Sid Otton retired as the winningest high school football coach in Washington state history, compiling a career record of 394–131 with 27 State playoff appearances, 25 League Championships, and six WIAA State Championships over the course of 49 years.
He began his coaching career in 1967 at Coupeville High School, followed by four successful seasons at Colfax High School, before taking over at Tumwater High School in 1974—a program he would lead for the next 43 years.
Otton’s contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into the Weber State University Hall of Fame (1993), Washington State Football Coaches Hall of Fame (1996), Idaho Hall of Fame (2009), Pacific Northwest Hall of Fame (2010), and Tumwater High School Hall of Fame (2010). He also received the American Football Coaches Association’s National Power of Influence Award (2006) and was named Seattle Seahawks High School Coach of the Year twice (2010, 2016).
Beyond the wins, Otton is celebrated for his lasting impact on student-athletes, families, and the broader football community. His commitment to leadership, mentorship, and the growth of high school athletics has left a legacy that continues to shape the lives of players and coaches across the state.
