CHRIS HENDERSON
ATHLETE
CLASS OF 2009 INDUCTEE
Cascade (Everett) HS Soccer
Chris Henderson’s soccer journey began at Cascade High School in Everett, where he quickly established himself as one of the state’s all-time greats. His teams captured four conference championships and earned a third-place finish at state during his freshman year. Henderson went on to play in three consecutive state championship games, winning titles in 1987 and 1989. A two-time Parade High School All-American, he capped his prep career by being named the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year as a senior.
Henderson’s success continued at the collegiate, professional, and international levels. At UCLA, he was a key contributor to the 1990 NCAA Division I National Championship team and earned Collegiate All-American honors. That same year, at just 19 years old, he was selected to represent the United States at the World Cup in Italy. From 1990 to 2001, Henderson earned 79 caps with the U.S. National Team, placing him among the top 25 in all-time appearances, and he also competed in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Professionally, Henderson played overseas in Germany and Norway before returning to the United States in 1996 as one of the original players in Major League Soccer (MLS). Over 11 seasons, he became one of the league’s most durable and consistent performers, appearing in 317 matches—ranking second all-time in games played at the time of his retirement—and earning three MLS All-Star selections.
Chris Henderson’s career stands as a testament to excellence at every level of play. From dominating in Washington high school soccer to competing on the world stage, he leaves a lasting legacy as one of the state’s greatest soccer players.
