CURT CORVIN
ATHLETE
CLASS OF 2012 INDUCTEE
Lakes HS Cross Country, Track & Field
Curt Corvin established himself as one of the most accomplished distance runners in Washington high school history. He placed at the State Cross Country and Track & Field Championships every year of his prep career, quickly building a reputation as one of the nation’s best. As a sophomore, he finished third at the State Cross Country Championships, then captured back-to-back state titles as a junior and senior. On the track, he earned third in the 3200 meters as a sophomore, second as a junior, and capped his senior season with a state title in the event. That same year, he placed third in the 1600 meters in a race that featured the three fastest times in the nation. Between cross country and track, Corvin earned four All-American honors and posted a 1600m mark that still ranks among the top 10 in state history.
Corvin went on to compete at the University of Washington, where he again achieved All-American status in both track and cross country. He set the Huskies’ 10,000-meter record, which stood for 13 years, and remains ranked fourth on the program’s all-time list in the event.
After his competitive career, Corvin dedicated himself to coaching. He began as a volunteer at Lakes High School in the late 1990s before becoming a paid assistant, eventually taking over as head coach of the girls cross country program. He also served as the distance coach for both the boys and girls track teams, shaping the next generation of runners. Outside of coaching, he continued his competitive spirit by claiming four victories in Tacoma’s prestigious Sound to Narrows 12K and was later inducted into the Tacoma Athletic Commission Hall of Fame.
Corvin’s career was defined by excellence, consistency, and a lifelong commitment to distance running. His impact extended beyond his personal achievements, as he became a mentor and role model for countless student-athletes who followed in his footsteps.
