CLASS OF 2011 INDUCTEE
Ephrata HS Baseball, Basketball
Dave Johnson, a graduate of Shadle Park High School, continued his education at Whitworth College, where he played baseball for the Pirates while earning a degree in history and political science. Following college, he accepted a teaching position at Ephrata High School, where he taught history and devoted 36 years to coaching as head baseball coach and assistant basketball coach. In addition, Johnson co-owned and operated T.B.I. Baseball Camps for 32 years with business partner Marty O’Brien, providing a four-week, live-in experience for young athletes ages 8–18.
Over his coaching career, Johnson became the winningest baseball coach in the state of Washington with 687 victories and ranks second in total state championships with eight. He guided the Ephrata Tigers to 28 state tournament appearances, outscoring opponents 489–239. His teams captured 25 league titles, 20 district titles, 16 regional titles, and earned 16 state placements during his 36-year tenure.
Johnson was widely respected for his work ethic, passion, and devotion to his community. Michele Webb, Athletic Director at Ephrata High School, remarked, “Coach Johnson has taught many student-athletes what the words dedication, hard work, respect, integrity, and discipline mean.” In recognition of his contributions, Johnson was inducted into the Washington State Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988, and the baseball stadium at Ephrata High School was named in his honor alongside fellow coach Marty O’Brien.
