MARCO MALICH
COACH
CLASS OF 2013 INDUCTEE
Peninsula HS Baseball
Marco Malich was a respected coach, teacher, and mentor whose dedication shaped generations of student-athletes at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor, Washington. A 1959 graduate of Peninsula High School, he was a multi-sport athlete, earning letters in football, basketball, and baseball. Following high school, Malich played semi-professional baseball in Alaska and later competed with the Heidleberg Slow Pitch Team, participating in seven national tournaments.
Malich began his coaching career as a volunteer with the Peninsula Athletic Association for eight years and Peninsula Youth Football for five years. He coached baseball at Goodman Middle School from 1976 to 1979 before joining Peninsula High School as an assistant football coach (1979–2001) and head varsity baseball coach (1980–2012). During his baseball coaching tenure, his teams won 14 league championships and recorded 439 victories. In 2006, he was named Washington State High School Coach of the Year, the same year his Seahawks appeared in the 3A State Baseball Championship at Safeco Field.
Known for his integrity, compassion, and servant leadership, Malich went above and beyond to support his student-athletes, providing shoes, equipment, or participation fees for those in need. He treated his players like his own children, fostering not only athletic skill but also character, leadership, and a sense of community. Through his mentorship and guidance, Malich became more than just a coach—he became a lasting influence and role model in the Peninsula High School community.
