH LUSTIG – Colfax Basketball (SR)

Seth Lustig, a senior on the boys basketball team at Colfax High School, showcased precision under pressure throughout his team’s title run in the 2B Boys State Basketball Tournament. In the Championship game, Lustig scored 19 points, converting on all 12 of his shots from the free-throw line. His Semifinal performance was just as notable, as he put up 22 points and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the line. Achieving a 100% free-throw rate for the entire tournament, Lustig’s contributions were pivotal in his team’s success in Spokane.

ZACK MUNOZ – Mossyrock Basketball (SR)


Senior Zack Munoz propelled the Vikings of Mossyrock to the Title game in the 1B Boys State Championship Tournament last week in Spokane. He scored 31 points in his team’s Quarterfinal upset of top-seeded Lummi Nation before posting a double-double in the Semifinals. Munoz’s effort helped the seventh-seeded Vikings place second overall at the Tournament.

Ellensburg-Bulldogs LAYNE ROGEL – Ellensburg Basketball (JR)

Junior forward Layne Rogel, a dominant interior presence for the Bulldog basketball team of Ellensburg High School, helped her squad reach the Finals for the third-consecutive year in the 2A Girls State Basketball Tournament last week in Yakima. She put up double-digits in points in all three of her team’s games, including an 18-point performance in the Bulldogs’ Quarterfinal victory.

ESMERALDA SANCHEZ – Mabton Basketball (JR)

Mabton High School’s Esmeralda Sanchez crakced the 1000-point milestone during her team’s performance at the 1B Girls State Tournament in Spokane last week. With another year left in her high school career, Sanchez looks to build on her junior season and the Vikings’ fourth-place finish.

AMBER SWAN – Neah Bay Basketball (SR)

Standout senior Amber Swan helped anchor Neah Bay’s commanding presence in the 1B Girls State Basketball Tournament last week, capping off back-to-back State Championship Titles. Against Crosspoint, Swan dominated the court with 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists, leading her team in all three categories. Her prowess was on full display again in the championship game against Mount Vernon Christian, as she paced Neah Bay in scoring with 13 points, 11 of which came in a crucial second-half surge. Swan’s ability to step up when it mattered most highlighted her pivotal role in Neah Bay’s success.

DEKKER VAN DE GRAAF – Zillah Basketball (SO)

Dekker Van De Graaf stepped up when the Zillah Leopards needed him most. The sophomore provided an electric performance in the 1A Boys State Title game on Saturday night, scoring 21 points and banking in a put-back two-pointer with under three seconds remaining in the game to give his team the lead. In a back-and-forth contest against Annie Wright, Van De Graaf’s clutch conversion ended up being the difference between cutting down the nets as champions and standing courtside with a second-place trophy in the aftermath of an unforgettable finish.

Ballard-Beavers VIVI CORSINI – Ballard Gymnastics (JR)

Vivi Corsini joined the Ballard gymnastics team this season after a two-year break from the sport and immediately established herself as someone who embraces hard work and the team environment. She fought for a spot in the postseason beam line up on this talented team and was the lead-off competitor on Friday at the 2A/3A State Championships. She had a strong routine on Friday, scored a 9.05 and qualified in the final spot to event finals on Saturday. On Saturday she had an incredibly strong performance for the second day in a row and improved her score to 9.125, good to move up 10 spots for a 6th place State Beam finish.

W.-F.-West-Bearcats JULIA DALAN – W.F. West Basketball (JR)

Junior Julia Dalan, standout center for the Bearcats of W.F. West High School, put up 33 points and 25 rebounds in the Round of 12 on Day 1 of the 2A Girls Basketball State Championship at the Yakima Valley SunDome on Wednesday morning, leading her team to a resounding victory.

Montesano-Bulldogs EVANJILLIE DALAN – Montesano Basketball (SO)

In a pair of District IV victories in the 1A classification, sophomore Evanjillie “Jillie” Dalan averaged 21.5 points and 13 rebounds for Montesano, also racking up 9 steals and 3 blocks.

Tahoma-Bears ADAM DAVIS – Tahoma Basketball (SR)

In the Round of 12 at the 4A State Basketball Tournament in Tacoma on Wednesday night, Adam Davis, senior hooper for the Bears of Tahoma High School, scored 26 points and had 12 rebounds to lead his team to the Quarterfinals. He also went 6-for-6 from behind the three-point line.

Davis-Pirates ESMERALDA GALINDO – Davis Basketball (SR)

In Davis High School’s victory in the Round of 12 this past Tuesday, senior Esmeralda Galindo was heating up from the free throw line, going 12-for-14 from the stripe. She finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds to help take down the defending State Champions.

Arlington-Eagles LEYTON MARTIN – Arlington Basketball (JR)

Junior Leyton Martin broke the Arlington High School individual scoring record with 43 points in a loser-out regional game against league rival Marysville-Getchell this past weekend. He also filled up the stat shee with 5 assists and 3 steals. The Eagles won the game 76-72 in overtime and punched their ticket to the Tacoma Dome.

Raymond-Gulls TRESSA McMULLEN – Raymond Cheerleading (JR)

After several concussions over her high school career, junior Tressa McMullen continues to work to get back to participating. She continues to help in her community roles and will receive the “Big Sister of the Year” award for SW Washington’s Big Brother/Big Sisters organization this week. She serves her team in the captain role. Her joy and smile radiates, making those in the stands smile with her. As an NCA All-American nominee, McMullen represented her team in Orlando this November.

Wellpinit-Redskins JORDAN MONTGOMERY – Wellpinit Basketball (SR)

In the District 7 1B Championship game on Saturday, Wellpinit secured a decisive victory over the visiting Panthers, fueled by an outstanding performance from Jordan Montgomery. Montgomery’s exceptional display, scoring 22 points and securing 16 rebounds, propelled Wellpinit to reclaim their title as back-to-back District Champions. With a remarkable record of 20-2, Montgomery and his teammates continue to showcase their dominance on the basketball court. In addition to his on-court achievements, Montgomery was also honored with the all-opponent award, highlighting his sportsmanship and skill. Beyond his athletic prowess, he is a dedicated honor roll student who is also enrolled in running start, on track to earn his AA Degree upon graduating high school this June. His commitment to excellence both on and off the court is truly commendable and serves as an inspiration to his peers.

Ilwaco-Fishermen SAM NEEDHAM – Ilwaco Basketball (SR)

Senior Sam Needham has been a three-year varsity basketball player at Ilwaco High School. He made all-league as a junior. As a 6’4″ guard/forward, often asked to pull center duties, he has worked hard during his career to constantly get better and make those around him better and to also better himself. Basketball to Needham has been his passion for his entire life. He has solidly averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds per game. This year he helped Ilwaco secure a first-place showing in league as a starter. In the classroom he brings a 3.0 GPA. But it hasn’t always been easy and he, like all student-athletes, has had struggles. But it is through those struggles that he has grown and learned as a young man that life is about appreciating the moments you have.  You can always find him the first to help teammates up off the floor, handing the ball to an official after a loose ball, and cheering his teammates on from the bench when he is out. 

Tumwater-T-Birds OLIVIA RAO – Tumwater Dance/Drill (JR)

As the Kick Captain, junior Olivia Rao led her team to the DTU National Championship where they won the National Championship in the Small Varsity High School Kick category. Rao sustained an injury before the competition but still made the trip. She led her team with great class and selflessness and deserves to be recognized for her outstanding character.

Columbia-Adventist-Academy-Kodiaks TRISTAN WHITE – Columbia Adventist Academy Basketball (SO)

Columbia Adventist Academy sophomore Tristan White scored 27 points and hauled in 19 rebounds against Tulalip Heritage High School at Arlington High School on Feb. 24th. His effort helped secure a win and his team is now off to Spokane for the state tournament.

Seton-Catholic KAIDEN WILSON – Seton Catholic Basketball (FR) 

Freshman Kaiden Wilson, starting guard for the Cougar boys basketball team of Seton Catholic, helped lift his squad into the Quarterfinals of the 1A State Tournament on Wednesday morning, scoring 15 points and snaring 14 rebounds. He also played all 32 hard-fought minutes.

Lake-Stevens-Vikings CAMDEN BLEVINS-MOHR – Lake Stevens Swim & Dive (JR)

At the District 1 Championships this past week, Lake Stevens junior Camden Blevins-Mohr helped lead the Vikings to a third-consecutive District Title, claiming 1st place in the 50 Freestyle with a new school record-setting time of 20.95 seconds and the 100 Fly with a new school and District 1 record-setting time of 49.66, earning All-American Consideration in the process. He was also a member of the Championship-winning 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relay teams, both of which set new school records. This performance was topped seven days later at the 4A State Swim and Dive Championships, Blevins-Mohr won State Titles in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Fly, breaking the school records he’d set the previous week in the district meet. He joined his teammates Coren Coe, Sebastian Erickson, and Sam Lamb to win a State Title in the 200 Freestyle Relay and become the meet’s only three-time gold medalist.

Charles-Wright-Academy-Tarriers PAIGE BRINK – Charles Wright Academy Basketball (SR)

In Charles Wright Academy’s final game of the season, senior Paige Bring scored 20 points and had 15 rebounds in a road victory. Brink has put the team on her back all season, scoring 15.3 points and hauling in 8 rebounds per game. The senior captain has completely turned her career around and after an 0-8 start, leading the team to 7 victories in its final 12 games.

Waterville-Mansfield-Shockers JASMINE GARCIA – Waterville-Mansfield Basketball (SR)

Senior Jasmine Garcia led the Shockers girls basketball team of Waterville-Mansfield to the District Championship last Thursday with 18 points and 5 steals. She was also named league MVP. Garcia, nicknamed “”Jag,”” is the Shockers’ leader in points and steals for the season.

Davenport-Gorillas BROCK GUSTAVESON – Davenport Wrestling (SO)

Sophomore Brock Gustaveson made school history this past weekend in Tacoma, where he won the first-ever wrestling State Title for the Davenport Gorillas. Gustaveson capped off an outstanding season with a 42-2 record and a State Championship medal in the 190-pound weight class at Mat Classic XXXV.

Warden-Cougars MAKENNA KLITZKE – Warden Basketball (FR)

With her team winning both games this week to clinch their spot as league champions, freshman Makenna Klitzke dominated for the Warden Cougars, posting double-digit scoring numbers in both games. In Thursday’s game, she threw up 23 points and went 7-for-7 from the free throw line. On Saturday, she finished with 19 points against Cle Elum-Roslyn. Klitzke has had a sensational season as a freshman leader for her team, which finished second in the 2B District 5 Championship this past weekend.

Warden-Cougars JAKE MCCOY – Pullman Swim & Dive (JR)

Pullman High School’s junior swimmer, Jake McCoy, came home with four medals this past weekend at the 1A/2A Boys Swim & Dive State Championship at the King County Aquatic Center. He won the 200-yard individual medley, took second in the 100-yard backstroke McCoy, and helped his relay team’s take gold in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay races.

Capital-Cougars EZEKIEL MCEWEN – Capital Wrestling (SR)

A two-time State Champion, senior Ezekiel Mcewen of the Caipal Cougars, reclaimed his spot atop the podium this past weekend at Mat Classic XXXV at the Tacoma Dome. Pinning his opponent in the second round, McEwen polished off his career with a record of 138 wins to just six losses, including a 40-1 mark during the 2023-24 season.

Sumner-Spartans CODY MILLER – Sumner Wrestling (SR)

Moments after winning his third State Championship and 143rd-consecutive high school match, Sumner senior Cody Miller bent down to a knee and began undoing the laces on his wrestling shoes. In front of a standing crowd at the Tacoma Dome, Miller placed his shoes in the center of the mat and stood, arms outstretched, facing the bleachers. As the applause died down, he jogged over to shake the hands of his opponent’s coaches one last time, signifying the end of the third-ever undefeated season in WIAA wrestling history.

Moses-Lake-Mavericks ASHLEY NARANJO – Moses Lake Wrestling (SR)

Moses Lake senior Ashley Naranjo finished her third-consecutive undefeated season this past weekend at Mat Classic XXXV in Tacoma, winning the 3A/4A girls 110-pound State Title. Finishing with a career record of 110-0, Naranjo’s victory this past Saturday cemented the second-ever undefeated season in Washington state wrestling history.

Arlington-Eagles KATIE SNOW – Arlington Basketball (SR)

Senior Katie Snow was on fire in Arlington’s semifinal matchup against Lynnwood in the District 1 3A girls basketball tournament. She scored 19 points, had 9 rebounds, and played every minute of her team’s 51-45 victory. Snow plays a low post position and frequently gives up four to six inches in height, but she always holds her own. She’s also ‘A’ student and a gifted soccer player who will be going to Northwest University on scholarship next year.

Sultan-Turks ELI TRICHLER – Sultan Basketball (SR)

Sultan senior hooper Eli Trichler led his team to a runaway win against Eastside Prep on Wednesday, putting up 22 points and 9 rebounds. Trichler then followed up his performance with a 20-point, 11-rebound, 6-assist box score-filler in his team’s winner-to-State game, helping the Turks advance to State for just the third time in school history and the first since 2009.

Orting-Cardinals MADISON WATTS – Orting Wrestling (FR)

Madison Watts is a freshman homeschooler who wrestles for Orting High School. She is the first freshman girl in school history to win the State Title and only the second girl in school history. She has a 4.0 GPA and is taking two honors courses (English, and Biology). She pinned every one of her opponents, from sub-regionals to regionals and, finally, to State. She is an incredibly hard worker and always willing to help her teammates and bring them to the top with her.

Bothell-Cougars CLAIRE ALBRECHT – Bothell Gymnastics (SO)

Claire Albrecht has led the Bothell gymnastics team in scoring this year and qualified to compete at the State Meet on bars, beam and floor. She loves gymnastics and currently coaches at the Northshore Gymnastics Center. When she’s not playing with her dogs, Roxy and Oakley, she studies to maintain her 3.97 GPA. If it’s summer season, she likes anything that has to do with beaches, friends and paddle-boarding.

Curlew-Cougars EMMA BAKER – Curlew Basketball (SR)

This past Tuesday, in a District Playoff Game against Odessa, senior Emma Baker led and carried her team to a win. Curlew, at one point, was down by 11 points in the 2nd quarter. Baker, the only senior on the team, stayed calm and collected throughout the contest. She scored 32 points and had 17 rebounds; however, this doesn’t completely show the impact she had on the game. She shut down the opposing team’s best player in the second half and continually made plays for her team that don’t show up on the stat sheet. Baker has done this all year long, remaining a humble and supportive leader of her team. She cheers louder for her teammates than anyone else in the gym. She’s proven herself as one of the best — yet most humble — player in the entire league.

Toppenish-Wildcats RUBY CLARK – Toppenish Wrestling (SR)

Senior Ruby Clark has dominated all season long, posting a record of 30-1 and pinning her way through every tournament. Recently, she collected her 100th career win at the PAC Coast tournament. Throughout the 2023-24 wrestling season, she has placed 1st at Gutcheck, Takedowns and Tiaras, Reno TOC, PAC Coast, and, most recently, the sub-regionals Tournament. Clark has beaten past State participants and placers, along with a State Champion and looks to finish her career at Toppenish with a second State Championship. She is a role model in the wrestling room, supporting her teammates and making sure everyone is ready to compete.

Yelm-Tornados MADISYN ERICKSON – Yelm Wrestling (SR)

Yelm senior Madisyn Erickson won her bracket in her sub-regionals tournament for the third year in a row. She has won every tournament she has wrestled in this season, including Gut Check and Kelso. She’s undefeated again this year heading into Mat Classic with a season record of 42-0 and 39 pins. Erickson is working towards her second State Championship this year as a senior. She’s an amazing athlete, a great leader to her teammates, and constantly pushing herself to be better than she was the day before. For the past three years, she was voted by Yelm School District as Female Athlete of the Year as well.

Squalicum-Storm DYLAN FISK – Squalicum Swimming & Diving (SO)

At the 2A District One Swim and Dive Tournament, sophomore Dylan Fisk won two individual and two relay district titles. He took first in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, for both of which he currently holds the school record . He also helped his relay teams to first-place finishes in the 400 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay. Overall, Fisk helped lead Squalicum to a third-place team finish. He’s also an exceptional student, boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Redmond-Mustangs COLE McINTIRE – Redmond Swimming & Diving (SR)

Senior Cole McIntire won the District 2 Diving Meet with 415.85 points just a week after winning the Kingco League meet with 436.90 points. He has taken first place in every dual meet this season and is sure to be one of the favorites at the State Meet this week. McIntire is an incredibly hard worker and leads by example for those around him. He also has a very positive attitude and outlook on his endeavors.

Mead-Panthers JOSH NEIWERT – Mead Wrestling (SR)

Josh Neiwert, senior wrestler for the Panthers of Mead High School, won the 132-pound title in the 3A Region 4 Tournament this past weekend, going 4-0. He won in dominating fashion, earning two first-period falls and a pair of major decisions. Neiwert has amassed an impressive 38-0 record this season and has been a leader in the wrestling room. He is the defending 132-pound State Champion in the 3A classification and has reached the State Finals in each of his previous two seasons. He also won the 2023 Tri-State Title and was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler after finishing off a come-from-behind victory over a returning national finalist. He puts his heart into the sport and is more than deserving of this award.

Rogers-(Spokane)-Pirates EMILY PEABODY – Rogers Basketball (SR)

Emily Peabody has been a rock for the Rogers High School girls basketball team all season. She has set the single-game scoring record twice, putting up 42 points against West Valley and 45 points against East Valley on this past Friday. Peabody has also set a new single-season scoring record with 428 points to date. On top of her amazing performances on the court, she carries a 4.024 weighted GPA through several Advanced Placement and honors classes. In addition to those accolades, Peabody is active in her school’s ASB leadership class and played a major part in the Spokane Public School’s opening of ONE Spokane Stadium (in partnership with the Public Facilities District). The senior is a rock star in her school and thoroughly admired by her peers.

vAdna-Pirates BRAEDEN SALME – Adna Basketball (SR)

A four-year starter and All-League player, Braeden Salme broke his foot in practice the first week of the 2023-24 season, requiring him to get surgery miss the first eight weeks of the season. After easing him back into the lineup over the final two weeks of the regular season with limited minutes, he showed he was back and on a mission last week in Adna’s district win over Ocosta, scoring 23 points with 6 rebounds and 3 assists, before putting up 37 points and dishing out 9 assists in an upset over top-seeded Ilwaco. His resiliency and leadership, despite the injury setback, has been tremendous all season long.

vLakeside-(Nine-Mile-Falls)-Eagles KONNOR SPRADLING – Lakeside Wrestling (JR)

Lakeside junior Konnor Spradling completed a district and regional sweep this past weekend, winning all of his matches over the past two weeks of competition to take the number-one seed into State. He has not lost a match in over two months and passed the career 100-win mark in late January.

Oroville-Hornets SHILOH WILLIS – Oroville Wrestling (FR)

Last season, as an 8th-grade wrestler, freshman Shiloh Willis amassed an 18-3 win-loss record, with most of the girls she wrestled being in the 9th-12th grade. Her season ended abruptly with a serious injury that required surgery. Willis rehabbed, lifted weights, and attended a wrestling camp this past summer. This season, she has put together a 31-6 record, bolstered by a second-place finish at her regional tournament to advance to Mat Classic. In doing so, she defeated a girl who had dominated her earlier in the season.

Almira-Coulee-Hartline-Warriors EVERETT WOOD – Almira Coulee Hartline Wrestling (SR)

Senior Everett Wood won a regional championship on Saturday with an opening-round pin and two wins over ranked opponents. The three wins in the tournament gave Wood 30 wins on the season and pushed him over the 100-win mark for his career, making him only the second Warrior wrestler to ever reach that milestone. He is a running start student and will be Salutatorian for his graduating class. This weekend, he will be making his third trip to the Mat Classic State Championships.”

Cashmere-Bulldogs ELLIE BESSONETTE – Cashmere Basketball (JR)

Junior Ellie Bessonette has paced the #11 Cashmere Bulldogs, averaging almost 15 points and 8 rebounds a game to go with 3 steals and 3 assists. Most recently she scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, complemented by 6 steals and 3 assists in a game against rival Chelan to capture the regular season Caribou Trail League title.

Bear-Creek-Grizzlies CALEB BRANCH – The Bear Creek School Basketball (SO)

Tuesday, January 30, in The Bear Creek School’s win over Cedar Park Christian, Caleb Branch, a sophomore shooting guard, had 35 points and made 10 three-point shots. He went 10-for-17 from behind the arc and shot 100% from the free throw line. He added 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block. This performance tied the school record for both points (35) and made three-point shots (10).

Napavine-Tigers JAMES GROSE – Napavine Basketball (SR)

Against Adna High School on January 30, senior James Grose scored 28 points with 5 rebounds and 4 assists, shooting 54% from the field. In this matchup, he also reached the 2,000 point scoring milestone! On Senior Night against Morton-White Pass, he scored 36 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists, shooting 61% from the field. For the week he was also a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Naselle-Comets AUBREY KATYRYNIUM – Naselle-Grays River Valley Basketball (FR)

Freshman Aubrey Katyrynium had a breakout week. She was a pivotal player for all three of Naselle-Grays River Valley’s games this past week. She ended the week with 84 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists, 15 steals and 5 blocked shots. Katyrynium has been having a stellar season as a freshman power forward for the team.

Skyline-Spartans TERRY LEE – Skyline Swimming & Diving (JR)

Terry Lee, a junior at Skyline High School, secured his personal best time last weekend in the 100m breaststroke, earned first place in the 200m freestyle, and achieved a school and Kingco record at the Kingco Meet. Lee qualified for three individual 4A State Events and contributed to his team qualifying for three 4A State Relays. Lee has helped support the team with undefeated results, going 7-0 and heading to the 4A State Championship. He embodies sportsmanship and positive character while competing for the Skyline swim team.

Crescent-Loggers LUKAS LOVE – Crescent Basketball (SR)

Senior Lukas Love averaged 20.5 points and 15.5 rebounds per game in leading the Crescent High School Logger basketball team to a pair of league wins, helping the 16-2 Loggers clinch a playoff spot.

Walla-Walla-Blue-Devils CARTER O’DELL – Walla Walla Wrestling (SR)

Senior Carter O’Dell has placed 1st at several tournaments throughout the season and two within the past week. His record is 37-5, and he placed 1st at the Rumble in the Valley, and took the 1st Place Championship at the MCC 3A Sub-Regionals on February 3. Carter was also nominated and won “Student of the Month” for January at Walla Walla High School and exemplifies positive characteristics both in academics and on the wrestling mat.

Auburn-Trojans MARY RUSH – Auburn Wrestling (SR)

Over the past week, Auburn Trojan senior Mary Rush won the 120-pound weight class at the NPSL League Tournament, winning all of her matches by fall. This is her fourth year in a row becoming League Champion. This is her 8th tournament victory of the 2023-24 season. Rush’s overall season record is 31-3 with 29 wins by pins. She earned the 100 Career Wins award last weekend with a career record of 128-23 and 108 pins.

Grandview-Greyhounds JULIAN SANCHEZ – Grandview Wrestling (SR)

Senior Julian Sanchez capped off his league season last week, going 6-0 in league duels and winning the District Championship at 144 pounds. He breezed through the district tournament with only one opponent scoring a point on him. His season record, including the district tournament, is 35-10. Sanchez is a State Title contender and is looking to make some noise at this year’s Mat Classic.

Senior Elizabeth Vasquez has taken on a huge leadership role this year. She very quickly learned a new stunting position and is the main base in our stunt group. R.A Long recently won 1st place in Small Non-Tumbling Traditional and qualified for both Small Game Day and Traditional at WSCCA Last Chance Qualifiers. Vasquez does a fantastic job keeping the cheer team motivated, and the team has learned many new stunts this season. Vasquez is always up for a challenge and is an amazing teammate at R.A Long.

Curtis-Vikings SIERRA WANGEN – Curtis Wrestling (SR)

At the SPSL Girls Championships this past weekend, Senior Sierra Wangen was named SPSL Wrestler of the Year for the second year in a row. Wangen also won the 135-pound weight class at the league meet, putting her at a 45-0 record this season, with 44 pins and 1 tech fall. Wangen has won every meet she has attended this season. Throughout the 2023-24 season, Wangen has beaten several State placers, as she works towards winning a second State Championship. Wangen is a leader on her team, always supporting her team and bringing positivity to every meet and practice, pushing every girl to do her best.

Ilwaco-Fishermen MIKAILA WARFIELD – Ilwaco Basketball (FR)

In Ilwaco High School’s first round district game on Saturday, freshman Mikaila Warfield led Ilwaco in scoring with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 8 steals helping them to a 58-41 win over Onalaska. The week before, Warfield put up 40 points and 25 rebounds against league rival Chief Leschi.

Rainier-Mountaineers KEIRA ANDERSON – Rainier Wrestling (JR)

Keira Anderson finished the regular season with a championship win at Relentless VII, pinning her way to a first-place medal. This marks back-to-back weeks of championships victories for Anderson and the sixth time the junior has made a tournament finals match this season. She’s compiled a 25-10 season record while leading the Rainier girls wrestling team on the mat and in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA. Anderson looks to make a return to the Tacoma Dome for the State Tournament, with postseason play beginning this week.

Stevenson-Bulldogs CHRIS BLACKLEDGE – Stevenson Basketball (SR)

After shutdowns last week due to inclement weather, the Stevenson boys basketball team had two make-up games this past week, resulting in four total games with just two practices. Thanks in large part to performances by senior Chris Blackledge, the Bulldogs managed a 4-0 record through that stretch, including a big win against La Center, whom Stevenson hadn’t beaten since 2011. Blackledge started off the week a little slow offensively in his team’s road win against King’s Way Christian, but he did other things to help his team win, including controlling the ball all game as the team’s point guard. In the second game, at home against rival Columbia (White Salmon), Blackledge helped his team take a 49-14 lead into halftime, hitting five three pointers to finish the half with 22 points. His night was cut short because of the score, but he ended the game with 28 points despite not playing the fourth quarter at all. On Friday against La Center, Stevenson found itself down 23-11 at the end of the first quarter. Then, Blackledge took the game over, scoring 35 points en route to a 13-point road victory. To finish the week off, the Bulldogs played Castle Rock at home. Blackledge took this game over early and ended up hitting 10 three pointers to finish the game with 38 points, again missing most of the 4th quarter because of the score. This week was just one more bright spot in what has been a special season. He does a lot for the team, controlling the offense, rebounding, and dishing out assists for this team.

Centralia-Tigers JESUS CAMPOS – Centralia Wrestling (SR)

Centralia senior Jesus Campos has won every tournament that he has attended in Washington state this year. He is 30-0 this year in Washington, winning four Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament awards this year. Campos has also been a straight-A student this year. He finished 2nd in State last year, and 3rd the year before.

Granger-Spartans JULIAN CASTRO – Granger Basketball (JR)

Julian Castro has been putting up numbers for the Granger High School boys basketball team. As a junior, he has helped his team to victory by scoring 40 and 31 points in back-to-back games to go alongside a 50-piece earlier in the season.

Spanaway-Lake-Sentinels ALAINA DEGENSTEIN – Spanaway Lake Bowling (JR)

Junior Alaina Degenstein helped lead the Spanaway Lake bowling team to its third-straight West Central District 3 Title, bowling well enough to be the top bowler at the 3A Tournament. She carried the day with a 617 series score (205 average) and continued to help her team through the Baker games. Degenstein has persevered this season and shown that she can lead her team to victory on the lanes. She is the strong, quiet leader that all coaches want and a tremendous pleasure to coach.

Todd-Beamer-Titans ANNIKA DUCKWORTH – Todd Beamer Cheerleading (SO)

Annika Duckworth is a sophomore who is not only on the Todd Beamer Varsity and Competition Cheerleading Team, but is also very involved in school activities, including ASB Leadership, Honor Society, Key Club and other volunteer activities, where she works with local elementary school students. Duckworth is a 4.0 student, taking Honors Classes and planning to start Running Start next year. She is the President of the Technology Association Club and on the Principal’s Advisory. She is a Back Spot on the cheer Elite Stunt Group and helps teach routines and cheers to the Varsity and JV Teams. She is a natural leader and very organized, possesings a great amount of empathy, earning a tremendous amount of respect from her teammates. She is such a thoughtful, caring and exceptional person. She is not only a great leader on the cheer team and at Todd Beamer, but she also a great leader in the community. She is an advocate for girls and truly believes in empowering them in pursuing whatever it is they want to do.

Sammamish-Redhawks SOPHIA EASTMAN – Sammamish Basketball (SO)

Sophia Eastman scored 29 points in Sammamish’s win over the second place Foster Bulldogs. She also just surpassed 730 career points to become the all-time scorer in Sammamish basketball history. Only a sophomore, Eastman is on pace to have well over 1500 career points by the time she graduates.

Woodinville-FalconsJAECY EGGERS – Woodinville Basketball (SR)

Senior Jaecy Eggers had an amazing week, leading Woodinville to three wins to complete their Kingco 4A regular season undefeated. She had 21 points and 11 rebounds against Newport on Monday, scored 14 points with 7 rebounds Wednesday against Inglemoor, and capped the week with another 21 points and 11 rebounds Friday against Redmond. She shot 68% from the field throughout the week, tallying 9 assists, 7 steals, and 6 blocks. Most impressively, she went over the 1,000 point mark for her career.

Naselle-Comets JACOB LINDSTROM – Naselle Basketball (JR)

On Wednesday, January 24, junior guard Jacob Lindstrom had 35 points, 6 assists, and 2 steals in Naselle’s 85-44 win over league rival Firm Foundation. Two nights later, Lindstrom scored 29 points and snagged 8 rebounds in a 56-48 win against Willipa Valley. He then turned around the next night and poured in 30 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists in his team’s victory over Winlock, leading the Comets to a 16-2 overall record and first-place Columbia Valley League record of 12-1.

Odessa-Tigers HAYDEN SCHUH – Odessa Basketball (SR)

Hayden Schuh, a senior at Odessa High School, is rounding out her five-year basketball career, having scored over 700 points to date. She started her time with the Tigers as an 8th-grader, when she was selected to play up to the high school level. This season alone she has amassed 228 points, her best season yet, and still has at least four games left to play. Schuh is equally competitive as a rebounder, earning a total of 465 combined offensive/defensive rebounds, her highest also coming this season at 145 so far. Schuh has earned Max Preps Player of the Game honors six times this season, notching 9 double-doubles so far. She is an excellent all-around player and very fun to watch.

Bethel-Bison EARLE TAYLOR – Bethel Wrestling (FR)

Bethel freshman Earle Taylor is 31-8 this season, currently ranked fourth in the state’s 4A division. Accumulating many bonus points for his team, Taylor has dominated with 21 pins on the season. He finished this week with a pin against Rogers High School, ending his league record at 7-0 with six pins in a very strong SPSL division. Defeating returning state participants and placers, the freshman is looking to continue his success heading into this postseason.

Wapato-Wolves TRINITY WHEELER – Wapato Basketball (JR)

Junior Trinity Wheeler surpassed the 1000-point mark on January 27 in only her third varsity year. She currently leads the 1A SCAC in scoring with 286 points for an average of 17.9 points per game. Wheeler leads the Wapato girls basketball team in scoring and assists, guiding her squad to a top-two ranking in the state, according to WIAA RPI.

Aberdeen-Bobcats FELICIA BELL – Aberdeen Wrestling (JR)

Over the past week, Aberdeen junior Felicia Bell won the 125-pound weight class at the Lads and Lasses Tournament at Fife High School, winning all of her matches by fall or technical fall. During the week, she won all three of her dual matches by pin as well and ended the weekend by taking first place at the River Ridge Rumble at River Ridge High School.

Quincy-Jackrabbits PIERCE BIERLINK – Quincy Basketball (SO)

Pierce Bierlink, a sophomore point guard at Quincy High School, led his team to two wins last week. Tuesday night, he scored 41 points and made 11 three-pointers to go with 8 assists and 5 rebounds. On Thursday, he had 14 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. His 11 three-pointers are second in school history in a single game.

Okanogan-Bulldogs JACEY BOESEL -Okanogan Basketball (SO)

Last week, Jacey Boesel averaged 24 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 5.7 steals in three girls basketball wins for the Lady Bulldogs of Okanogan High School.

Interlake-Saints SHELTON HENTON – Interlake Basketball (JR)

Junior Shelton Henton broke Interlake High School’s 31-year-old single-game scoring mark with 45 points (and 11 rebounds) in the Saints’ win over Kent-Meridian. Henton followed that up with 32 points and 13 rebounds in a huge upset win over 3A KingCo-leading Liberty of Seattle, who had been previously undefeated in conference play.

Graham-Kapowsin-Eagles JACKSON LOSEE – Graham-Kapowsin (JR)

Jackson Losee is currently 32-7 this season and just two wins shy of his 100th-career high school victory. A junior at Graham-Kapowsin, Losee is currently ranked seventh in the 4A 126-pound weight class. He was a State participant his freshman year before placing placed 8th in the 4A classification’s 113-pound weight class as a sophomore at last year’s Mat Classic. This week, Losee went 6-0 and won the WIAA Bearcat Invite, beating a returning State participant and returning State placer in the process. Throughout the season, Losee has placed 2nd at White River Classic, 2nd at Muilenburg in Oregon, 7th at Pac Coast, 4th at Hammerhead, and 3rd at the Viking Invite.

Grace-Academy-Eagles CANDICE MUGO-WAINAINA – Grace Academy Basketball (SR)

Senior Candice Mugo-Wainaina is a pivotal leader on the Grace Academy basketball team. As a senior and captain, many of the younger athletes look to her for leadership. This past week she helped lead the team to two victories and did all she could to help her team stay afloat in a difficult loss. She dislocated her shoulder just after Christmas, but has been committed to stretching and strength building. She had 16 points against Shoreline Christian, 19 points against Providence Christian, and 19 points against Sound Christian. She continues to lead the team in rebounds and assists as well.

Davis-Pirates GRACIE PHAM – Davis Wrestling (SR)

Davis High School senior Gracie Pham currently maintains a 3.988 GPA. As a member of the WIAA LEAP committee and the captain of her wrestling team, she serves as a role model in and outside of school. So far this season, Pham has placed 2nd at Gut Check, 2nd at Hammerhead, and 1st at the Davis invite. She also placed 3rd at State last year. With a season record of 27-6, Pham is working hard to reach her goal of becoming a State Champ.

Willapa-Valley-Vikings TYSON PORTMANN – Willapa Valley Wrestling (SR)

Tyson Portmann of the Willap Valley wrestling team won his fourth tournament of the season this past weekend, despite starting the season late on account of a broken leg he suffered during football in the fall. He earned his 100th win in this weekend’s tournament, the Doug Makaiwi Memorial Invite, in Raymond, Washington. Portmann has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout all four years of his high school career.

Oakville-Acorns COURTNEY PRICE – Oakville Basketball (SR)

Senior Courtney Price reached 1000 career points at Oakville High School on Thursday, Jan 18. He is an amazing leader on campus and has really shown great maturity in working with the underclassmen. He is a member of Oakville’s FFA program and a top leader in the senior class. He had 19 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals, and 4 blocks against Taholah; 22 points, 20 rebounds,1 assist, 4 steals, and 4 blocks against Wishkah Valley; and 23 points, 21 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks against Lake Quinault.

Sedro-Woolley-Cubs JULIAN RODRIGUEZ-PADILLA – Sedro-Woolley Wrestling (SR)

Senior Julian Rodriguez-Padilla is a two-time State placer and is currently 31-3 on the season. He took 2nd at the Spud Walley Invite, 2nd at the Hammerhead Invite, 2nd at the Ray Westberg Invite, and 1st at the Bearcat Invite, going 8-0 at the Oregon Duals. Rodriguez-Padilla is an impressive 14-0 in Sedro-Woolley’s dual meets this season.

Ingraham-Rams FINLEY SPRINGER – Ingraham Gymnastics (SO)

As a sophomore, Finley Springer has placed on the podium in every week of the 2023-24 season. She earned a perfect score (8.8/8.8) on vault on January 12 and an 8.7/8.8 this past week. She consistently scores above 9.0s on floor, scoring a 9.6/10 on January 19. As a freshman, Finley Springer made it to the State Gymnastics Tournament in three of her four events and was awarded “”Rookie of the Year”” by her team and coaches. Not only is she an accomplished all-around high school gymnast, she also made it to state as a first-year diver in the fall and took 3rd at the State Swim & Dive Tournament. She is an absolute joy to have on the team and an incredibly hard worker, maintaining a 3.74 GPA.

Royal-Knights EMMA VILLA – Royal Wrestling (SR)

Royal senior Emma Villa has placed in the top three at Mat Classic every year of her high school career. She is ranked #1 in the state at 170 pounds and has won every tournament this season by pin in the first round. With a record of 28-0, Villa has already won the Outstanding Wrestler award twice this year. Not only is she having a great season, she is also such a leader in the wrestling room, always going out of her way to help her teammates. She will often stay after practice to help girls make weight or help them with a move they are having trouble with.

Issaquah-Eagles AARON VIET ANH BELL – Issaquah Swim & Dive (SO)

As a rising sophomore at Issaquah High school, Aaron Bell has secured three individual State cuts in the 50 free, 100 free, and the 100 back. In addition, he helped his team secure the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay State cuts. Bell also demonstrates great sportsmanship by being supportive to his teammates and respectful to his coaches. He is working hard in maintaining good grades and cutting times in the pool. When he is not swimming or studying, he enjoys playing video games with his teammates and the violin and piano for his family. He is also an active youth volunteer for the City of Issaquah.

Liberty Christian (Walla Walla) Patriots ALI BUSH – Liberty Christian Basketball (SR)

In last Saturday’s game against Waitsburg, senior Ali Bush made 11 three-point shots, setting a new Liberty Christian school record. She finished with 37 points in the game, which put her third on the single-game scoring list in the history of the program.

Wahkiakum-Mules ZAKKARY CARLSON – Wahkiakum Basketball (SR)

In a game for the Wahkiakum Mules last week, senior Zakkary Carlson scored his 1,000th career point. He has been averaging 22 points per game this season and has helped lead his team to a number of hard-fought victories. Carlson has been a varsity athlete since freshman year and continues to be a standout player.

Anacortes-Seahawks TRINITY ERICKSON – Anacortes Bowling (JR)

Anacortes junior Trinity Erickson has shown amazing growth this season. When she started bowling during the 2021-22 season, her game average was  77, and her highest score was 100. This year, her average is up to 140, and she bowled a 224 during competition this week. She is consistently trying to improve and never misses practice.

Kelso-Hilanders KAMIAH GAERLAN – Kelso Wrestling (SO)

In only her sophomore season, Kelso’s Kamiah Gaerlan took 1st at the War of the Roses, 2nd at Hammerhead, 2nd at Yelm Girls, and 3rd at Kelso’s Braided 64. She was also Top-8 at the Sierra Nevada Classic. Gaerlan, who helps mentor younger wrestlers and maintains excellent grades, is a year-round wrestler, competing at Fargo this past summer.

Lindbergh-Eagles JAMES HUFF – Lindbergh Basketball (SO)

Sophomore James Huff led the Lindbergh Eagles basketball team to three consecutive victories this past week. In a 56-42 victory over Hazen High School on January 6, Huff led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds. On January 9, he followed up this performance with 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals in a 74-50 victory over Evergreen. On January 12, Huff once again filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks in a 61-44 victory over Highline High School. He continues to be a leader on and off the court, inspiring his coaches with his continued growth.

Meridian-Trojans GISELL JIMENEZ – Meridian Bowling (SR)

Gisell Jimenez is a four-year letterer in bowling. This is her second year as team captain, and she is the anchor to the bowling team at Meridian High School. In the past four matches, Jimenez has a 1,153 total pin count, good for a 144-pin game average. She led the Trojans to four straight wins, helping to improve the team record to 8-4 on the year. She led the Trojans to a school record 1,660 total pin count and 158-pin average in a recent match. Outside of bowling, Gisell is in band, pep band, jazz band, and the color guard. She is a leader on her team and an inspiration to everyone she meets, especially her coaches.

Marysville-Pilchuck COLE JONES-LONGSTREET – Marysville-Pilchuck Wrestling (SO)

Marysville-Pilchuck sophomore Cole Jones-Longstreet was selected as Outstanding Wrestler of the Paul Reinmen Duals in Mount Vernon this past week, winning all six of his matches by pin. Four of the pins took place within the first 28 seconds of the match. Jones-Longstreet’s total wrestling time for all four matches was just 7 minutes and 39 seconds. He displayed commendable sportsmanship before, during, and after each match, along with encouraging his teammates.

Klahowya-Eagles ELI KRAFT – Klahowya Basketball (SR)

Senior Eli Kraft had a solid week, amassing 59 points on 46-percent shooting, grabbing 35 rebounds, dishing out 12 assists, and coming away with 9 steals and 5 blocks in three games of play for the Eagles of Klahowya. He put on a gritty performance in a victory over Vashon Island, scoring a season-high 33 points with 14 rebounds from the point guard position.

Washington-Patriots JASMYN SHARP – Washington Bowling (SR)

Senior Jasmyn Sharp led the Washington High School bowling team to their second League Title in just four years. She set a new school record with a two-game series point total of 388 (208, 180), marking the third-highest total in league history. Her score of 388 was the top mark of all schools that competed that day.

Reardan-Screaming-Eagles CHASYN WATERS – Reardan Basketball (8TH)

Last week, Chasyn Waters averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists per game to lead the Reardan Screaming Eagles to back-to-back victories.

Lake-Stevens-Vikings KYLEE WICKLUND – Lake Stevens Wrestling (FR)

Freshman Kylee Wicklund led the Lake Stevens girls wrestling team to a first-place finish in the Marysville Ladies Premier dual tournament, winning all of her matches by fall. Earlier in the week, she defeated both of her opponents in a home match to improve her season record to 27-4, with all of her wins coming by pin. In additon, Wicklund is an ‘A’ student and outstanding team member, earning the honor of team captain this past week.

Davis-Pirates JACOB ALCALA – Davis Wrestling (JR)

Junior wrestler Jacob Alcala is a role model of a student-athlete, both inside the halls of Davis High School and out. He is a hard-working individual who’s passing all his classes as he works toward his goal of becoming a State Champion. So far in the 2023-24 season, he’s compiled a record of 24-2, placing 1st at the Davis Invite and 3rd at both the Gut Check and Hammerhead tournaments, two of the toughest wrestling events in the state.

Fort-Vancouver-Trappers BRYCE BOLINGER – Fort Vancouver Wrestling (JR)

Fort Vancouver’s Bryce Bolinger began his wrestling career last year as a sophomore, when his season got cut unceremoniously short by a fractured spine. This year, Bolinger returned to the mat and, after his first several matches ended in defeat, got his first varsity win this past week, setting the tone for Fort Vancouver’s 43-36 win over Columbia.

Castle-Rock-Rockets MASON DARVELL – Castle Rock Wrestling (SO)

Castle Rock sophomore Mason Darvell is a committed year-round wrestler with a handful of tournament wins already this season. He dedicates himself to the sport and volunteers his time helping to develop the youth program and bulid the school’s new wrestling room. Darvell is also a committed student, earning a 4.0 GPA for his freshman year and maintaining those grades so far as a sophomore.

Wellpinit-Redskins RAYAH HILL – Wellpinit Basketball (JR)

Rayah Hill had 24 points in our season-opener against Inchelium on 8 three-pointers. She has continued to work hard, scoring 22 against O’Dea to go with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. She has now scored 10 or more points in five consecutive games. Her points-per-game total continues to rise with each game she plays and now sits at 14.3 for the 2023-24 season. As a junior, Hill’s attitude and leadership is always positive, making her an effective team captain. She is also a running start student and maintains a 3.8 GPA, reflecting her dedication to her schooling.

Forks-Spartans KEIRA JOHNSON – Forks Basketball (SR)

Senior Keira Johnson broke the Forks High School girls basketball program record for total career points after a 26-point game against Lummi Nation. Since that game, Johnson has rattled off three straight games with over 30 points, improving her season points-per-game average to over 25 on the season while also leading the team in rebounds and steals.

Hanford-Falcons LYNNEA MORAN – Hanford Basketball (SR)

On January 2, 2024, Hanford senior Lynnea Moran broke her school’s all-time single-game scoring record that had stood for 30 years. Moran and the Falcons had traveled to Hermiston to face the Bulldogs in a conference matchup. In that game, Moran would score 36 points to break the record! She is a 4.0 student, tremendous athlete and even better young lady.

La-Conner-Braves BRAYDEN PEDROZA – La Conner Basketball (JR)

Junior guard Brayden Pedroza currently averages 21.6 points in 30 minutes per game. The La Conner standout put up games of 22 and 27 last week against Concrete and Sound Christian.

Squalicum-Storm ISABELLA PHILLIPS – Squalicum Wrestling (SR)

Senior Isabella Phillips took 1st place at the Braided 64 Girls Wrestling Tournament in Kelso, Washington this past week. In doing so, beating last year’s State Champion from Oregon in the finals match. She currently holds an undefeated 16-0 record for the 2023-24 season.

Wahluke-Warriors ANGELA SANTIAGO – Wahluke Wrestling (SR)

Wahluke senior Angela Santiago is an exemplary student-athlete. A running start student, she maintains a 3.99 GPA and plans to attend the University of Washington to become a nuerosurgeon after high school. She is also an outstanding athlete, dedicating time and energy to her team and herself. Her small consistent habits have been paying off, resulting in a record of 16 wins and just 4 losses. She placed 1st at the Tony Saldivar Ironman Girls Tournament and the Sedro Woolley Girls Tournament. She also took 3rd at the Kennewick Tournament.

ODea-Fighting-Irish JACK SKARDA – O’Dea Swim & Dive (SR)

On Saturday, January 6, senior Jack Skarda competed brilliantly at the 2024 Kentridge Invitational in Federal Way. In a competition that featured 42 teams from Washington, Skarda won two individual events — the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Breast — and earned State-Qualifying time standards in both. He also helped two fast relays qualify for State in the 200 Medley and 400 Free. On the nationally recognized NISCA Powerpoint scale, Skarda scored 282 points to finish first among all of the competing athletes. He is a humble champion and inspires others with his leadership.

Oak-Harbor-Wildcats SUKI WARDEN – Oak Harbor Basketball (SO)

Sophomore Suki Warden continues to flood the columns of the Oak Harbor High School statbook, putting up 27 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block against Ferndale last week. She also scored the game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, where she scored 6 more points to help secure the win.

Washington-School-for-the-Deaf-Terriers KWABENA WHITE-STAR – Washington School for the Deaf Basketball (SR)

Washington School for the Deaf senior Kwabena White-Star put together some impressive double-double statistics in two games this past week. He scored a season-high 29 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, secured 2 steals, and had 2 blocks against Three Rivers Christian School, shooting 85-percent from from the paint in the process. In a close loss to defending 1B District Four Champion, Willapa Valley, meanwhile, he scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds with a 57-percent from the paint.

North-Thurston-Rams RAY ADAMS – North Thurston Basketball (SR)

Senior Ray Adams led the North Thurston Rams to three wins in three days, as they brought home the championship trophy at the Fort Vancouver Holiday Invitational. In the first game, Adams posted a tremendous stat line of 21 points, 15 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists, while also hitting a buzzer beating 35-foot three-pointer to lift North Thurston to a 56-55 win over Walla Walla. On day two, the senior once again led the Rams with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, as they knocked of Mountain View 67-43. Then, in the tournament finale, he posted another double-double with 14 points,13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, as the Rams defeated Puyallup for the tournament championship.

Kings-Knights KALEO ANDERSON – King’s Basketball (SO)

King’s sophomore Kaleo Anderson compiled the following statistics against larger schools this past week in the Top of the Peak Tournament at Glacier Peak on December 27-29: 32 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists against Lake City; 29 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals against Glacier peak; Arlington, 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals against Arlington.

Grandview-Greyhounds EVAN BENITEZ – Grandview Wrestling (SR)

Over the past two weeks, Grandview senior Evan Benitez has put together some exceptional wrestling performances. On December 16 at North Idaho College, he won the 126-pound championship at the Tri-State Wrestling Tournament, known for its extreme competitiveness and size. He entered his bracked as the 5-seed before beating previous State Champions on his way to becoming champion. The following week, he participated at the PAC Coast Championships in Vancouver, Washington and won the 64-man bracket at 126 pounds. He beat a national Greco and returning high school State Champion from Oregon in the finals. Benitez is a two-time state finalist with goals to win a state title this coming February. Coach Eric Meza is proud of his hard work on and off the mat.

Quilcene-Rangers TAYLOR BOLING – Quilcene Basketball (JR)

Junior Taylor Boling is the leading scorer for the Quilcene School, averaging 26 points per game, including 72 points over his past two games. He plays post, averaging 16 rebounds per game, and his defense is excellent. Boling is a leader on the court, supporting his teammates and encouraging them to work together.

Southridge-Suns LEXI GIDEON – Southridge Wrestling (JR)

Junior Lexi Gideon, standout wrestler for the Suns of Southridge High School, had another tremendous week. She went undefeated with four wins to take first place at the Hanford Winter Cup Tournament.

North-Creek-Jaguars MIKAH HAMMERQUIST – North Creek Basketball (SR)

Mikah Hammerquist, senior hooper out of North Creek High School, had 24 pts, 7 three-pointers, 4 steals and 4 assists in a win over Mount Rainer this past Thursday. Then, on Saturday, she broke her own single-game record for three-point shots made with 10 buckets from beyond the arc. She finished with a career high 32 points, 8 assists, 2 rebounds and 4 steals.

Kettle-Falls-Bulldogs ANNA HUME – Kettle Falls Wrestling (SR)

This past week, Kettle Falls senior wrestler Anna Hume won both the Newport Women’s Border Battle and Central Valley Tri-Country Classic in the 135-pound bracket, improving her record to an impressive 17-0 for the year. As the girls team captain, she is always working on recruiting additional girls to the team and supporting younger girls in the local developmental programs. She has also been a State medalist in the past two 2B track meets in the 100m hurdles and triple jump. She is a leader in her high school, serving as ASB president while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. In the summer, she contributes to her community by growing produce that is distributed to local food banks through the Northeast Washington Hunger Coalition.

Lummi-Nation-Blackhawks JEMMA JAMES – Lummi Nation Basketball (FR)

Jemma James is the starting point guard for the Lummi Nation Lady Blackhawks, averaging 23 points per game during the 2023-24 season as a freshman. In a game last month, she scored 40 points, with 24 of them coming from beyond the three-point line. Her vision of the court and the way she can control the game is so impressive.

Othello-Huskies JOSHUA TOVAR – Othello Basketball (SR)

Othello senior Joshua Tovar compiled some impressive statistics in two games last week, putting up 28 points, 5 assists and 4 steals against Warden to go alongside 30 points, 5 assists and 4 steals against 3A North Central. On the season, Tovar is averaging 24.8 points, 4 assists and 2.7 steals per game with a 36.5 shooting percentage from behind the three-point line.

Ilwaco-Fishermen BECKETT TURNER – Ilwaco Basketball (SR)

Senior Beckett Turner led the Ilwaco basketball team to wins over Stevenson and King’s Way Christian to win the Ilwaco Holiday Tournament this past weekend. In a 55-38 victory over Stevenson, Beckett had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists, all while playing stellar defense and holding his opposition to just 5 points individually. In his team’s 59-42 win against King’s Way, Beckett exploded for 39 points, scoring multiple times in the post while knocking down 5 three-pointers, also securing 9 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists.

Curtis-Vikings CLARISSA WANGEN – Curtis Wrestling (SR)

Senior two-time defending State Champ Clarissa Wangen has maintained an undefeated record so far this season. She pinned her way through a 32-person bracket at the Pac Coast Meet, topping it off by pinning another State Champ in the finals in just 54 seconds. Wangen is always there for her teammates to help them improve and make sure they’re aware of what is going on at every meet.

Toppenish-Wildcats JUSTYCE ZUNIGA – Toppenish Wrestling (SO)

A returning State Champ, sophomore wrestler Justyce Zuniga started his season at Kennewick’s Invite by taking first place, beating the 2023 2A State runner-up from last year with a first-round pin. He recently traveled out of state to wrestle at RTOC, a tournament that brings in some of the toughest high school wrestlers in the country. Zuniga took fourth-place, losing close matches to highly ranked wrestlers from across the U.S. Still only a sophomore, Zuniga has been listed as honorable mention in SBLIVE’s national top-25 wrestling rankings in the 126-pound division. He also carries a 3.96 GPA, demonstrating the true importance of being a student-athlete and leader. He sets a high standard for younger wrestlers both on and off the mat.”

Castle-Rock-Rockets SKYLAR AMMONS – Castle Rock Wrestling (SR)

Skylar Ammons, a senior wrestler for the Rockets of Castle Rock, took first place at the La Center Invite this past weekend, pinning a 2023 State placer in the finals. Ammons is 10-0 on the season and a two-time returning State wrestler.

Wapato-Wolves JORDAN ESPINOZA – Wapato Basketball (SR)

Wapato senior Jordan Espinoza had a game-high 22 points and game-winning shot against Mabton last week. He also posted a game-high 21 points against cross-town rival Toppenish.

Moses-Lake-Christian-Covenant-Christian-Lions JOHNNY FERGUSON – Moses Lake Christian Academy Basketball (SO)

Johnny Ferguson, sophomore at Moses Lake Christian Academy, has been off to a strong start in 2023, putting up three straight games with 20 or more points. In his first year as a full-time starter, Ferguson has been lights out to begin the season.

Northwest-Yeshiva PAULINA GAMEL – Northwest Yeshiva Basketball (JR)

The Northwest Yeshiva girls basketball team played its first three games of the season this past week. In those three contests, junior Paulina Gamel scored 25, 24, and 30 points respectively. She is the Lions’ junior captain, playing with great tenacity. She is an amazing student-athlete who lifts up her teammates.

Central-Valley-Bears LUCY HE – Central Valley Gymnastics (SR)

Central Valley senior Lucy He is an outstanding student-athlete. As a senior, she is involved in multiple clubs and activities outside of school and gymnastics. She has been a 4.0 student throughout high school, taking over 10 advanced placement college courses. Additionally, she is the co-captain of her schools’ cyber security training program, co-captain of the gymnastics team, mayor of Justice Society of America, and the founder of Central Valley High School’s Sisters in STEM club. In the spring, she pole vaults and hurdles for Central Valley.

Gig-Harbor-Tides GRANT HUSTON – Gig Harbor Swimming & Diving (SR)

Through Gig Harbor’s first two meets of the season, senior Grant Huston has qualified for the Swim & Dive State Championship Meet in two events. During the first meet of the season, Huston qualified for the 100 Freestyle with a winning time of 47.88. At last Thursday’s meet against Central Kitsap, he qualified for State in the 200 Freestyle event with a winning time of 1:44.96. Huston remains undefeated in his individual events for the 2023-24 season.

Black-Hills-Wolves SLOANE KRUGER – Black Hills Wrestling (JR)

Junior Sloane Kruger is now 12-0 on the young season. The junior from Black Hills High School has already won the Yelm Tournament, Takedowns and Tiaras, and the Hammerhead Invitational. She also wrestled 105 Girls and 106 Boys at the Black Hills/Shelton Double Duals, winning both by pin. She offers coaching and support at her teammates’ matches, both boys and girls.

Mount-Rainier-Rams ZACH LUZ – Mount Rainier Basketball (SR)

Through the start of the 2023-24 basketball season, Mount Rainier senior Zach Luz has averaged nearly a double-double, averaging 30.7 points and 9.5 rebounds, alongside nearly four steals per contest. Luz shoots approximately 60 percent from the field and leads the team in rebounds, steals, points, deflections, steal-to-turnover ratio, and steal-to-foul ratio. In addition to his on-court prowess, he has become the quintessential leader of the Mount Rainier basketball team and is well liked by his peers, which speaks volumes about his character. In Luz’s most recent game against Chief Sealth, he was the fire to the team’s flame, extinguished only by his early departure due to the lopsided score. In the three quarters he played, he recorded a double-double, scoring 39 points on 15-for-17 shooting from the field and snagging 11 rebounds. He also tallied 4 deflections, 2 assists, and a steal. Luz is the epitome of student-athlete development, leadership, and commitment to excellence, both on and off the court. This senior leader is an inspiration to his coaching staff!

Freeman-Scotties CHLOE MYERS – Freeman Cheerleading (SR)

Senior Chloe Myers has been in cheer since she was five years old and now hopes to continue that path into college. She’s been on her high school team for three years and is currently captain. Myers participates as a side base but can also fly when her team needs her to do so. This summer, she volunteered at the fair circuit as Princess of the SE Spokane County Fair. She represents her community in multiple communities by participating in parades and taking pictures with children and fans, earning the honor of most inspirational from the SE Spokane County Fair board. On top of all that, she was on competition team through Spotlight Studios in Hayden, ID, where she was also a team captain. She’s also a part of the running start program at Freeman High School, having achieved honor roll at both SFCC and Freeman High School. When she graduates this year, she will finish high school with a diploma and her AA. She just got officially signed with Notre Dame College’s Tumbling & Acrobatics team in Cleveland, Ohio for next year.

Lakes-Lancers SAMARA OLIVER – Lakes Basketball (JR)

Junior Samara Oliver led the Lakes Lancers in their win against the Tigers of Stadium High School, scoring 21 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists to go with 7 steals and 3 blocks on the defensive side of the ball. She also led her team to a win against Silas with 16 points, 3 Assists, 10 Rebounds and 5 steals.

Rainier-Mountaineers ZANDER PECK – Rainier Wrestling (JR)

Rainier junior Zander Peck won the 30th La Center Wildcat Invitational this past Saturday, going 4-0 against opponents from larger classification schools with 3 pins, including one in the first round of the championship match. Peck also won his dual match against the 3A State runner-up from last season with a 3rd round pin. He put together an impressive 5-0 record in the second week of season competition against opponents from larger classification schools.

Granger-Spartans KIARA TORRES – Granger Wrestling (JR)

A returning State placer, junior Kiara Torres pinned her way through the Granger Ironman Tournament, taking first place and winning the Outstanding Wrestler Award in the girls division at 105 pounds.

Northport-Mustangs PETER BEARDSLEE – Northport Basketball (SO)

During the Northport boys basketball team’s overtime win against Medical Lake last week, sophomore Pete Beardsee scored 38 of his team’s 75 total points. He also went 17 for 17 from the free throw line.

Foster-Bulldogs ARIYANA DELONEY – Foster Basketball (SO)

Sophomore Ariyana Deloney led the Foster basketball team to two wins and a loss this past week. Deloney scored a season high 35 points and snagged 12 rebounds in to help beat Renton 73-35, notching her second double-double in the Bulldogs’ first five games. In a close loss to Sammamish, meanwhile, she scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Later, Deloney led all scorers on the court with 27 points to lead Foster over Chief Sealth, 55-39. She added six rebounds, six steals, and six assists, as she hustled up and down the hardwood. With 82 points on the week, she improved her season average to 24.1 ppg, all while carrying a 3.83 GPA.

Squalicum-Storm DYLAN FISK – Squalicum Swim & Dive (SO)

Sophomore swimmer Dylan Fisk has started off his season strong. Over the past week, he has qualified for the State Meet in three individual events, breaking the school 100 butterfly record in the process. On December 5, Fisk won the 100m butterfly by 9 seconds with a 2A State-Qualifying time and a new school record. He was also a part of two winning relay teams that helped Squalicum beat Anacortes for the first time in 10 years. In the same meet, Fisk captured a 2A District-Qualifying time in the 100m breaststroke. His dominant performance inspired his teammates to drop times and finish in key positions to propel Squalicum to the win.

Columbia-(Burbank)-Coyotes GRACIE GUNTER – Columbia High School Cheerleading (SR)

Columbia High School senior cheerleader Gracie Gunter has been on the cheer team for the past four years. Cheering for both the football and basketball seasons, she is also a running start student, senior class vice president, and a member of ASB. She is dedicated, works hard, and always has a smile on her face. She made All-American Cheer through UCA this past summer and will be performing in The London Day Parade in London, UK. She truly loves to perform for the crowd.

Naselle-Comets BRIANNA JOHNSON – Naselle-Grays River Valley School Basketball (FR)

Naselle-Grays River Valley freshman Brianna Johnson was pulled up to varsity last year as an 8th grader. In that time, she was used as a back-up guard for her team’s starting five. This year, she has been excelled in her role as the Comets’ main starting point guard. Having never played in this role, Johnson has continued to find her comfort zone over the first four games of the season. In Naselle-Grays River Valley’s game last Wednesday against Kalama, she had a breakout game, scoring 18 points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line, 3-for-3 from the floor, and 3-for-4 from the foul line. She had four steals, five assists and three rebounds. This breakout game is going to be a great building point for her as she continues this season and for the next three years. She is a tremendous student-athlete and works hard both in the classroom and on the floor.

White-Swan-Cougars URIEL LOPEZ – White Swan Wrestling (SO)

Sophomore wrestler Uriel Lopez finished first at the Tony Salvador Iron Man Invitational on December 9 in Granger. He also took first at the Pioneer Invitational Tournament in Omak on December 2. He currently has a record of 6-0.

Bellevue-Christian-Vikings OLIVIA REYNOLDS – Bellevue Christian Basketball (SO)

Bellevue Christian Sophomore Olivia Reynolds had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals in a 55-53 victory over Seattle Academy this past week. To go with her on-court prowess, Reynolds is a team captain and 4.0 student.

Tenino-Beavers NOAH SCHOW – Tenino Basketball (JR)

Junior Noah Schow topped 30 points in all three of his team’s games this past week. On Tuesday, Schow had 30 points and 9 rebounds against Toutle Lake. On Friday, he had 33 points and 16 rebounds in a win against Black Hills. Teh junior followed that up less than 24 hours later with 35 points and 10 rebounds in a win over East Jefferson on Saturday. Over the thre games this past week, Schow averaged 32.7 points per game and 11.7 rebounds per game.

Tahoma-Bears JOE SULLIVAN – Tahoma Wrestling (SR)

Tahoma High School senior Joe Sullivan had a phenomenal week, capping it off with a tournament victory at the Edmonds Woodway Invite. Sullivan won the 144-pound bracket, going 5-0 with four pins and a major decision. That brings his overall high school record to 75-11. A Tahoma team captain, Sullivan carries a 3.77 GPA, demonstrating the true importance of being a student-athlete and leader. He sets a high standard for younger wrestlers both on and off the mat. Sullivan is the kind of young man that every coach wants to lead their program.

Mount-Vernon-Bulldogs QUINN SWANSON – Mount Vernon Basketball (SR)

Quinn Swanson broke the all-time single-game scoring record for Mount Vernon High School this past week, dropping 47 points in a win against Mount Baker. In the same game, Swanson also had 16 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals. On Monday, in a win against Jackson, he had 14 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals. Friday, in a blowout win against Burlington-Edison, he had 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Nathan-Hale-Raiders ALICE WEINSTEIN – Nathan Hale Gymnastics (SR)

In her second year as captain for the Nathan Hale gymnastics team, senior Alice Weinstein continues to lead her teammates by example. Weinstein has not missed a day of practice this season and gives it her all every day. She will be a fourth-year varsity letter earner this year and started the season strong as the highest all-around scorer for Hale at their first meet. Later in the season, she hopes to qualify for the State Championships. Her friendliness is so contagious that, alongside her own teammates, other teams cheer for her by name (and she cheers back)! In her free time, she coaches gymnastics for younger athletes at a nearby club.

Sumner-Spartans ABBY WORHATCH – Sumner Wrestling (FR)

Sumner freshman Abby Worhatch won first place at 125 pounds in the War of the Roses Tournament in Portland this past weekend. Worhatch went 5-0 with four pins and helped her team wrestle to a fifth-place finish out of 34 teams.”

OMARION BOSTON – Lincoln Basketball (SR)

Lincoln basketball senior Omarion Boston is off to a fast start in the 2023-24 season. In the Abes’ win over the Eagles of Federal Way, Boston had 32 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Abes.

MALEEYAH FULGHUM – Washington Bowling (SR)

Senior Maleeyah Fulghum has improved immensely as a bowler and a teammate this season. She has already bowled two games over 200 with the latest one matching the SPSL 2A district season high of 213. She has helped lead the Washington Lady Pats to a 4-0 record, first place in their league, which is the best start to a season in school history.

JADA HERNANDEZ – Warden Wrestling (SR)

Senior Jada Hernandez, wrestler for the Cougars of Warden High School, has started the 2023 season with a 4-0 record, including three pins and a win over last year’s State Champion.

Crosspoint Warriors MOMOYO IWATA – Crosspoint Basketball (SO)

Crosspoint sophomore Momoyo Iwata led the Crosspoint basketball attack in a 47-37 victory over the Bremerton Knights, a 2A squad. A 5’7″ sophmore guard, Iwata paced the Warriors with a triple-double, notching 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 steals, while adding six assists. She is a stellar student and enjoys spending time with her teammates.

Eastmont-Wildcats NOELIA JOHNSON – Eastmont Basketball (SO)

Noelia Johnson is full of energy on offense and defense. In Eastmont’s game against Hanford on 11/30, she shot 9-for-11 from the field, scoring 21 points. She also added seven steals, five deflections, and seven rebounds and took a huge charge in the second half of the game.

REX LARSON – Anacortes Football (SR)

Senior Rex Larson quarterbacked the 2A State Champion Anacortes football team this past Saturday at Husky Stadium. At one point, the Tumwater defense forced Anacortes into a seemingly impossible third-and-39, which the Seahawks converted with a 47-yard back-breaker from Larson to Rylin Lang. In total, Anacortes gained 552 yards, just 48 off of the 2A State Title game record. Larson stole the show, throwing for 346 yards on 26-of-34 passing, with four touchdowns. He completed passes to four different Seahawk receivers — four of whom caught at least four passes.

JESSE LEWIS – Lake Stevens Football (SR)

Lake Stevens’s senior wide receiver Jesse Lewis showed up big time in the Vikings’ 4A State Championship victory over the Eagles of Graham-Kapowsin. Lewis finished the game with two touchdowns and 102 yards receiving, adding seven tackles on defense. For his efforts, Lewis earned Co-Player of the Game honors at Husky Stadium.

Hoquiam LINCOLN NIEMI – Hoquiam Basketball (FR)

In his varsity debut on November 29, freshman Lincoln Niemi had an amazing performance, helping Hoquiam come away with a 78-65 win over Willapa Valley. Niemi had 42 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. He shot 9-16 from the three point line and was 17-31 overall from the field.

LENA PUZ – Vashon Island Wrestling (SO)

Sophomore Lena Puz won the Return of the Seahawk, Chief Sealth, Tournament, pinning all of her opponents en route to the title, helping the Pirates to a fourth-place team finish. She is undefeated on the year, with every victory coming by way of pin.

BUDDY SMEENK – Sunnyside Christian Basketball (SR)

Sunnyside Christian senior Buddy Smeenk started the season with 39 points in a hard-fought game against the Granger Spartans. The game was tied at 53-53 with 5.1 seconds left in the game. The ball was inbounded to Smeenk, who crossed over from left to right to hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to win the game 56-53.

ZACH SWANSON – Toutle Lake Basketball (SR)

Senior Zach Swanson, premier scorer for the Fighting Duck basketball team of Toutle Lake, has already accomplished a rare feat in his final high school season. On November 27, in a game against Elma, just a week into the regular season, he scored his 2,000th career point, putting him in rare company in Washington state high school basketball.

Bonney-Lake-Panthers JAYDEN THAYER – Bonney Lake Bowling (FR)

Bonney Lake freshman Jayden Thayer is an accomplished bowler who has taken on a strong leadership role for this new team. She is helpful with the improvement of her teammates and shows great care in each game. She currently sits in third place in the league and has been a major role in her team’s victories.

Royal-Knights LANCE ALLRED – Royal Football (JR)

Lance Allred, junior quarterback and linebacker for the Knights football team of Royal High School, has put together quite an impressive season heading into the 1A State Championship Football Game. In last weekend’s Semifinal matchup against Seton Catholic, he completed 8 of 12 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown, carrying the ball 11 times for 75 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, Allred added eight tackles to propel his squad to a 42-0 victory and shot at another State Title.

KOOPER CLARK – Tumwater Football (SR)

Tumwater senior Kooper Clark scored three touchdowns and rushed for 250 yards in last weekend’s 2A State Semifinal matchup, carrying a heavy offensive workload for the Thunderbirds. In a game that ended in a 19-17 victory over North Kitsap, Clark’s contributions paved the way for a trip to Husky Stadium and a shot at a 2A State Title for the T-Birds.

Chiawana-Riverhawks ALYSSA DUNSTAN – Chiawana Cheerleading (SR)

Alyssa Dunstan is a 4.0 running start student at Chiawana High School. She is the senior class vice president, a member of homecoming royalty, and a captain of the varsity cheer team. Last year, her cheer team won the WIAA State Cheerleading Tournament, and they will be competing again this year. Outside of school, she coaches gymnastics and is the reigning Miss Juneteenth Queen. Dunstan also participates in various community service events and is a leader among her school and team.

Columbia-River-Rapids KYLIE HARDS – Columbia River Bowling (SR)

Senior Kylie Hards bowled six strikes in a row and finished with a game-high point total of 213 to lead Columbia River to victory over Ridgefield last week. She is a great competitor and leader and carries a contagious enthusiasm throughout each match, establishing an atmosphere of success and enjoyment for her teammates.

Napavine-Tigers CONNER HOLMES – Napavine Football (SR)

Napavine’s Conner Holmes has had an amazing senior season full of trials and tribulations. In the second game of the 2023 season, Holmes injured his hamstring and was out for nearly five weeks, only managing to make his comeback over the past three weeks. Then, in last Saturday’s 2B Semifinal matchup with Onalaska, Holmes had seven catches for 201 yards and two touchdowns, converting several first-downs in crucial moments along the way. He has been consistent as a receiver and has also had multiple interceptions throughout the season on defense, including several pick-sixes. He is always supportive to his team and helps foster the growth of younger teammates, working hard every day to help his team get to where they are today, fighting for a back-to-back State Title.

Woodinville-Falcons TOSIA JASZCZAK FOLLEHR – Woodinville Cheerleading (JR)

Woodinville junior cheerleader Tosia Jaszczak Follehr has already accomplished so much in her limited time on the team, exceeding expectations in almost every aspect of the sport, constantly getting better. Her strongest skill is in stunts; as a flyer, she works well with any group she’s out there with, fights through any challenges thrown at her, and never backs down to a hard or dangerous stunt, earning the nickname “”Miss Fearless.”” Jaszczak Follehr most recently was nominated as an All-American at last summer’s NCA camp for this exact reason. She takes what little feedback is offered to her and uses it to improve her technique. Her sharp motions and loud voice are never missed, and, overall, she’s one of the most prominent mentors to her teammates.

Wilbur-Creston-Wildcats KALLEN MAIOHO – Wilbur-Creston-Keller Football (JR)

Junior quarterback and defensive back Kallen Maioho helped lead the Wildcats of Wilbur-Creston-Keller to a 66-22 Semifinal victory over the Mossyrock Vikings this past weekend. Maioho completed 8 of his 9 passes for 233 yards and 4 touchdowns, rushing for another 53 yards on 9 carries. Defensively, he totaled 3 solo tackles, 11 assists, and an interception.

Liberty-Bell-Mountain-Lions LUCIEN PAZ – Liberty Bell Football (JR)

Liberty Bell High School junior Lucien Paz has put together an astounding season for the Mountain Lions. In the 2023 season, Paz has thrown for 1764 yards, completing over 70% of his passes with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 33-to-2. He’s added another 838 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground, combining for 48 scores this fall.

Yelm-Tornados BRAYDEN PLATT – Yelm Football (SR)

Yelm senior Brayden Platt solidified the Tornadoes’ spot in the 3A State Football Championship game in last weekend’s 7-0 Semifinal victory over Eastside Catholic. In the third quarter, Platt scampered for a 54-yard touchdown run down the right sideline, which turned out to be the game’s only score. He finished the game with 209 yards on 29 carries.

Gig-Harbor-Tides CAILYN SMITH – Gig Harbor Dance/Drill (SR)

Gig Harbor Dance/Drill senior Cailyn Smith is an absolute force of talent on her team, demonstrating an unmatched level of dedication. As a fourth-year member of H2Whoa, Gig Harbor’s esteemed dance squad, she is thriving in her role as team captain. She consistently builds up her teammates and ensures everyone around her feels supported on the squad. Smith’s enthusiasm has lit a fire under all of her teammates as they enter competition season.

Castle-Rock-Rockets TENLEY WALLING – Castle Rock Cheerleading (SR)

Senior Tenley Walling has been on the Castle Rock cheer team for four years now and never stops striving to be her best. She shines in the school with good grades and works so hard to do her best and give a great performance, even on a rough day. Walling has a strong passion for cheer and is always pushing herself to be better than the day before.

Columbia-(Burbank)-Coyotes SADI WEBB-SAFFORD – Columbia Cheerleading (SR)

Sadi Webb-Safford has cheered all four years at Columbia High School. From keeping her grades up to leading her peers, she can always be seen with a smile on her face, demonstrating the true meaning of being a cheerleader. Webb-Safford has made All-American Cheer through UCA during every summer camp she has attended and was able to attend Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor Parade last year, representing her district. She plans to continue her cheer career at the college level after high school graduation.

Wenatchee-Panthers AVA JO BERRY – Wenatchee Volleyball (JR)

Junior Ava Jo Berry has been a fantastic athlete and teammate the Wenatchee volleyball team. She has been a varsity starter for the past three season and a captain in 2023, earning the honor of Big 9 Player of the Year as a setter. She led the team in aces, assists, and serving runs, all while orchestrating an amazing offense. In the State Championship Final, she had 52 assists, two kills, and an ace. She is fantastic teammate and student, involving herself in school clubs and participating on the track team in the spring.

La-Center-Wildcats SHAELA BRADLEY – La Center Soccer (SR)

In the La Center soccer team’s State Playoff game against Meridian, senior Shaela Bradley scored three goals to complete a hat trick. In the quarterfinal game against Cashmere, she scored the game-winner to lock up a spot in the WIAA 1A State Semifinals.

Wilbur-Creston-Wildcats KALUB DREGER – Wilbur-Creston-Keller Football (SR)

Wilbur-Creston-Keller senior running back Kalub Dreger helped lead the Wildcats to a 98-44 Quarterfinal victory over Naselle in Moses Lake. The senior speedster rushed for 396 yards on 18 carries, scoring six touchdowns. He had scoring runs of 88, 75, 55, 45, 38, and 4 yards. Defensively, he recorded two solo tackles and three assists.

Sehome-Mariners MADISON ‘MADI’ FERRARI – Sehome Swimming & Diving (SR)

Madison Ferrari, senior diver from Sehome, placed 3rd at the Girls’ 2A State Dive Championships last weekend. The judges and crowd bore witness to an athlete who missed her first three dives, regained her focus, and steadily climbed from 19th to 3rd across eight dives, pulling off an exceptional comeback rarely seen in the world of diving. Ferrari has persevered through hardship over the past month, not only fulfilling her role as a captain, but demonstrating a level of strength and grace rarely seen in an individual her age. She has always been a light on her team and an excellent role model to the younger divers, but her performance this year is worth recognizing twice for what it took to get there. Ferrari’s State comeback win represented who she is as an athlete, teammate, and individual: strong beyond measure, kind to her core, and one of the most determined athletes her coaches have had the pleasure of knowing.

Seton-Catholic KOLTEN GESSER – Seton Catholic Football (SO)

During the first round of the 1A Football State Playoffs, sophomore quarterback Kolten Gesser led the Seton Catholic Cougars to a 56-48 victory. He completed 13 of 17 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns.

Adna-Pirates AVERY HAGSETH – Adna Cheerleading (SR)

Senior cheerleader Avery Hagseth has adopted the role of student-athlete-coach over the past two years. She helps plan practices, teach material, and choreograph dances, all while holding down the role of her team’s main flyer. She loves cheer and her teammates. She’s not only respected by her teammates, but by the whole student body. She is genuinely kind, helpful and understanding, also maintaining exceptional grades. She is role model for our community.

Lynden-Lions BRANT HEPPNER – Lynden Football (JR)

Junior Brant Heppner had his first 300-yard game this past week against North Kitsap. He went 12-for-19 for 323 yds and three touchdowns. As a junior captain, he’s been a great leader, taking a Lynden team that graduated 18 starters from last year to the 2A State Football Quarterfinals, where his team fell in overtime to a very respectable North Kitsap squad — one that Heppner helped beat last year in the State Championship game.

Waterville-Mansfield-Shockers TIERA MILLER – Waterville-Mansfield Volleyball (SR)

Senior Captain and Waterville-Mansfield team MVP Tiera Miller has been a powerhouse all season. Over the course of the 1B Playoffs, she was a huge asset to her team, both offensively and defensively. She plays the net very well and is very strategic in her ball placement. Miller had beefy statlines throughout her team’s postseason run, holding down the service line with authority. Miller also covers well and has had upwards of 27 total digs and 16 aces in one week. She has a positive attitude and is always encouraging her teammates as well, demonstrating her leadership on and off the court.

Onalaska-Loggers KAYDEN MOZINGO – Onalaska Football (SR)

Senior Kayden Mozingo put up unbelievable statistics this past Friday night, leading Onalaska into the 2B State Football Semifinals with a 60-40 victory over Kalama. He rushed 36 times for a school record 471 yards — breaking the previous record by 100 yards — and scored five touchdowns. Throughout 2023, Mozingo has rushed for 2103 yards on 177 attempts, averaging 11.88 yards per carry and scoring 29 touchdowns. He has also passed for seven more touchdowns.

Skyline-Spartans ASHLEY RONI – Skyline Soccer (SR)

After scoring in the Semifinal game, senior Ashley Roni scored Skyline’s lone goal in regulation of the 4A Girls Soccer State Championship Final. Roni then executed her penalty kick perfectly to bring her team their second State Championship in a row. She has scored in every single game of 2023, bringing her season total to 29 goals and 10 assists. She currently holds Skyline’s record for points in a season, goals in a season, points in a career, goals in a career, most goals in a game, and most hat tricks in a career. She will be heading off to the University of Alabama in January to play Division 1 soccer — but before that, she’ll take part in the High School All-American soccer game.

Lynnwood-Royals CHARLIE THOMAS – Lynnwood Volleyball (SR)

Charlie Thomas, senior starter for the Royals volleyball team of Lynnwood High School, earned First-Team All-Wecso honors as a setter. As team captain, she also led the Lynnwood High School volleyball team to a third-place finish in the 3A State Volleyball Tournament.

Mead-Panthers BRIELLE WILSON – Mead Volleyball (SR)

Senior Brielle Wilson played a critical role in Mead High School’s first-place finish at the 3A State Volleyball Tournament this past weekend. Wilson averaged 12 assists per set at the State Tournament, distributing the ball in an evenly led attack. Her team went undefeated during League and postseason play, finishing the year as League, Regional and State champs.

Sunnyside-Grizzlies ETHAN AVALOS – Sunnyside Football (JR)

In his last game versus Gonzaga Prep, junior Ethan Avalos contributed to his team by completing 35 of 58 passes, throwing for 379 yards and three touchdown passes. Avalos also had one rushing touchdown — his first of the season.

Lake-Washington-Kangaroos KAYLEIGH-SHAY CHANG – Lake Washington Volleyball (SR)

Lake Washington senior co-captain Kayleigh-Shay Chang, KingCo First-Team award-winner and conference MVP, helped lead the Kangaroo volleyball team to its first-ever regular season conference co-championship, League Tournament Championship, and 3A District Championship. According to MaxPreps, Chang finished the season as the 3A leader in aces and assists, placing second in all classifications for aces. Chang recently officially signed with Central Washington University to play volleyball in college. This season, she earned back-to-back nods as Kang of the Year for the Lake Washington Kangaroos.

Sunnyside-Grizzlies PAYTON DAVIS – Oakesdale Volleyball (SR)

This past Thursday, the Oakesdale Nighthawks clenched their third consecutive 1B Volleyball State Championship. Payton Davis, a senior outside hitter, has been a pivotal, six-rotation starter for the Hawks since her eighth-grade year. Over the past five seasons, she has done whatever it takes for her team to rise to the top, even committing to playing setter and middle hitter, both of which were new to her. The lady Hawks have been undefeated in league play for the past four seasons, and Davis was named to the All-Opponent team in each of those years. In 2023, she earned Player of the Year in the Wheat Division, along with the Best and Brightest award, All-Region recognition, and an All-American Honorable Mention, as named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In the five-set 1B State Semifinal match, she achieved a career high of 43 kills with a .571 hitting percentage to secure the win and move the Hawks into the Championship match. In the Finals, she led both teams with another 25 kills to take the State Title. On November 8, Davis officially signed her letter of Intent to continue her volleyball career at Central Washington University in the fall of 2024.

Clarkston-Bantams GRAYCE GRAHAM – Clarkston Swim & Dive (SO)

Clarkston’s Grayce Graham gained speed throughout her sophomore season, earning time drops at almost every meet and swimming personal bests in most. After competing against only herself at districts in the adaptive heat, she went on to compete at State two weeks later against five other swimmers. She dropped five seconds off her time in the adaptive 50 freestyle, going from a 48- to a 43-second mark and placing first in her heat to become the State Champion in the adaptive 50 freestyle. She then swam the adaptive 50 back and dropped three seconds off her previous time to place second overall. She has shown so much improvement and works hard for it everyday at practice, all with a positive attitude.

Goldendale-Timberwolves MATTHEW GRAY – Goldendale Football (JR)

In first round of the 2B State Playoffs, junior Matthew Gray led the Timberwolves of Goldendale to a 67-22 victory over the Bears of Brewster. Gray rushed for 345 yards on 23 attempts, scored two touchdowns, and accumulated six tackles on defense. After racking upf 332 yards against Columbia-Burbank in the EWAC District Crossover the week before, he has now rushed for 677 yards over the past two playoff games. Gray’s efforts have propelled Goldendale football to its first-ever competition in the second round of State Football.

Chelan-Mountain-Goats BRYNN HUGHBANKS – Chelan Volleyball (SO)

Sophomore Brynn Hughbanks led the Goats of Chelan to their fourth-consecutive State Championship in volleyball this past weekend, leading her team in digs and kills over four State Tournament games. The sophomore has never lost a match in the Tournament and is in the running for Player of the Year, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

Auburn-Riverside-Ravens AVA LEAR – Auburn Riverside Swim & Dive (SR)

Auburn Riverside senior Ava Lear just capped off an amazing high school career as the 3A State Champion in diving, breaking the long-time school record for Auburn Riverside High School in the process. Lear set her goals early and never waivered throughout the process. She’s an amazing athlete and an amazing young woman.

Archbishop-Murphy-Wildcats SAMI MANDEVILLE – Archbishop Murphy Swim & Dive (JR)

Archbishop Murphy junior Samantha (Sami) Mandeville won the 1A/2A Girls Diving Championship over the weekend with an astonishing 19.5-point margin of victory over her closest competitor. She was the top seed throughout the tournament and completed a phenomenal season in dominant fashion. She is a two-time District 1 Champion, finishing in second place at State last season. Mandeville also maintains a 3.5 GPA while taking multiple Advanced Placement classes. She’s also an active member of her community, completing over 65 service hours to those in need. According to her teachers, Mandeville is a dedicated student who works hard inside and outside the classroom.

Chimacum-Cowboys REID MARTIN – Chimacum Tennis (SR)

Chimacum senior Reid Martin completed a stellar 2023 tennis season, winning the Nisqually League and District 3 Tennis Singles Title. He qualified for the 1A State Tennis Tournament for the second consecutive year, where he finished fifth in doubles last May. Voted the Most Valuable Player by his tennis teammates, this outstanding scholar also represents his classmates on the Chimacum School Board. Martin is also a trombone player in the school band and the Port Townsend Summer Band. This spring on the track team, he will attempt to defend his Nisqually League District 3 javelin title. A soft-spoken 12-year attendee of Chimacum schools, Martin is much admired by faculty and students alike.

North-Creek-Jaguars QUINCY MORAN – North Creek Volleyball (SR)

Senior Quincy Moran is the captain of the North Creek volleyball team and an example of passion and leadership. She’s a four-year letter winner who recently committed to play at Eastern Washington in the fall. Moran has a way of bringing out the very best in the rest of her team, acting as a coach on the floo and communicating expectations to the team. Her ability to refocus herself while positively encouraging her teammates is immeasurable. Moran finished the season (pre-State Tournament) with a 36.8 hitting percentage and, ranking first in Kingco, second in 4A, and eighth in the entire state. She had 226 regular season kills and another 101 in the postseason, ranking second in Kingco, fourth in 4A, and 20th in the state overall. In 2023, she was named team captain, earning Team MVP, the North Creek Coaches Award, Kingco League MVP, All-Academic status, and five separate MaxPreps’ Player of the Match awards.

Almira-Coulee-Hartline-Warriors CARTER PITTS – Almira Coulee Hartline Football (JR)

On Saturday, junior Carter Pitts led the Almira Coulee Hartline offense to a 42-26 victory in the First Round of the State Football Playoffs, scoring four touchdowns and amassing 245 yards of total offense. Pitts rushed for 217 yards on 36 carries while hauling in three passes for 28 yards. The three-sport athlete also chipped in on the defensive side of the ball from the linebacker position as the Warrior defense held strong against the potent Concrete rushing attack.

Northwest-Christian-(Colbert)-Crusaders CLAIRE WICHMAN – Northwest Christian (Colbert) Soccer (FR)

Northwest Christian freshman Clair Wichman had an amazing week in two State Playoff games, scoring two goals in the First Round against Mabton and then a hat-trick in the Quarterfinal game against the higher-seeded Highland. She created scoring opportunities for herself, battling through a very physical game. One of the shots in the quarterfinal was a beautiful goal from 25 yards out. She continues to be one of the best goal-scorers in the state.

Ephrata-Tigers BENJAMIN BELINO – Ephrata Cross Country (SR)

Following surgery to have his left leg amputated below the knees, senior Ben Belino was motivated to get back to sports any way he could. A year later, this past Saturday, he won the WIAA State Cross Country Wheelchair Championship in a time of 12:38. This is Belino’s fifth individual State Championship after winning four WIAA State Titles last spring in the State Track & Field wheelchair events. While the championships are a great achievement, the Ephrata community has been so inspired by Belino’s determination, resilience, and positivity throughout this whole experience.

vVernon ALEXA BROWN – Mount Vernon Christian Soccer (SO)

As the Mount Vernon Christian soccer team enters the postseason, sophomore Alexa Brown continues to elevate her game, propelling the Hurricanes into the number seven seed for the 1B/2B State Tournament. Against Evergreen Lutheran in a loser-out match, she scored a goal to contribute to a 2-0 win, leading us into the Bi-District Championship game against Crosspoint. In the championship game she scored two goals, helped out defensively, and narrowly missed a game-tying set-piece goal off the crossbar in the waning seconds of the game. Her effort on the field this past week was an example for the rest of the MVC players, elevating their level of play en route to another State Tournament qualification. On top of everything, Brown is the leading scorer in Skagit County for all classifications. She also excels in the classroom and is just a wonderful young lady and a pleasure to coach.

Toledo-Riverhawks ETHEN CARVER – Toledo Football (SR)

Facing off against Raymond South-Bend in a district crossover matchup, Toledo senior Ethen Carver carried the ball 22 times, accumulating a remarkable 226 rushing yards. With his team down 14-7 at the half, Carver scored two touchdowns to kickstart a stretch of 29 unanswered points for the Riverhawks, securing the victory and a berth to the 2B State Playoffs. Friday’s performance brings Carver’s rushing total to an impressive 1475 yards on the season.

Toledo-Riverhawks LAURYN COLEMAN – Lakeside Volleyball (SO)

Sophomore Lauryn Coleman earned First-Team All-Metro honors in 2023 and led the Lakeside Lions volleyball team to a district bid this week, despite losing seven varsity players from last year. This week, Coleman set a new season record with 20 kills against Garfield, tallying almost 50 kills total over the four-game Metro League Tournament stretch, also contributing a plethora of game-changing blocks, digs, and aces. Currently on the STEM honors track in school, she maintains a 3.95 GPA and is in her sixth year studying Mandarin Chinese. Striving for excellence on & off the court, Coleman is kind and humble, not only dedicated to her academics but also supporting her younger brother.

Newport-(Bellevue)-Knights IRIS FENG – Newport Swim & Dive (SO)

Newport sophomore Iris Feng swam best times in the final heat for all of her events, stacking up points for the Knights at their District Championship meet this past weekend. She led all three of her relays to 1st-, 2nd-, and 4th-place finishes, finishing off a great postseason. She is often seen encouraging and cheering on teammates and competitors with a positive spirit. Aside from being a role model and natural leader on the pool deck, Feng is also enrolled in honors and AP classes and plays a significant role in her school’s ASB leadership team.

Newport-(Bellevue)-Knights ADELINE HECHT – Pope John Paul II Volleyball (JR)

This past Thursday, junior libero Adeline Hecht helped Pope John Paul II qualify for their first volleyball State Tournament in school history. Two days later, Hecht finished 15th overall in the Girls 1B State Cross Country Meet, helping the Eagles win the event and take home the first-place trophy. Competing in every school volleyball and cross-country competition through the season, Hecht maintains a 4.0 simple GPA and a 4.55 weighted GPA.

East-Valley-(Spokane)-Knights LOGAN HOFSTEE – East Valley Cross Country (SR)

Logan Hofstee became the back-to-back State Champion in cross country this past Saturday, November 4. For the second year in a row, she ran the fastest time of any girl in Pasco, regardless of classification. Hofstee’s efforts helped her team to a 7th place finish.

East-Valley-(Spokane)-Knights JACOB HOPKINS – Cascade Cross Country (SO)

Cascade sophomore Jacob Hopkins repeated as the State Champ in the Ambulatory Division at the State Cross Country Meet this past weekend. Serving as team captain in only his sophomore year, he’s an accomplished runner who is kind, a great student, and welcoming to all. Hopkins is an amazing young man who has slowly been coming “”out of his shell,”” not just in his personal growth but in his cross country journey. He is a leader for the Cascade program and motivates others around him to be better.

Camas-Papermakers CHASE MCGEE – Camas Football (JR)

Junior wideout Chase McGee played a crucial role in the Camas Papermakers’ Greater St. Helen’s League-clinching victory over Federal Way this past week. He had a total of 129 yards receiving on four receptions, converting two fourth-down attempts on Camas’ first drive of the game. McGee also secured a 28-yard touchdown reception, helping his team finish off a 9-1 regular season in sensational fashion.

Cashmere-Bulldogs TYLER PETERSON – Cashmere Football (SR)

Cashmere senior Tyler Peterson had an outstanding game against Newport on Friday, November 3. Peterson had 13 carries for 218 yards and tacked on a 22-yard reception, finishing the game with 240 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. His performance helped clinch a Cashmere State Playoff berth for the second straight season.

Hoquiam-Grizzlies JANE ROLOFF – Hoquiam Cross Country (SR)

This season, Hoquiam senior Jane Roloff repeated as Evergreen 1A League Champion (setting a new course record in the process), took 2nd in the District 4 1A Championships, and became the first girl in Hoquiam school history to win the WIAA 1A Girls Cross Country State Championship. Throughout the 2023 season, she also won the Seaside Three-Course Challenge, the Nike Twilight Meet, and the Tacoma Twilight Meet. Roloff, who was named the Evergreen League’s MVP in the 1A classification, also cheers for her school’s football team, takes Running Start classes, and maintains a 3.57 GPA.

Onalaska-Loggers KAIYAH SANDRIDGE – Onalaska Soccer (SO)

Onalaska sophomore Kaiyah Sandridge just scored her second hat trick against Ocosta, helping the Lady Loggers qualify for their fifth consecutive State Tournament. Sandridge has been on the varsity squad since her eighth-grade year and is presently the Lady Loggers’ leading assist maker and scorer with 15 goals on the season. She’s a 4.0 student and ASB vice-president, organizing most of the dances and assemblies at her school. She plays an integral role in organizing a Thanksgiving Food Drive and student study hall, with plans for creating and operating a Blood Drive on campus. Sandridge is a very gifted student-athlete but also very involved in her school and community.

Friday-Harbor-Wolverines ALDEN CARLI – Friday Harbor Soccer (SR)

Senior Alden Carli is a highly driven, self-motivated leader. He currently serves as team captain of the Friday Harbor Boys soccer team, where he holds a high standard for himself and his teammates. He is humble and works hard and holds many program records. He played an instrumental role in Friday Harbor’s fourth-place finish at State in 2021 and State Championship Title in 2023, carrying that success into an undefeated 2023 conference record. This season, Carli became the all-time leading scorer in Friday Harbor boys soccer history with 53 career goals. He’s been the leading scorer on his team for the past two seasons, wrapping up the fall of 2023 with 21 goals and counting. Off the field, Carli is a stellar student, maintaining a 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Toledo-Riverhawks LYNDZIE FILLA – Toledo Volleyball (SR)

Senior Lyndzie Filla is a strong leader on and off the court for the Toledo Riverhawks Volleyball team. She has more than 500 career digs over the past two years, serving as her team’s libero. In a match last week, she had a game high 40 digs and went a perfect 24-for-24 on serves. She works hard to keep her team’s spirits up, constantly talking with and reassuring her teammates. Her compassion and love of the game can be seen on and off the court. She also maintains a 3.99 GPA and is currently in the middle of her second year of running start.

Shadle-Park-Highlanders ABBEY FLERCHINGER – Shadle Park Volleyball (SR)

Shadle Park volleyball’s middle blocker, Abbey Flerchinger, led the Highlanders to two dominant victories last week in the 2A Greater Spokane League, defeating Pullman High School and Rogers High School. She set a new personal record with 29 kills for a four-game match, totaling 39 kills with 41-percent hitting efficiency between the two matches. As a six-rotation player for Shadle Park, Flerchinger completed her standout week with 25 digs, four blocks and a serve-receive passer rating of 2.2. She’s a leader in her school, serving her classmates in a variety of ways through Leadership class and demonstrating what it means to be a true student-athlete with a cumulative GPA of 3.65.

College-Place-Hawks JIO HERRERA – College Place Cross Country (SR)

Jio Herrera is having a stellar senior season to cap off a very successful high school running career. Last weekend, he won his second straight 1A District 5 Championship race with a time of 15:57, setting a new personal record in the process.

Heritage-Christian-Academy-Eagles JAMES KANG – Heritage Christian Cross Country (SO)

The Heritage Christian Academy High School cross country program has been in existence for two years. In its first year in 2022, the team started with two boys. This year, they had five. This past Thursday, sophomore James Kang qualified for the State Championships in Pasco, placing ninth in the 1B/2B Tri-District Championship Meet. He set a massive new personal recrod with a time of 18:18. Kang is also a 4.0 student.

Eastside-Catholic-Crusaders NICOLE KOONG – Eastside Catholic Golf (SR)

Senior Nicole Koong won the Metro League Championship Golf Tournament this past week to become the back-to-back-to-back Metro League Champion. She was also selected as the Metro League Player of the Year and managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA during the fall golf season.

Highline-Pirates MARQUAWN MCCRANEY – Highline Football (SR)

Highline senior Marquawn McCraney had a five-touchdown performance in the Pirates’ conference championship game, playing over 80 snaps at both corner and receiver. McCraney is a leader on his team, which became the back-to-back-to-back winner of the KingCo 2A League this past week for the first time in school history. Marquawn has received several offers from Division 1 NCAA football scholarship offers and his academics are a strong part of those offers. McCraney and the rest of the seniors have played a tremendous role in restoring community pride in the Highline area and within the halls of Highline High School.

Naches-Valley-Rangers BROOKE MILES – Naches Valley Cross Country (SR)

Naches Valley senior Brooke Miles won the SCAC District Cross Country meet by 36 seconds and led her team to a District Championship. She ran an 18:29 5k, which was a PR by 21 seconds.

Riverside-Christian-Crusaders RENEE POMMER – Riverside Christian Volleyball (FR)

Riverside Christian’s Renee Pommer is only a freshman, but she’s put up 70 solo blocks this year, all while maintaining a 90% serve rating and crushing her school academics with a 4.0 GPA. She is humble and kind to all and displays tremendous talent on the court. It’s a privilege to watch her play.

Chiawana-Riverhawks ADRIANA RODRIGUEZ – Chiawana Softball (SR)

Senior Captain and League MVP Adriana Rodriguez led the Chiawana Riverhawks’ slowpitch softball team to their third consecutive WIAA 4A Championship. Rodriguez batted a perfect 1.000 throughout the Tournament, finishing the weekend with a 15-for-15 stat line and a Grand Slam, not to mention an outfield assist from center field to home plate.

Snohomish-Panthers CADE STRICKLAND – Snohomish Tennis (SR)

Snohomish senior Cade Strickland went undefeated in 2023, winning all 21 of his matches. He capped off the fall by winning the WESCO North League Championship and the District 1 Championship. Strickland’s undefeated season and postseason success included playing three previous State qualifiers. In the District Championship match, he lost the first set — only his second all year — before coming back to win the next 2 sets 6-3, 6-2. The senior is an incredibly tough competitor and talented tennis player.

Jackson-Timberwolves COLE TRUANT – Jackson Football (JR)

Cole Truant, a junior at Jackson High School, had four touchdowns this past week, including two passing scores, a rushing touchdown, and a 60-yard pick-six in the Timberwolves’ 46-39 victory over Redmond. He also had 93 receiving yards and kicked four extra points.

Waterville-Mansfield-Shockers ARMANDO BALTAZAR – Waterville-Mansfield Football (SR)

Senior Armando Baltazar ran for 283 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries with a long of 52 yards in Waterville-Mansfield’s win over Moses Lake Christian-Covenant Christian on Friday night. He averaged 12.86 yards per carry on offense, adding three solo tackles and an assist on defense. Contributing in all three phases of the game, Baltazar also had a 45-yard punt return and executed a successful onside kick to give the Shockers another possession.”

W.-F.-West-Bearcats JUSTIN CHUNG – W.F. West Tennis (SR)

Senior Justin Chung has been a vital part of the W.F. West tennis program since he was a freshman, helping his team maintain its 32-match win streak. A four-year varsity letterer and current team captain, Chung is looking to return to the State Tournament for the third time in his career. After an injury forced him to miss the postseason in 2022, Chung proceeded to dominate his league in 2023, taking first place at sub-districts to remain undefeated on the season and earn the top seed at districts. He’s a 4.0 GPA student, ranking first in his class, and is also in his second year of running start. He was added to the Centralia College President’s List for academic excellence and was also a 2022-2023 College Board Scholar for Excellence in Academic Achievement. Chung’s kindness and willingness to help others is recognized by coaches, opponents, and teammates alike. A natural leader, he showcases how a true athlete should behave through his integrity, compassion, and love for the sport.

Tenino-Beavers DAVID DALLAIRE – Tenino Golf (SR)

Tenino senior David Dallaire finished second in his district golf tournament last week, shooting an even 72. Through windy and rainy conditions, Dallaire secured Tenino Boys Golf’s first ever state berth. He’s shot consistently all season as a leader for his team.

Muckleshoot-Tribal-Kings CHELLYNA LESTER – Muckleshoot Tribal Volleyball (SR)

Senior middle blocker Chellyna Lester stepped up in a huge way last week, as Muckleshoot Tribal fought to win two of their three matches. Lester has improved tremendously this season, becoming more of an offensive threat. She recorded 11 combined kills this past week with an average hitting percentage of 37.5. She also stood out with eight aces and two blocks.

Enumclaw-Hornets ALEXANDRA LEVESH – Enumclaw Swim & Dive (SO)

Enumclaw sophomore Alexandra Levesh swam district qualifying times in the 500 free and 100 back last Tuesday. On Thursday, she earned two more state qualifying marks, punching her ticket in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. She earned first place in each of these four individual events and also took first with her teammates in all four of the relays in which she swam throughout the week.

Goldendale-Timberwolves TARYN RISING – Goldendale Volleyball (SR)

Goldendale senior Taryn Rising has served as volleyball team captain for two years and continues to grow in her leadership abilities. Last week, she surpassed the 850 career kills mark, putting up 12 kills against Mabton before leading her team with 23 kills, 18 digs, three aces and 17 perfect passes to beat ZIllah. Rising also maintains a 3.8 GPA as a running start student.

Bonney-Lake-Panthers KOHEN SAUER – Bonney Lake Golf (JR)

Bonney Lake junior Kohen Sauer shot two even par rounds of 72 in the Pierce County League (PCL) Championship this past week at the Lake Spanaway golf course. He won the individual tournament by nine shots over his nearest competitor and led the Panthers to a League Title, finishing off an undefeated team season. Sauer was the MVP during the regular season, wrapping up the fall of 2023 with the most points in all of the PCL for 3A. He has been a leader of the team, serving as a great overall role model to all the younger players on the team as well.

Bonney-Lake-Panthers CAMDEN SCHMIDT – Kamiakin Football (SR)

Kamiakin senior running back Camden Schmidt rushed for 275 yards and two touchdowns this past Friday against Richland, averaging 10 yards per carry. Schmidt, who also plays on defense and special teams, helped lead the Braves to victory over the Bombers.

Summit-Atlas RAFI VAZQUEZ – Summit Atlas Soccer (SR)

Summit Atlas senior Rafi Vazquez put on an amazing performance against Rainier Christian last week, scoring three goals and tacking on an assist in his team’s 5-1 win. Vazquez’s impact shows not only in his stats on the field, but also in his leadership as a captain and leader for the younger guys.

Cascade-Christian-Cougars JENICA WALING – Cascade Christian Volleyball (SO)

Sophomore Jenica Walling compiled a statistical triple-double in back-to-back matches for Cascade Christian volleyball last week. Against Bellevue Christian, she put up 14 kills,18 assists, and 10 digs, following up her performance with a 13/11/11 slash line the very next day against Life Christian. Waling is the team captain and a full rotation player, demonstrating remarkable ability at all six positions on the court. She possesses an outstanding vertical leap, quickness, speed, and athleticism, propelling her to a current season statline of 113 kills, 229 assists, 121 digs, and 53 aces.

 

University-Titans ABBY WATKINS – University Slowpitch Softball (SR)

Abby Watkins, University High School slowpitch senior, is a leader for her team in countless ways. She is 3.20 student who prioritizes the academic component of her high school career. Her softball stats are equally impressive. With a .724 batting average, eight doubles, six triples, and six home runs, Watkins has led the Titan slowpitch softball team to three consecutive Greater Spokane League Titles, District 8 Championships, and State Tournament appearances. In last Friday’s District Championship game, Watkins went 4-for-4 with three home runs, six RBIs, and an incredible backhand play at shortstop to end the game. She is a reflection what hard work can do for a student-athlete.

Davis-Pirates KAILEY WILLSEY – Davis Volleyball (JR)

Kailey Willsey is an outstanding leader on and off the court for the Davis High School volleyball team. She led her team to victory with 36 kills, 16 perfect passes, 21 digs, and two blocks against the West Valley Rams last week, giving the Pirates their first win against the Rams in 20 years. She also had 18 kills against Eastmont, 22 kills and 17 digs against Moses Lake, and 10 kills against Wenatchee throughout the week. Willsey is an inspiration to many, and her entire community is eagerly watching to see how the rest of the season turns out for her and her team. 

Bear-Creek-Grizzlies MAX BIEBER – The Bear Creek School Golf (JR)

Junior Max Bieber, The Bear Creek School’s #2 golfer for most of the 2023 season, shot one under par on the Bear Creek Country Club’s challenging round of 35, earning medalist honors and leading the Grizzlies to their season-best team score and a win against Overlake. He has contributed to each of his school’s six wins this season. Off the course, Bieber volunteers with the Young Men’s Service League to help his community.

Connell-Eagles KENNEDY HAILEY – Connell Volleyball (JR)

Connell High School’s junior outside hitter, Kennedy Hailey, had another amazing week, leading the Eagles to two more wins and an 11-2 season record. She contributed 38 kills, 27 assists and 27 digs on the week, bringing her season kills total to 220. She has also stepped up to help her team by setting from the back row, where she’s contributed an impressive 154 assists. She also leads her team with 50 service aces on the season. As impressive as Hailey is on the court with her natural leadership, she’s also a member of her school’s ASB executive team and an honor student, taking college-level classes.

Kalama-Chinooks BRIDGETTE HOLLIFIELD – Kalama Soccer (JR)

Bridgette Hollifield had five goals and three assists in Kalama’s two wins this past week. The junior forward added two goals and an assist against Ocosta, following it up with a hat trick and two assists against Onalaska to help Kalama remain undefeated in 2023. In total, Hollifield has 18 goals and 17 assists on the season, while also maintaining a 3.98 GPA in the classroom.

Franklin-Pierce-Cardinals ERIK KRAMAREVSKIY – Franklin Pierce Cross Country (JR)

Erik Kramarevskiy is a third-year runner on the Franklin Pierce cross country team. He set the Franklin Pierce Junior Class 5K Record on Saturday, October 7th, with a time of 16:27. He’s improved his time by over four minutes across his career and, in 2023, ranks third in the SPSL 2A League. A dedicated Running Start student in pursuit of his AA, Kramarevskiy is a model in leadership, determination, and hard work.

Hazen-Highlanders MOLLY MCCORRISTON – Hazen Swim & Dive (SO)

Hazen sophomore Molly McCorriston works hard both in and out of the pool to achieve exemplary swim times. For her efforts, she has earned State qualifying times in the 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and 50 Freestyle, alongside district qualifying times in the 500 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Butterfly, and 200 Individual Medley. A natural leader, she’s always cheerful and willing to assist and teach her teammates. She’s an impressive swimmer who has shown an aptitude for taking on challenges and quickly reaching her goals.

Friday-Harbor-Wolverines WHILEY MCCUTCHEON – Friday Harbor Football (JR)

In this past Friday night’s 44-6 league victory over La Conner, Friday Harbor junior Whiley McCutcheon threw two touchdowns, ran for a touchdown, returned two punts for touchdowns, and converted a two-point conversion with his legs, accounting for 32 of the Wolverines’ 44 points. On defense, McCutcheon had seven tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and an interception to round out one of the best all-around performances in school history.

Renton-RedHawks RILEY MCDOWELL – Renton Soccer (SR)

Senior Riley McDowell is a stand-out center defender for the Renton soccer team. Last week, she scored from 40 yards out on a free kick and assisted two additional goals. On the season, she has scored four goals and assisted on six more from her center back position. Defensively, she prevents at least five one-on-one shots against her team’s keeper each match, keeping the Redhawks alive in many of their games. McDowell is a complete student-athlete, maintaining a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA in the classroom.

Mountain-View-Mighty-Thunder GRADY MILLAR – Mountain View Golf (JR)

Grady Millar just concluded his junior regular season for the Mountain View golf team, finishing the fall of 2023 at a combined 20 under par. This past week, he won his third straight 3A GSHL District Title, shooting seven under par over two rounds at Heron Lakes and leading Mountain View to a team title by a record-setting margin of 141 strokes.

Moses-Lake-Mavericks ISSABELLE PARRISH – Moses Lake Swim & Dive (SR)

Last week, senior Issabelle Parrish swam three State qualifying times at the Mukilteo Invite and led Moses Lake’s 200 and 400 free relay teams to two more State qualifying times. In doing so, she set school records in both the 100 and 200 free, earning first and second place respectively in each of those events. Parrish also achored her 400 free relay team to a win, helping them record the fastest 4A time in the state to this point in the season. An excellent student, Parrish is also currently completing her AA at Big Bend Community College, epitomizing the concept of student-athlete.

Eastmont-Wildcats GUNNAR PETERSON – Eastmont Football (SR)

In a huge game against Skyline last Friday night, Eastmont senior Gunnar Peterson ran for 190 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries, leading the Wildcats to a decisive 21-3 victory. Described by coaches as the “drumbeat of the offense,” Peterson has already become his school’s all-time leader in career rushing yards.

Granite-Falls-Tigers ALEXA REGLA – Granite Falls Cheerleading (SR)

A cheerleader in her junior year at Granite Falls High School, Alexa Regla is known for her perseverance and dedication to her team. She’s always willing to try new skills, demonstrating adaptability in overcoming various changes throughout the year. She started off her cheer career as a base and quickly worked hard to progress to a flyer. She pushes herself to succeed, and when she falls, she gets right back up to try again. Regla has grown as an athlete and individual in her community, establishing herself as a role model and leader amongst her peers. She always seeks advice and feedback on how she can improve her skills and become the best version of herself as a cheerleader for her team and a mentor for her peers.

Wishkah-Valley-Loggers AIDEN WIEDENMANN – Wishkah Valley Football (JR)

Wishkah Valley junior Aiden Wiedenmann has become a leader on and off the field this year, drawing the attention of his coaches, teachers and administrators. He has taken fellow students under his wing, encouraging them to work hard in school and inspiring them improve their self-esteem through kindness and generosity. He also sets an example through his good grades in the classroom. In Wishkah Valley’s football game last weekend, Wiedenmann ran the ball for 231 yards and four touchdowns, adding another score on a reception. He also made an impact on defense, recording three sacks.

University-Prep JACK ANGELONE – University Prep Tennis (SR)

Senior Jack Angelone led his team to a 5-0 team win over their arch-rivals, The Bush School. University Prep won all five courts in a battle for the League Championship against the number two team in the league. Angelone and his partner Brandon Liu defeated the two-time State Champion doubles team from 2021 and 2022 from Bush. Angelone was not only able to lead the team, but was able to keep his young partner focused and motivated to to have the tenacity and vigor to play well against such a talented team of competitors. He helped ensure that his team won the league title, and with the individual win with his partner, likely earned top seed for the District Tournament.

Shelton-Highclimbers LILY BENNETT – Shelton Cross Country (SR)

Lily Bennett, senior captain of the Shelton High School cross country team, suffered a significant lower leg injury this past June. Unable to participate in any high-impact activities, Bennett was unable to run during the summer. But she didn’t let that did not stop her from preparing for her final cross country season, as she transferred her training regiment to the elliptical. At the end of July, heading into August, she got cleared to run again — only to face another injury less than two weeks later, once again prohibiting her from running. When cross country season began at the end of August, she was still not able to run at practice. After continuous cross training, Bennett got the clear to run again at the beginning of September. In her first race back, at the 2nd Fall Classic Invitational at Pacific Lutheran Univiersity’s disc golf park, she finished in an official time of 20:26, setting a new personal record by almost 40 seconds. Throughout her injury and setbacks, Bennett worked hard to improve and overcome adversity. She is now ready to contribute for her team throughout the rest of the season.

Shelton-Highclimbers SIENNA CHENG-LUCEY – Stadium Swimming & Diving (SR)

Stadium High School senior Sienna Cheng-Lucey remains undefeated in every race she’s competed in this season, both individually and as a member of a relay team. Already a State Qualifier in the 50 free and 100 back, Cheng-Lucey also helped her team qualify for the 200 IM relay. So far in 2023, she’s broken the Stadium High School 100 backstroke record by 4 seconds, maintains a 3.88 GPA, and plans to attend Fresno State University next fall on a D1 swim scholarship.

Liberty-Christian-Patriots CALISTA DAVIS – Liberty Christian Volleyball (JR)

In three matches this week, junior Calista Davis has accomplished both a triple-double and a quadruple-double. In Liberty Christian’s match against Irrigon in Oregon, Davis accumulated 14 kills,16 assists, and 11 digs, to go with three aces and a block. In the second of two matches, this time against DeSales, Davis recorded the quadruple-double, doling out 10 aces, 17 kills, 18 assists, and 18 digs.

Glacier-Peak-Grizzlies ADDISON FARMAN – Glacier Peak Swimming & Diving (JR)

Addison Farman’s last week of diving was truly tremendous. The 2022 State runner-up in 11-dive produced incredible performances at both of Glacier Peak’s swim & dive duel meets this past week, notching her first district-qualifying dive. Last week, Farman threw the best 6-dive score in team history (267.40), leading a powerful diving group to multiple event wins against three-straight opponents, preserving Glacier Peak’s unbeaten record in 2023 dual meets. In her first District Dive Meet, she broke the program’s 11-dive record, scoring 413.85 to qualify for both Districts and the 2023 State Championship. Her efforts were both eye-opening and a sign of bigger things to come.

Highland-Scots RACHAEL KELLER – Highland Soccer (SR)

This past week, Highland’s senior striker, Rachael Keller, had to step up in a big way, netting eight of her team’s 13 total goals and providing an assist to help the Scotties remain unbeaten. Each time she takes to the pitch, she plays as if it is her last game. Her vision, tenacity, and desire to go at goal makes her a threat on the field and is a big reason why the Scotties are having such an outstanding season. Beyond the pitch, Keller is a stellar student, maintaining an accumulative 3.97 GPA.

Highland-Scots DAMARI KING – Rainier Beach Football (SO)

Rainier Beach High School sophomore Damari “MarMar” King had a dominant all-around performance in Friday’s game against Bishop Blanchet. He ran for two touchdowns and snagged two interceptions, adding three tackles for a loss and one sack, leading the Vikings to a 26-11 victory.

Rainier-Mountaineers JAKE MELDRUM – Rainier Football (JR)

Rainier High School junior Jake Meldrum had an unbelievable night through the air this past week, completing 17 of 21 passes for 543 yards and eight touchdowns, highlighted by four touchdowns of 50 yards or longer! He also spread the ball out, as three Rainier wide receivers had over 100 yards on the night. Meldrum also added 40 yards and another touchdown on the ground.

Bethel-Bison ZAYDRIUS RAINEY-SALE – Bethel Football (JR)

Zaydrius Rainey-Sale had a huge defensive performance in Bethel’s victory against Olympia. The junior had 15 tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss, and a 70-yard fumble return for a touchdown, adding a touchdown on offense for good measure. His effort and attitude led the Bison throughout the game.

La-Center-Wildcats BILLIE ROSS – La Center Volleyball (JR)

Junior Billie Ross is an exceptional leader on and off the court. Last week, she helped the Wildcats of La Center remain undefeated (19-0), beating two league opponents and winning the annual R.A. Long High School Lumberjill invite. Ross led her team with 80 kills, 12 blocks, 56 digs, and 101 successful service receptions, eclipsing 500 career kills and 400 career digs along the way. She’s also active in student government, having recently presented to the La Center town council, and plays an integral role in coordinating La Center’s homecoming activities. Ross’ leadership and tremendous work ethic set the tone for poise, calmness, and positive energy for her team, school, and community.

Mary-Walker-Chargers JEREMIAH SODERBERG – Mary Walker Football (SR)

In a touch road game against a great team, Mary Walker senior Jeremiah Soderberg fully embraced the meaning of ‘no-quit’ as a player. Making defenders miss on offense, setting blocks for his teammates, and making plays on defense, Soderberg racked up an amazing stat line on both sides of the ball, finishing with 13 catches, four receiving touchdowns, one kick return touchdown, and 487 all-purpose yards. On defense, he racked up 16 total tackles, two sacks, and three more tackles for losses. He scored 30 of his team’s 38 points to finish off an incredible effort.

Sammamish-Redhawks TY WEBSTER – Sammamish Football (SR)

Sammamish senior running back Ty Webster continued his prolific season last week against Lindbergh High School. He led his squad to a win on homecoming night with 267 yards rushing, four touchdowns, and two two-point conversions on 37 carries. Webster currently sits as the state’s leading rusher in 2023 with 1409 yards and 14 touchdowns after six games. He is also in the top 50 in the nation in rushing yards (total and per game).

Puyallup-Vikings KYSON DOUGLAS – Puyallup Football (JR)

Kyson Douglas is a spirited offensive leader of Puyallup High School football. As a captain, he huddles the entire team pre-game for motivation. Against crosstown rival Rogers High School on September 29, Douglas carried the ball nine times for 175 yards and four touchdowns, hauling in two receptions for 52 yards. He also carries a 4.3 GPA, balancing advanced placement classes with his role as an athlete.

Shorewood OTTO ERHART – Shorewood Cross Country (JR)

Shorewood cross country’s Otto Erhart placed sixth in the 3A/4A race at the Twilight Invitational on September 30, breaking a 15-year-old school record in the process. He ran a 15:46.7 5k, placing him in the current top 10 in the 3A classification. Erhart is a leader on his team and in his school, where he serves as the ASB Treasurer, participates on the drumline, and performs outstandingly in the classroom.

Almira-Coulee-Hartline-Warriors NATALIE EVERS – Almira-Coulee/Hartline Volleyball (SR)

Natalie Evers helped Almira-Coulee/Hartline volleyball rattle off three wins last week against tough competition, taking down league opponents Wilbur-Creston and Mary Walker, as well as 2B non-league opponent Lake Roosevelt. Evers contributed 10 blocks and 47 kills, finishing the week with a 32.7% hitting percentage. Her reliability and execution at the net has been huge for the Warriors this year, and she once again showed it this week when her team needed it most.

Shadle-Park-Highlanders KADEN HOOPER – Shadle Park Football (JR)

In a game against a highly rated Rogers (Spokane) football team, Shadle Park junior Kaden Hooper willed his team out of a 22-0 hole to win the game. Hooper, a dual-threat quarterback, threw for 135 yards and three touchdown passes. He added two touchdowns and 130 yards on 26 carries. Hooper’s final throw of the game was a fourth-down touchdown in overtime to tie it up before a game-winning point-after attempt.

Wapato-Wolves KOBE JOHNSON – Wapato Volleyball (FR)

Wapato’s standout setter, freshman JaKobe (Kobe) Johnson, led her volleyball team to two league wins this week. She put up a triple-double in a win against LaSalle with 19 digs, 22 assists and 13 kills, to go with two single blocks. Johnson earns recognition after every single match from either opposing coaches or varsity officials for her outstanding play. She is a fierce lead-by-example competitor and currently a straight-A student.

Columbia-River-Rapids MACEY MCCOY – Columbia River Volleyball (SR)

In her role as setter and co-captain, Columbia River senior Macey McCoy has led her volleyball team to a 12-0 season record without dropping a set in league, non-league or tournament play. This season, McCoy has stepped up her game to match the talented hitters on her team. She is equipped with a quick tempo, accurate dumps, big blocks, and sheer athleticism. Despite rarely playing through a full match due to her team’s success, she has racked up 243 assists in just nine matches. McCoy averages 27 assists per match and about 11 per set.

Cedar-Park-Christian-Eagles ISAAC MONTANES – Cedar Park Christian Cross Country (JR)

Cedar Park Christian junior Isaac Montanes had a huge personal record on Saturday at the Nike Twilight Invitational, dropping more than a minute from his previous personal record to take 11th place in the boys varsity event. Montanes shattered an 11-year-old 5k school record, clocking in at under 16 minutes for the first time in school history. His 15:55.10 mark helped pull his teammates along for huge PRs of their own.

Sound-Christian-Lions COOPER REINMUTH – Sound Christian Academy Football (JR)

Cooper Reinmuth is asserting himself as one of the top defensive players in the state for 1B 8-man Football. He leads the Sound Christian Academy Football Team with 45 tackles in just five games, averaging nine per game and ranking him fifth in Washington in total tackles, according to MaxPreps. In Sound Christian’s last game against the Winlock Cardinals, the junior had 20 total tackles, 12 of them solo. He also maintains a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and leads his team as a captain.

Coupeville-Wolves LANDON ROBERTS – Coupeville Cross Country (JR)

As a junior, Coupeville cross country’s Landon Roberts has continuously improved his race times with each competition, showcasing his commitment to self-improvement and his team’s success. Beyond his athletic achievements, Landon also excels academically. His ability to balance his studies with his athletic pursuits serves as an inspiration to his peers. Furthermore, as the team captain, Landon leads by example. He consistently goes above and beyond, always willing to pitch in and support his teammates in any way he can. One of Landon’s most commendable qualities is his unwavering dedication to his sport. He is often the last to leave practice, ensuring that he maximizes his training and helps motivate his fellow athletes. Landon always maintains a cheerful and positive attitude, uplifting his team’s spirits and establishing a deep sense of camaraderie.

Ocosta-Wildcats BRISTOL TOWLE – Ocosta Soccer (FR)

This past week, freshman Bristol Towle scored 13 goals to help improve the Ocosta girls soccer team’s season record to 6-3. She now has 25 goals and five assists on the season, with five game-winning goals — including three last week. She also currently has straight A’s in her classes.

Kennedy-Catholic-Lancers HAILEY WEILER – Kennedy Catholic Swimming & Diving (SO)

Sophomore Hailey Weiler went four-for-four in her individual swims last week, qualifying for the 4A State Tournament in the 500 Free, 100 Fly, 200 IM and 50 free, where she also set a new Kennedy Catholic school record. In four meets this year, she has managed to qualify for seven individual events. In the classroom, Weiler holds an impressive 4.0 GPA in Honors and AP classes. In addition to her qualifying times, she is often seen encouraging teammates and competitors with a loud, positive spirit.

Bonney-Lake-Panthers LATHAM WEST – Bonney Lake Cross Country (SO)

Bonney Lake sophomore Latham West won the John Payne Invitational on Saturday, September 30, with a 5k mark of 17:45, one of the fastest times in the history of the meet. Coaches call her one of the most consistently hard-working runners they’ve ever worked with. West is also an outstanding 4.0 student taking three AP classes as a sophomore.

R.-A.-Long-Lumberjacks  ALICE ANDERSON – R.A. Long Soccer (JR)

Junior captain Alice Anderson had six goals and seven assists over three matches in week two, contributing to 13 of R.A. Long’s 15 goals, including an Olimpico corner kick and a penalty kick. Her footwork, vision, and work rate combine to make her an extremely threatening player in the attacking half.  

Mead-Panthers  JAYCEE COFFIELD – Mead Slowpitch (SO)

Sophomore outfielder Jaycee Coffield continues to contribute colossal offensive efforts, guiding the Panthers of Mead High School to an undefeated 3-0 record last week. She had 10 hits in 12 at bats with a double, two triples, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored. In Friday’s 19-8 win over Gonzaga Prep, she homered three times and drove in seven runs.

Rogers-(Puyallup)-Rams  JUNIOR DREESON – Rogers Football (SR)

Rogers High School senior standout kicker Junior Dreeson sent a kickoff approximately 78 yards out of the end zone during the Rams’ game against Bethel on Friday, September 23. This past summer in Naples, Florida, Dreeson earned the title of 2023 FBU Top Gun Kickoff Champion. He’s a 4.5-star kicker on the verge of earning his fifth star, according to Chris Sailer Kicking.

Rainier-Christian-Mustangs  CHASE FRANZEN – Rainier Christian Soccer (SR)

During Rainier High School’s two matches this past week, senior Chase Franzen lead the team with three goals and an assist while playing every minute of both matches. Not only did he lead the offense, he also contributed defensively as the center back for half of each match. Outside of team activities, Franzen sets up workout sessions to get his teammates together to further enhance their skills.

Wenatchee-Panthers  KYLAH MADRIAGA – Wenatchee Cross Country (JR)

Junior cross country runner Kylah Madriaga works hard every single day in practice, and her improvement has really shown this season. After competing as Wenatchee’s top junior varsity runner last year, she’s now the varsity team’s top-ranked finisher. Her hard work has resulted in massive personal-records, as she’s seen her 5k time drop from 21:16 to 18:52.5 in a little less than a year. She comes to practice every day with a smile on her face, ready to work hard. Madriaga is now ranked #1 in her district and league for girls varsity cross country, a huge accomplishment and testament to her persaverence and growth as an athlete and teammate.

 JT MARSH – Cedarcrest Football (SR)

Cedarcrest senior wideout JT Marsh finished last week’s win over Shorewood with nine receptions for 186 yards and two touchdowns. He totaled 274 all-purpose yards, including his second punt return for a touchdown in as many weeks. So far in the 2023 season, despite facing frequent double-coverages and even the occasional triple-coverage, he leads the state in receptions (31) and receiving yards (645) for all 11-man offensive units. Marsh maintains a team-first mentality, displaying gratitude to his quarterback and offensive line first and foremost throughout his success on the field.

Quilcene-Rangers  ANNA MUNN – Quilcene Volleyball (JR)

Quilcene junior Anna Munn has led her team to an impressive 6-2 record to begin the season, providing major contributions both offensively and defensively. She is first on her team in digs per set and third in kills per set. An asset on both sides of the ball, Munn transitioned from her role as libero last season into a dynamite outside hitter in 2023.

Lakeside-(Nine-Mile-Falls)-Eagles  HIRO PATTERSON – Lakeside Football (SR)

In a league rivalry battle between two top-10 teams, Hiro Patterson established himself as game hero. The senior’s total domination on both sides of the ball helped Lakeside overcome a deficit and take down their league foe. Patterson rushed 16 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns, adding four catches for 111 yards and another score to help his team defeat their rivals and remain undefeated.

Cashmere-Bulldogs  MACIE SMART – Cashmere Volleyball (FR)

Freshman Macie Smart was a key factor in Cashmere’s first-place finish in the Quincy Invitational this past week, propelling her team past sixth-ranked Connell in the Championship match. Primarily playing middle blocker, Smart’s defensive consistency has earned her a 2.21 serve-receive rating. She ended the week with 50 digs and 52 kills, all while maintaining a 2.47 service rating and a 95.5% success rate on serves. As a freshman, Smart has already volunteered for her community’s dress clothes drive, kids camp, and a plethora of fundraisers. She is loved by her teammates and has been a difference-maker all year long.

Raymond-South-Bend-Ravens  AUSTIN SNODGRASS – Raymond-South Bend Football (SR)

Raymond-South Bend’s senior quarterback Austin Snodgrass played a jaw-droppingly impressive game of football on Friday night against Adna. Offensively, Snodgrass ran rampant for 137 yards and three touchdowns, also throwing for 97 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, he added 10 tackles and a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown, playing a critical role in the Ravens’ 62-36 victory. Off the field, as a running start student at Grays Harbor College, Snodgrass plans to graduate high school with his AA.

Davenport-Gorillas  GLENNA SOLIDAY – Davenport Soccer (SO)

Davenport sophomore Glenna Soliday had a big week for the Gorilla soccer team. In just a game and a half, she scored four goals and two assists, including three goals in an important game against league rival St. George’s, where she scored the game-winning goal on a header in double-overtime.

Auburn-Riverside-Ravens  XIN YI YANG – Auburn Riverside Tennis (FR)

Auburn Riverside freshman Jeremy Yang is off to an amazing start to his first high school tennis season. He is undefeated individually in league play (7-0) and holds a 9-1 record overall as the top singles player at his school. Currently Auburn Riverside is 10-0 overall in the NPSL and Yang has been a huge reason for that success. This freshman is on fire and is growing into a big role for Auburn Riverside tennis.

Cascade  BRAYDEN ANDERSON – Cascade Cross Country (SR)

Brayden Anderson ran a 16:08 5k at the Wenatchee Invitational last weekend, the fastest 1A time this season so far and a new Cascade High School record. Even more remarkable, Anderson’s race set a new personal record by over two minutes. He worked incredibly hard over the summer, and his hard work shows. 

Thomas  AIDEN BAO – Thomas Jefferson Golf (JR)

Junior Aiden Bao was the medalist in Thomas Jefferson’s varsity golf match against Kennedy Catholic this past week. He shot an even par 36 and had 18 stableford points to help his team secure the 60-45 team win. His performance set a new career low score in his high school career.

Tenino  BROOKELYNN BRATTON – Tenino Volleyball (SR)

Last week in a matchup with The Bush School, senior Brookelynn Bratton put down 16 Kills, dished out four Assists, laid out for 10 digs, and served at a 93.7% clip that included two Aces. She is Tenino volleyball’s second-year team captain, leading by example both on and off the court. 

Liberty  HUNTER CARTER – Liberty Football (JR)

Hunter Carter, a junior at Liberty High School in Spangle, propelled the Lancers to a win Friday night against the Colfax Bulldogs with a game-winning fourth-down sack. Carter busted through the line with less than a minute left on the clock and took down the Colfax quarterback in the backfield to secure the Lancers’ 15-14 victory. Carter has been an explosive defensive tackle and a great center this year for the Lancers.

Concrete  HAYLEY DANIELS – Concrete Volleyball (SR)

Hayley Daniels is a senior captain and setter for the Concrete Lady Lions Volleyball team. In the first week of the season, Daniels has gone 105-112 (94%) from the service line with 25 aces. She had a serve streak of 52 and currently holds the school record with a streak of 94 serves without a fault, dating back to last season. Daniels is coming off of back-to-back ACL surgeries, but she was determined to make it back for her senior volleyball season. She is an exceptional student-athlete and a leader in the school, as well as in her community.

Mount  WILLIAM FIKE – Mount Rainier Tennis (JR)

William Fike, a junior tennis player for Mount Rainier High School, has compiled a record of 5 wins and zero losses thus far in the 2023 season, with match victories against Auburn Riverside (6-1, 6-0), Auburn Mountainview (6-1, 6-1), Tahoma (6-1, 6-0), Decatur (6-0, 6-1), and Kennedy Catholic. In school, Fike carries a full International Baccalaureate (IB) course load into his junior year. On his tennis team, he’s known for giving his teammates advice on form and strategy.

Walla  CLARABELLE HALL – Walla Walla Slowpitch Softball (SR)

Walla Walla senior Clarabelle Hall had memorable performances in both games of a doubleheader against Grandview this past week. Defensively, she played a lights-out first base, assisting in several double plays. Offensively, Hall racked up two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs, including a game-winning home run that she launched over the fence. She’s also co-captain of the Blue Devils’s varsity squad, using her strong leadership skills to inspire the younger players on the team.

Prosser  SOLEIL HOEFER – Prosser Soccer (JR)

Soleil Hoefer, Prosser High School junior, scored five goals and assisted on two more during the Mustangs’ two wins last week. She scored two goals and had one assist against Cascade in a 4-0 non-conference win, and she scored three goals and added another assist in a 6-0 CWAC conference victory over Ellensburg. Hoefer has been a driving force throughout the Mustangs’ current three-game win streak, propelling her team to a 4-1 overall win-loss record during the early part of the season.

Issaquah  TRUDY INAGAWA – Issaquah Swim & Dive (JR)

Junior diver Trudy Inagawa dazzled for the Eagles of Issaquah High School in their season-opening meet against the Newport Knights. When it was all said and done, Inagawa stood atop the podium with 219.6 points, 61 points ahead of the second-place diver. On the pool deck, she’s a natural leader of her teammates, as they look to her for guidance and support. Inagawa is also enrolled in and attends Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences, where she maintains a 3.89 unweighted GPA.

Wellpinit  ANDREW MOYER – Wellpinit Football (JR)

Wellpinit junior Andrew Moyer had 140 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just 12 carries this past week. He tacked on two defensive touchdowns on a 15-yard interception return for a touchdown and a colossal 98-yard strip-fumble and recovery for a score.

Manson  GENESIS TORRES – Manson Volleyball (JR)

Junior libero Genesis Torres led the charge for Manson against perennial volleyball power Chelan this past week. Torres registered 38 critical digs and served 15-for-15 to help her team upset the reigning 1A State Champions. Manson also registered wins over Oroville and Tonasket, finishing the week with a perfect 3-0 record. Torres had 15 digs and went 11-for-11 serving in the victory over Tonasket.

Squalicum  ANDREW TRINH – Squalicum Tennis (JR)

As a first-year varsity athlete, Andy Trinh is the anchor player on Squalicum’s first doubles team. This past week, he was responsible for winning on the final court with a in a third-set match tiebreak (7-6 [7-5], 3-6, 6-0). Playing under pressure is Andy’s specialty — so far this season, he’s played in five tiebreaks and has won all of them. This type of clutch play in very tight matches has been critical for two other team wins as well.

Crosspoint Warriors  KAYLEE AJANOVIC – Crosspoint Soccer (FR)

Crosspoint freshman Kaylee Ajanovic scored a hat trick in her team’s season-opening victory over Bremerton High School. Ajanovic is a hard-working, tenacious athlete that any coach would love to have on their team. She is an encouraging teammate and makes everyone around her better. She’s also a great student, maintaining a 3.8 GPA.

Lind-Ritzville  BRODY BONESS – Lind-Ritzville-Sprague Football (JR)

Brody Boness, junior running back for the Broncos of Lind-Ritzville-Sprague, helped propel his team to victory over the Lancers of Liberty this past week. Boness slashed his way for 302 yards and five touchdowns on 14 carries, averaging 21.6 yards per touch.

Republic  VINCENT CARRILLO – Republic Football (SR)

Senior Vincent Carrillo led the Republic Tigers to their second consecutive win to start the season. He completed 18 of his 31 passes for 266 yards and 5 touchdown passes, carried the ball 14 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for three of the Tigers’ two-point conversions.

Brewster  XIMENA CHAVEZ – Brewster Volleyball (FR)

Brewster freshman Ximena Chavez always brings a positive attitude to practices and games. She works hard every single day and has an open mindset when it comes to learning new skills. Chavez had 3 kills in Brewster’s home opener, following that performance up with 10+ kills during the team’s trip to the Yakima Valley Sun Dome tournament. She hustles all over the court and never gives up on defense. As a freshman, she is a wonderful leader and example of a team player.

East-Jefferson  FIONA FRASER – Port Townsend Cross Country (SR)

Port Townsend senior Fiona Fraser started her cross country season off with a sizzling performance, winning the Sehome Invitational in Bellingham. Fraser won the senior girls race by 15 seconds, recording the fastest overall time of the day and beating the sophomore girls winner by one second. Her summer dedication to running has been paying off, as this was her first-ever cross country victory.

Hoquiam  ZANDER JUMP – Hoquiam Football (SR)

Senior Quarterback Zander Jump had a brilliant game playing both sides of the ball. Jump rushed for 4 touchdowns, threw another touchdown, and had an interception for a touchdown, ending up with 6 total TDs in the game. He racked up 312 yards of total offense, with 181 rushing yards and another 131 passing, while completing 10 of 15 passes. Jump has accomplished this all while fostering a 3.9 GPA.

Rogers  AARON KINSEY – Rogers (Spokane) Football (SR)

Aaron Kinsey led Rogers High School to a 34-18 victory over Grangeville this past week. On offense, Aaron went 9-for-13 passing for 197 yards and a touchdown, alongside 14 rushes for 77 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. On defense, Aaron had an interception, four tackles, and a blocked extra point. Kinsey dominated in all three phases of the game and has led the Rogers Pirates to their first 2-0 start in over 20 years.

West-Valley  NICOLE MURDOCK – West Valley (Yakima) Cross Country (SR)

Nicole Murdock won the Runners Soul XC Fest in Hermiston this weekend, moving past 4 runners in the last mile to finish off a 5K in a time of 19:58. Her performance helped the West Valley Rams of Yakima come out of the meet with a first-place finish. For four years, Murdock has been a consistent performer, steadily improving over time. She’s also an outstanding student in multiple disciplines.

Auburn-Riverside  RORY MURRY – Auburn Riverside Soccer (SR)

Auburn Riverside’s senior goalie Rory Murry has led the Ravens to a 3-0 start to the 2023 season. She had shutouts in all three games, helping her team outscore their opponents 10-0 to start the season. In three games, Murry has 32 total saves, including a penalty-kick stop against Skyview on Saturday. She now ranks second all-time in school history with 32 career shutouts.

Lakewood  MEGAN OMLID – Lakewood Volleyball (JR)

Lakewood junior Meg Omlid has generated some serious offense in the first week of season, attacking the net with 76 kills on a 49.6% hitting percentage, averaging 5.17 kills/set to go with 11 service aces. On defense, Omlid has contributed 44 digs, putting together a serve-receive passer-rating average of 2.28. She’s helped lead the team to a 2-1 overall record on the young season.

Bishop-Blanchet  VINCENT RECUPERO – Bishop Blanchet Cross Country (JR)

Bishop Blanchet junior Vincent Recupero, currently ranked 22nd in the country by DyeStat, raced to the third-fastest 2.64-mile Green Lake Intrasquad time in school history with a mark of 12:47. Recupero followed his first race with an overall victory at the 24th Annual Bellarmine Prep Invite on the two-mile course in a time of 9:59.

Richland  JOSH WOODARD – Richland Football (SR)

Senior Josh Woodard thew seven touchdown tosses this past Friday, tying Richland High School’s single-game passing touchdown record for the second time in his career. He completed 66% of his passes for 396 yards, adding another 38 yards and a touchdown on the ground. In total, Woodard finished his night with 434 yards, accounting for 81% of his team’s 535 yards. A star student-athlete in every capacity, Woodard carries a 3.97 cumulative GPA.
