The WIAA, in partnership with Referee Magazine, has released the official rules manual for the inaugural season of Girls Flag Football.

The manual combines NFHS Rules with WIAA  Exceptions to create a single, comprehensive resource for game play and rule interpretation.

On August 17, 2025, the WIAA Executive Board approved the WIAA Girls Flag Football Exceptions document. WIAA schools will utilize the NFHS Flag Football playing rules, as well as the WIAA Rules Exceptions sheet. Both documents are available using the links below. 

As of August 1, 2025, Girls Flag Football is an officially sanctioned WIAA Sport, and is subject to all WIAA rules and regulations. Please reference the WIAA Handbook for any questions surrounding WIAA Girls Flag Football.

On April 21st, 2025 the WIAA Representative Assembly officially sanctioned Girls Flag Football, the first WIAA sport to be added since Girls Bowling in 1999. Initial details about the amendment as passed can be found below. Please check back to this page for updates.
