KEN JONES
OFFICIAL
CLASS OF 2010 INDUCTEE
Ken Jones dedicated more than 37 years to officiating basketball in Washington, working at every level of both the boys and girls game. Over the course of his career, he officiated in at least eight state tournaments, including three state championship games, earning respect for his consistency, professionalism, and steady leadership on the court.
Officiating was only one part of his service to the game. Jones spent 21 years in Pierce County government as an urban planner before running his own business as a land use consultant for nearly three decades. Alongside his professional career, he devoted countless hours to strengthening the officiating community. For 21 years, he served as Executive Secretary of the Western Washington Basketball Officials Association, and for 12 years he led the Washington Officials Association (WOA) as Executive Board President.
Jones played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of officiating in the state. He was instrumental in the development of the WOA constitution, was a leader during the separation of the WOA and WIAA, and contributed extensively through his service on the Agreement Review Committee. His commitment was recognized in 2005 when he received the West Central District III Meritorious Service Award.
“Ken exemplifies what it means to be a member of the Washington Officials Association,” said WOA Commissioner Todd Stordahl—a sentiment shared by the many colleagues and officials who benefitted from his guidance and example.
