Tondi Redden von Oelhoffen, a graduate of Kamiakin High School, was a three-sport standout who left a lasting mark on girls’ athletics in Washington. In volleyball, she earned 2nd Team Big Nine Conference honors as a freshman and 1st Team recognition for her remaining three seasons. She served as team captain during her junior and senior years, was named team MVP, and earned All-State honors in her final season.

On the basketball court, Tondi set six school records by the time she graduated. She was the Big Nine Scoring Champion as a junior and senior, a 1st Team Big Nine Conference selection all four years, and earned 1st Team State Tournament honors while leading her team in scoring during her senior season. She was named USA Today All-American Honorable Mention in 1984 and a full All-American in 1985, and she was also selected to the Converse All-American Team. During her senior year, she led her team to a state championship while earning tournament MVP honors.

Tondi also excelled in track and field. She became the National Pentathlon Champion in 1981, set the Washington State track record in the heptathlon in 1982, and held the school record in the shot put. By the end of her high school career, she became the first Kamiakin athlete to earn 12 varsity letters. She was recognized as Female Athlete of the Year by both the Big Nine Conference and the Tri-Cities sportswriters and broadcasters in 1984-85.

Following high school, Tondi earned a scholarship to the University of Hawaii, where she was a four-year starter on the basketball team. During the 1989-90 season, she ranked second in the nation in steals and earned honorable mention in the Big West Conference.

Tondi Redden von Oelhoffen was a trailblazer who helped elevate girls’ and women’s sports in Washington. She was later inducted into the Central Washington Sports Hall of Fame.
