2026 SMART CHOICES SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS FEATURE DOHERTY & GARCIA
RENTON, WA (April 23, 2026) – The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), Gesa Credit Union, and the Dairy Farmers of Washington announced Catherine Doherty of Hermiston High School and Abel Garcia of Royal High School as the $5,000 recipients of the 14th annual Smart Choices Scholarship, Thursday.Â
In addition to the two $5,000 scholarships, Gesa Credit Union and the Dairy Farmers of Washington teamed up to provide eight $1,000 scholarships:
Brooke Berens – Crosspoint Christian
Greta Leonard – Tahoma
Brayden Meyer – Okanogan
Lucas Mortensen – West Valley (Spokane)
Kaiyah Sandridge – Onalaska
Carson Siadal – Meridian
Cienna Smith – Cle Elum-Roslyn
Lucinda Weaver – College Place
“The students recognized through the Smart Choices Scholarship program represent the very best of what education-based athletics can offer,” Executive Director Mick Hoffman said. “This year’s recipients have demonstrated immense resilience, strong character, and dedication to their communities. We’re excited to see how they carry these qualities toward their future goals.”
