His teaching also extended to piano, music theory, and the history of popular music, reaching countless students and inspiring future musicians.

Bruce’s impact extended well beyond the classroom. He served the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) as Secretary/Treasurer, President-Elect, President, and Past President, and also held leadership roles with the Washington unit of the International Association of Jazz Educators.

His contributions have been widely recognized. Throughout his career, Bruce has distinguished himself as both a mentor and leader. He has consistently used music as a vehicle for student growth, leaving a powerful and lasting impact on music education across the Pacific Northwest.

Greg began his 30-year career with the Seattle School District as the Garfield High School Girls Track and Field Head Coach in 1972.

His Garfield teams went on to win eight State Championships, including five consecutive titles from 1981–85, and consistently contended for league and state honors. The 1983 Garfield 800m relay team still holds the 4A State Meet record (1:39.12). While under his leadership, Garfield athletes also set State Meet records in the 400m relay (47.05), 400m dash (54.34), and 100m hurdles (13.71). Over the course of his career, Greg coached 38 individual State Champions.
