Margaret “Maggie” Trimble was a pioneer in women’s scholastic athletics in the state of Washington, shaping opportunities for female athletes from 1951 through 1982. Born in Blaine, Maggie began her career at a time when girls’ sports were limited, yet she worked tirelessly to develop programs that would leave a lasting impact.
At Auburn High School, Maggie established the school’s first women’s programs in tennis and gymnastics. She also coached tennis, swimming, cheerleading, and boys track, while teaching physical education, health, and biology. Through her PE classes, clubs, camps, and invitational events, Maggie created platforms that nurtured athletic skills, sportsmanship, and leadership for countless students.
Her contributions to athletics extended beyond coaching. Maggie served as president of the Washington High School Gymnastics Association in 1968 and was named Washington State Gymnastics Coach of the Year in 1981. She became a charter member of the Washington State Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1986 and was inducted into the Washington State Gymnastics Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999.
Maggie Trimble’s career reflected a lifelong commitment to expanding opportunities for young women in sports, leaving a legacy of dedication, innovation, and excellence in Washington’s scholastic athletics.
